Bozeman album
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" And yet, 12 studio albums and 150-plus songs later -- more than any of the other three have managed -- that's exactly what's come to pass. The group's second release for Roadrunner, whose title apparently refers to "coming ...

$7.99 Although Nazareth had already broken into the big time in England with their 1973 release RAZAMANAZ, the band had yet to crack the U.S. market. Their stateside break came two years later in the form of 1975's HAIR OF THE DOG. By keeping to their high voltage rock formula the Scots band finally won ...

Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered ...

| | Three Ring Circle CD (2006)
Bozeman album
$13.39 Prior to the formation of the trio Three Ring Circle, its members, Dobro player Rob Ickes, mandolinist and fiddle player Andy Leftwich, and bassist Dave Pomeroy, had each built up an impressive résumé. In addition to four albums as a leader, Ickes was a member of the Rarely Herd and Blue Highway, and had played on sessions for dozens of artists including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Alison Krauss, Chris LeDoux, Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire, the Oak Ridge Boys, Kenny Rogers, SHeDAISY, and Steve Wariner; Leftwich's credits included his solo album Ride and work with the Chieftains, Lynn Anderson, and Ricky Skaggs; and Pomeroy, the most experienced of the three, had recorded with a too-numerous-to-mention who's who of prominent country and folk artists dating back 30 years. In addition to the versatility required of session players, all three have shown a propensity for bringing in other styles, especially pop and jazz, to mix with their bluegrass roots. Ickes, for example, has played on many of those Pickin' On albums of bluegrass arrangements of the work of pop stars, and has put Herbie Hancock and Stevie Winwood songs on his solo albums. That pattern of progressive bluegrass is followed on Three Ring Circle's self-titled debut, which features the trio's renditions of tunes by Jeff Beck and Stevie Wonder in addition to originals. The playing is impeccable, of course, with lightning runs and exciting interplay. This is an album for lovers of bluegrass who are willing to have it incorporate other styles and do so with authority. ~ William Ruhlmann
ROB ICKES, ANDY LEFTWICH, and DAVE POMEROY aka “THREE RING CIRCLE†Acclaimed instrumentalists Rob Ickes, Andy Leftwich, and Dave Pomeroy have joined together to pursue a common goal - creating innovative and memorable music with the unique combination of dobro, mandolin, and upright bass. They are individually known as world class players who are expanding the vocabulary and boundaries of their chosen instruments, and the trio format allows them unprecedented creative freedom and stylistic versatility. They have just completed their debut album â€Three Ring Circleâ€, which includes originals written by all three members and creative reworkings of classic tunes. Originally from the San Fransisco area, Rob Ickes has become known as one of the finest dobro players on the planet since moving to Nashville in 1992. He is the leader of the Grammy nominated bluegrass band Blue Highway, and has been named the IBMA's "Dobro Player Of The Year" seven times. He has recorded 4 groundbreaking solo albums for Rounder Records. His session work includes work with Patty Loveless, Earl Scruggs, Alison Krauss, and the Grammy winning "Great Dobro Sessions". He and Dave are featured artists on the critically acclaimed CD " Nashville Acoustic Sessions" with Raul Malo and Pat Flynn. Andy Leftwich is only 24 years old, ...

| | Brother Kite Waiting For The Time To Be Right CD (2006)
Bozeman music CDs
$13.25 It isn't hard to understand why some folks believe that shoegazer/dream pop and power pop are incompatible. Power pop, for all its poppiness, thrives on rockin' exuberance, while shoegazer bands (even with distorted guitars) are known for being dreamy, spacy, hazy, and surreal (sort of like the alternative pop/rock equivalent of a David Lynch film). But the Cardigans demonstrated that a band could be relevant to both alternative power pop and the shoegazer/dream pop aesthetic, and Lush maintained some dream pop overtones when they gave themselves a major power pop makeover in 1995 with their Lovelife album and the U.K. smash "Ladykillers." So power pop can, in fact, be part of the recipe for shoegazers, which is what happens on the Brother Kite's Waiting for the Time to Be Right. The more uptempo parts of this 2006 release drift into power pop territory, although the ...
