Peter Chandler and Dr. Lori Ridgeway, in an effort to expose a flesh-eating cult in New York City, set out on an expedition to the primitive island of Keto. The two are soon trapped in the wilderness, surrounded by a tribe of murderous cannibals and an insane scientist, Dr. Obrero. While the made doctor experiments on Chandler, Lori is captured by the tribe and made the subject of their bizarre rituals. In the tradition of the classic film, Zombi, Ian McCulloch reprises his role of a New Yorker faced with primal horror. Fabrizio De Angelis, the producer of Lucio Fulci's amazing ZOMBIE, tried to cash in on that film's success by financing this zombie/cannibal hybrid film that not only features ZOMBIE's lead actor, Ian McCulloch, but also some of its footage. The result is an often hilarious gore fest that is far less serious than Fulci's film, but whose sheer lunacy makes up for any of its shortcomings. The story follows Dr. Peter Chandler (McCulloch) and a reporter named Lori (Delli Colli) who discover a rash of cannibalism in New York. Soon the two have traced the cannibalistic activity to a remote island where they encounter a tribe of cannibals and a mad scientist who appears to be experimenting with reanimating dead corpses. The result of this work is four bloodthirsty zombies who roam the island and, along with the cannibals, wreak havoc on Lori and Dr. Peter's expedition. Zombie Holocaust Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Fun gorefest to watch! I rather enjoyed this movie when I bought it 6 years ago, especially the cannibal gore scenes! The zombies are ok, but I really expected more from them because of the title of the film.Still it's a fun movie to watch if you have the stomach for it!It's funny how the classic zombie-cannibal gorefest horror films of the 70's and 80's put todays movies to shame when it comes to special effects, back then every thing was hand-made,no CGI no BS!That's why these movies looked so real when it came to blood and gore,I would like to see one of todays hot shot directors attempt to make something like this sometime!Enjoy! HE MAKES HOUSE CALLS...... or so they say....ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST is one heck of a film. Originally known as DR. BUTCHER MD internationally. This film is exactly as the description stated. Sheer Lunacy. This film has ZOMBIE/ Zombi 2's Ian Mc Collugh in it. His role is just about exact to his role in ZOMBIE. But thats almost it when it comes to comparisons between the two films. ZOMBIE's film was a very bleak well done, well paced ZOMBIE flick. This film is just about non-stop when your not seeing a disturbing killing/ eating/ butchering/ torturing. you are seeing an equally disturbing lead-up to the killing/ eating/ butchering/ torturing. The few Zombies in this film look great. The lead up for them are tremendous. You actually can't wait for them to appear. You know they are coming but the director keeps holding them off by giving you cannibals instead (which can be just as entertaining) Then finally they appear and its more great stuff. You should also note that this film is essentially 3 films edited into one. Its got the normal scenes made specifically for DR. BUTCHER M.D. aka ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST, then it has scenes from Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE (some are cut scenes that never made the film and some are scenes that did make the film from a different angle) and then there is a few more scenes from the never released incomplete film TALES THAT WILL TEAR YOUR HEART OUT. All put together and oddly enough, it works. Great movie. enjoyable all the way through. A+ Robert C. Submitted by mayhem13 (Ocean Township , NJ USA) Was This Review Helpful? Zombies+Cannibals There aren't actually very many zombies in this movie, and they don't actually kill anyone.Anyway this is a fine gorefest, with cannibals doing the ripping and eating and whatnot, and they prove to be just as good at it as zombies generally are. The gore actually better. Partially, this is because the gore is rarely anything to fancy, mostly just severed limbs and spilled guts, and lots of it is only seen in the aftermath. But, those are the essentials of your gore film, so you don't ever want stray to far from them. There are some fun, more elaborate effects, such as a surprisingly nasty and effective eye-gouging scene, and an head mangling via outboard motor so awesome.Sadly, much of the gore is too badly lumped together, with one main cannibal assault in middle part of the film, but there's enough good stuff at other points that it doesn't matter too much.
