DRIVE was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year and Best Male Country Vocal Performance..

The obvious talking point on Alan Jackson's hugely successful DRIVE is "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)," a song written in response to the September 11 attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. Its refreshing lack of gung-ho patriotism and focus on small details ("Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'/And turn on I Love Lucy reruns") is a hallmark of Jackson's songwriting, which is adept at finding a telling detail to highlight a bigger truth.

Elsewhere, in the best country tradition, "The Sounds" is a familiar tale of heartbreak freshly told, while "Work in Progress" is a catalog of a redneck doofus's unwitting transgressions that'll find an echo in many male listeners. "Designated Drinker," a duet with George Strait, is another in a seemingly inexhaustible line of country drinking songs. Appropriately for an album named DRIVE, two automobile-related songs bookend the set. The title track is about Jackson's first boat and car, while "First Love," in the tradition of NRBQ's "Little Floater" and Neil Young's "Long May You Run," is also about a much-loved vehicle that should be food for thought for women everywhere.

"Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Country Song.

Q (2/02, p.110) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...With 20 country #1s and 50 Country Music Awards nominations, Jackson knows better than to rock the boat an ddelivers yet another set of unremarkable but harmless country rock tapalongs..."

4 stars great for the baby boomers!
Alan Jackson is able to create a feeling of "going back in time" throughout this CD. The songs are thought-producing and poignant, as well as fun. Of course, his "Where were you" tune is a favorite, but I also love "Drive" and "Once in a Lifetime Love". Try it......you'll like it!

His song, Where were you, brings reality to heart. If you want a song that touches you and makes you believe all over again this is the CD to get.

5 stars AJ does it again!
I bought this CD because of his poignant tribute to 9/11, "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?". It ends up that each and every song is a keeper, some touching our emotions with meaningful lyrics and plenty of toe-tappers. You won't use the "search" button to skip over any songs on this one!

5 stars GOD BLESSES THE USA
God blesses the USA through the music, and with this CD we are all blessed. It takes you back in your mind to your own growing up years and it also reminds you that life is fleeting and we have to take the time to remember that fact as we live each day to the fullest. We have a great country, opportunities to serve our country and community and family, and we should work to be sure we do our best step by step and day by day. Thank you to everyone who worked to bring this CD to us to enjoy as we live, work and play and raise our kids in the USA.

5 stars Great all around album!
I enjoyed every song. That's pretty amazing. Usually there are only a few good ones when I buy a CD, but this was just an all around great album!

"This One's For The Girls" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. The sound of mainstream contemporary country hits you square in the face with no apologies on MARTINA. As on her earlier, massively successful albums, Nashville belter Martina McBride (you thought maybe the title referred to the tennis player?) continues in the style that garnered her a huge audience in the second half of the 1990s. The album is full of gently anthemic pop/country songs sporting simple lyrics full of positive messages. "She's a Butterfly," for example, sounds like it could have been the alternate theme for DAWSON'S CREEK, and the forthright "City of Love" seems tailor-made for an urban-renewal campaign commercial. Not that McBride doesn't speak directly to her audience--it's hard to get more direct than a shout-out like "this is for all you girls about 25" (from "This One's for the Girls," it changes to 42 in a later verse). Presumably, her message of standing tall against adversity is received loud and clear by those for whom it is intended. John Mock (whistle); John Hobbs (piano, hammond B-3 organ); Tony Harrell (synthesizer); Glen Worf (bass); Lonnie Wilson, Matt Chamberlain (drums); David Huff (percussion, programming); Bryan Sutton, Vince Gill (background vocals). While the U.K.'s Bobby Kray came to reggae by way of the Clash and the Police, he obviously followed the genre all the way to Jamaica and became well aware of lovers rock and smooth reggae in the process. Even with the bold title Tales from a Skinny White Boy, his debut album often goes safe and finds the singer becoming a Caribbean crooner with slow grooving backing tracks. During these cuts, his delivery is somewhere between Dennis Brown and Kevin Lyttle but his falsetto sounds just like Justin Timberlake. The blend comes off as more influenced by a cruise ship excursion than of a punky reggae party, but when Kray isn't offering his heart in this faceless manner, ...
