Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English Writer-director Kevin Smith's fifth and final installment of his New Jersey Chronicles (which began in 1994 with the breakout, low-budget comedy CLERKS) is a chance for scene-stealing, foulmouthed stoner Jay (Jason Mewes) and his taciturn sidekick/"hetero life mate" Silent Bob (Smith) to carry their own movie. When comic store mogul Brodie (Jason Lee, reprising his MALLRATS role) informs Jay and Silent Bob that a movie featuring their comic book alter egos, Bluntman and Chronic, is about to be made, the duo demands a cut from the comic's creator, Holden (Ben Affleck, in his CHASING AMY role). Holden explains that his ex-partner, Banky (Lee again) has sold them out, and shows them some angry Internet posts from Bluntman and Chronic fans. Fearing for their reputations, Jay and Silent Bob embark on a cross-country odyssey to Hollywood to stop the film. En route, they run afoul of a Charlie's Angels-type jewelry thief ring--one of whom, Justice (Shannon Elizabeth) takes a liking to Jay--an orangutan, a Federal Wildlife Marshall (Will Ferrell), and Miramax studio security. Smith's fond farewell to his intertwined Jersey characters is a lovingly crude, broad comedy rife with celebrity cameos, slapstick movie spoofs, and clever jabs at Hollywood. There aren't many movies from recent years that I would put on my "funniest" list, but this is one of them! I tend to stick to the classics from the likes of Richard Pryor, for instance, but this is one of the funniest ever. And then they throw Chris Rock into the mix! It's comedy overload!
The commentary is hilarious, and there are many extra things on the DVD. A "must own"!

JAY AND SILENT BOB IS PROBABLY THE FUNNIEST MOVIE THAT I HAVE SEEN IN THE LAST 4 YEARS. VAN WILDER AND THE PIE MOVIES WERE PRETTY GOOD BUT THEY WERE THE ONLY ONES TO COME FAIRLY CLOSE. KEVIN SMITH PUT TOGETHER A GREAT MOVIE FULL OF LAUGHS. A CLEVER AND BRILLIANT FAST PACED PIECE OF WORK THAT HAD ME ROLLING. IT NEVER GETS OLD HOW EVER MANY TIMES I WATCH IT. ANYONE WHO BAD MOUTHS THIS MOVIE NEEDS TO HAVE THERE HEAD EXAMINED. THEY NEED TO WAKE UP BECAUSE THIS MOVIE IS HILARIOUS AND JUST GOOD FUN. JASON MEWES WAS JUST TOO FUNNY IN THIS MOVIE. SINCE I'M HERE WRITING THIS COMMENT LET ME JUST THANK KEVIN SMITH FOR MAKING THIS MOVIE. THE CAMEOS BY THE STARS AND THE DREAM SEQUENCES IN THE MOVIE WERE PERFECTLY TIMED. I THOUGHT MORRIS DAY AND THE TIME SINGING AT THE END WAS CLASSIC AND JUST PLAIN FUN. MARK HAMILL AND THE HOT CHICS THAT WERE THIEVES WERE GREAT. EVEN THE SOUNDTRACK IS AWESOME. THIS MOVIE HAD IT ALL. IF YOU ARE A TRUE FAN OF KEVIN SMITH AND HIS MOVIES AND COMEDY I THINK YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE TOO.

Having seen all of Kevin Smith's movies, I was in on the joke, and this was the funniest movie. Laugh out loud funny.
I think you have to have a basic understanding of the first 4 movies to know why Ben Affleck and Jason Lee are playing more than one role...

This movie was the best. I have watched Smith's films in the past, but didn't really like them. I rented Jay And Silent Bob, and what was I thinking. It turned me into the biggest Kevin Smith fan ever. I love all of his work. Have autographed copies of all of his movies now. My cousin never saw any of his films, but thought Jay and Bob was one of the funniest films he ever saw. Great film for anyone(except kids).
