Rita Lee - Acustico film
$10.29 Dreams Come True is an all-star session by vocalists Marcia Ball, Lou Ann Barton and Angela Strehli. The three women sing with a band led by Dr. John and the session features guest appearances by such luminaries as David "Fathead" Newman and Jimmie Vaughan. The music is straight out of the Texas school of roadhouse R&B and blues boogie but it's delivered with a gritty, hearfelt edge, particularly on the part of the three vocalists. Dreams Come ...

Rita Lee - Acustico DVD
$14.89 Never one to tread the expected path, Lucinda Williams followed her big breakthrough album, CAR WHEELS ON A GRAVEL ROAD, with a pair of low-key records full of sad, quiet, fragile songs (interrupted by the occasional barn-burner). LIVE @ THE FILLMORE concentrates heavily on those latter two releases, unleashing all the intense, burning emotions that lay at their core, making plain the inherent frisson lurking below the surface of such ostensibly laconic tunes as "Lonely Girls" and "Righteously." Meanwhile, songs that already had plenty of bite in their studio versions are pumped up to an even more electrifying, visceral level (a bold, crunching "Changed the Locks;" the roaring, bluesy "Joy"). The debt Williams and her band owe to Neil Young & Crazy Horse is illuminated on "Are You Down," and, elsewhere, a spoken intro finds the singer laying bare her affection for ZZ Top. Clearly, revelations of all kinds abound on this double-disc concert document.

Rita Lee - Acustico movie DVD
$8.79 Alone, John Mayall is a blues musician to be reckoned with--an impressive force of longing emotion. But on one very special night in 1982, his musical power was heightened tenfold by a bevy of great performers who accompanied him in concert. On a warm summer stage in the Garden State, Mayall is joined by five legends of the blues: Albert King, Buddy Guy, Etta James, Junior Wells, and Sippie Wallace. In addition, he is accompanied throughout ...
| | Heron Black Dog CD (2005)
Rita Lee - Acustico video
$16.25 The British group Heron made some rare albums in the early '70s, and continued to put out sporadic low-profile releases over the next few decades. The 15 songs on Black Dog were recorded in the late '90s, and made available on the band's website, but not released on CD until Hux picked up the material in 2005. (Other tracks recorded at the time had previously been released on the album River of Fortune.) Some of the songs were actually written (though not necessarily recorded) back in the '70s, though newer tunes were included as well. It's laid-back, undistinguished folk-rock that's closer to folk than most folk-rock is, with a definite but not overwhelming English feel. Occasionally, the harmonies recall Crosby, Stills & Nash and steer this slightly toward the '70s California folk-rock sound, though that resemblance never becomes strong enough that you'd be likely to mistake Heron for a Californian band. There's a tender, nostalgic older-and-wiser air to the songs, and while most decent sorts would be hard-put to disagree with any of the sentiments, they're not relayed in a very exciting fashion. ~ Richie Unterberger
Heron originally formed in England in 1968 and have since been described in the pages of Mojo magazine as one of the most collectable bands around. Thirty years after their original formation, Heron recorded this new album in the village of Black Dog in Devon, England. As keyboardist Steve Jones put it, "reliving our past but bringing it up to date". The band has retained its unmistakably English sound and the songs are as unique as ever; still as relevant today as they were 30 years ago. Like many of their earlier albums, Black Dog was recorded outdoors and has a unique musical style of simple, pastoral, folk-rock, with a gentle, ...
| | Bebel Gilberto Tanto Tempo CD (2000)
Rita Lee - Acustico film
$13.99 Bebel Gilberto was nominated for the 2001 Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist. TANTO TEMPO was nominated for the 2001 Latin Grammy Award for Best Musica Popular Brasileira Album.
This is a collection of remixes from the TANTO TEMPO album. Remixers include Peter Kruder, Truby Trio, Rae & Christian, King Britt.
Bebel Gilberto is the daughter of Brazilian singer/guitarist Joao Gilberto. TANTO TEMPO, her debut release, brings a contemporary sheen to classic bossa novas. Acoustic accompaniment predominates, with the addition of occasional electronica, making this collection a perfect reflection of the late-20th century two-way street between traditional Brazilian bossa nova and the American producers who covet its easy, sexy sound.
Gilberto's voice is assured and steady. As with other South American singers gaining attention in the States, such as Peru's Susana Baca, she's a model of restrained passion, her phrasing subtly and sensuously caressing her music. Gilberto sings mostly in Portuguese, but performs a few songs in English, such as the dreamy "August Day Song." "Lonely" finds her paired with Washington D.C. downtempo producers Thievery Corporation, while the classic "So Nice" is still the perfect airy, breezy hammock song. TANTO TEMPO is highly recommended for aficionados of both classic and modern Brazilian pop.
Issued the same year as Bebel Gilberto's first full-length solo album TANTO TEMPO, TANTO TEMPO REMIXES is, as the name implies, a series ...
