| | Garth Brooks Ultimate Hits CDs (2007) With DVD
Back To Back Hits CD music
$15.95 For a period in the early 1990s, Garth Brooks was not only the biggest star in country music, he was one of the biggest stars in music, period. An unassuming Oklahoman who fused the blue-collar ethic of new traditionalist country with an unapologetic pop side that drew on his love of 1970s rockers like Kiss and Billy Joel, Garth Brooks fundamentally changed the sound of mainstream country music in much the same way that Hank Williams had in the 1940s and Patsy Cline had in the 1950s. THE ULTIMATE HITS, a three-disc collection that is the first comprehensive career ...

| | Billy Currington Little Bit Of Everything CD (2008)
Back To Back Hits songs
$11.59 True to its title, the third album by Nashville's Billy Currington throws some rock and R&B influences into his contemporary country music. A rocking blend of crunchy guitars, in-your-face drums, and more subtle traditional country instrumentation like fiddles and pedal steel characterizes the album's brash but not noisy or harsh sound. Highlights include the idyllic opener, "Swimmin' In Sunshine," a sure-thing evocation of a gorgeous ...

| | Chris Young Man I Want To Be CD (2009)
Back To Back Hits CD music
$9.09 Since Chris Young appeared on the "Nashville Star" television program in 2006, he's been on a roll. After signing with RCA he had a hit with "Drinkin' Me Lonely," his first single from his self-titled debut recording. Likewise, the two singles that have preceded the release of THE MAN I WANT TO BE in 2009 haven't done too badly either, getting plenty of play on radio. While Chris Young's sound is firmly in the contemporary country camp, it's also a lot more hardcore honkytonk than it is the refried '70s rock clichés that plague the genre. Part of that is due to his big booming baritone voice that rings as clear as a bell in this mix. (Think George Strait-meets-Josh Turner.) The other part of his appeal is the use of a relatively small group of musicians, giving the disc a more organic sound than a lot of what's out there. Young also has a lot of respect for tradition: "Rose in Paradise" is drenched in fiddles, mandolins, and acoustic guitars. It's a country-styled blues and features no less than Willie Nelson as a duet partner. The final track on the set is a moving cover of Tony Joe White's "Rainy Night in Georgia." Its beauty lies in its arrangement; his reading of this classic ballad is utterly tender and believable, accentuanted by a sparse, stripped-down production. And rather than stick with his trademark baritone, he stretches his vocal range--including a mean falsetto--to the brink and still pulls it all off.

| | Pete Seeger Abiyoyo (And Other Songs And Stories) CD (1967)
Back To Back Hits music CDs
$13.45 Digitally remastered by Randy Kling (Disc Mastering, Nashville, Tennessee).
Subtitled "and Other Songs for Children," ABIYOYO is one of many collections of Pete Seeger's folk songs for children. But from the colorful artwork to its kid-friendly short running length--seven brief songs, perfect for childlike attention spans--it's probably the only one that feels like an album you'd actually play for or give to a child. The songs, from the ballad-like story song "Sam the Whaler" to the downright silly "Where Are My Pajamas?," are ...

Back To Back Hits album
$9.99 On THE GENIE, Bob James features his great compositions that were used as incidental and theme music for the long-running television series, TAXI. James is joined here by a tremendous cast of musicians. In addition to "Angela," TAXI's mellow and very recognizable main theme and also a highlight of James' TOUCHDOWN, James and his comrades jam on several great tracks.
Since so many of the tunes were only used as snippets on the television series, only ...
