Black & White Affair music CDs
$13.79 Boyd Raeburn was not much of a musician and, although he played bass sax in his mid-1940's orchestra, he never soloed and could barely be heard in the ensembles. However the jazz world owes him a debt of gratitude because he not only allowed but encouraged such advanced arrangers as Eddie Finckel, Johnny Richards and particularly George Handy to let their imaginations run wild and not be concerned about selling records or pleasing dancers. Ironically Raeburn's earlier bands were quite conservative but by 1944 he started changing directions. At a time when the swing era was ending and jazz orchestras were breaking up, his big band was soon playing some of the most adventurous music around although it would involve quite a struggle to survive (which he lost by the end of the 1940's). This Hep CD features 22 selections from 1945-46 that were performed on radio broadcasts. The Boyd Raeburn Orchestra is captured at the height of its powers with such soloists as trumpeter Ray Linn, trombonist Ollie ...

| | Shaun Friedman Space/Time Continuum CD (2008)
Black & White Affair album
$15.19 Shaun has been producing music since a very young age. He was only four years old when he started to play a Casio Keyboard and experiment with the different beats and sounds. He would also sample his voice and other sounds through the Keyboard, and was instantly hooked. His childhood was surrounded by all types of music. His father played Jazz Piano and created jingles for advertising in their home studio, and Shaun “soaked it all up.” One of Shaun’s greatest influences at the time was Michael Jackson, and he would act out Thriller with his brother and sister. Everything he heard at the time shaped the music he makes today. These influences include Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Debbie Gibson, James Taylor, Miami Sound Machine, and Bonnie Rait. Towards the late 1980s and early 1990s, Shaun was heavily influenced by his older brother’s music which included Public Enemy, Black Sheep, Ice Cube, M.C. Breed, and bands like Guns and Roses. In short, Shaun appreciated and learned from everything he heard.Around the age of 15, Shaun began recording instrumental beats. He strived to make beats with an original edge, and usually layered piano, orchestra, harpsichords, sitar, pizzicato, synths and bass over hip hop drums. For Shaun, any instrument is possible as the theme of a beat, and when inspiration hits, new and exciting instrumentals are formed. Shaun has grown tremendously over the years as a producer. He started in his dads studio with most ...
