| | Kids Nursery Rhymes, Vol. 1 CD
Kids Nursery Rhymes, Vol. 1 is an intriguing collection of children's music standards and strange gems from a scarier past. It begins with an odd little song called "Aerophane Jelly" that may or may not be about the tasty French treat. With its female-chorus vocals and loping, slightly unsettling rhythm, the song suggests the campy, naïve genius of the Shaggs, or those deceptively twee ditties that always accompany the crazed maniacs' childhood flashbacks in 1980s slasher flicks. In fact, many of the tunes on Kids Nursery Rhymes, Vol. 1 have more in common with the bizarre antics of Deerhoof or Petra Haden's 1999 masterpiece, Imaginaryland -- artists and albums that reprocess the candyfloss and whimsy of children's albums into twisted adult lullabies. "Cockles and Mussels" opts for a harpsichord and a faux-cockney accent to portray the story of Molly Malone and her wheelbarrow, while the Oliver! outtake "Food Glorious Food" features the classic lyric: "Hot sausage and mustard/While we're in the mood/Cold jelly and custard." The song really only works as a nursery rhyme if you're a street urchin in a newsboy cap and dirty ankle boots. Things get a bit more conventional with "Fuzzy Wuzzy" and "Going to the Zoo." But a brief, music-box version of "Hot Cross Buns," performed in the round, is just a few thees and thous away from Mediaeval Baebes. By the home stretch, which is sort of a medley of five different "little" songs ("Little Miss Muffet," "Little Peter Rabbit," etc.), Kids Nursery Rhymes, Vol. 1 has proven its allegiance to the spooky side of the Brothers Grimm. While the album isn't recommended for actual children, it is a must-have for any fan of creepy clowns and cockney accents. ~ Johnny Loftus Kids Nursery Rhymes, Vol. 1 Music Kids Nursery Rhymes, Vol. 1 Songs | 1. | Aerophane Jelly |

$11.15 Catastrofiks take you on a journey through the many facets of the circus we call hip hop. From the streets, to the club, to the underground, and back to the lab, these 3 unique rappers straight from philly show their incredible abilities on this debut album; Catastrofiks "the Cirrcus". Vision, Rook, and D-Rellz combine for one of the more versatile hip hop albums in recent memory. With production from philly veteran Mike Lowe (aka Amazingrace),and guest appearances by Mr. Eon of High and Mighty, State Store of Chief Kamachi's Juju Mob, and rising RnB star Bradd, this album is sure to satisfy hip hop lovers worldwide.MORE REVIEWS:Review by YouDeeCatastrofiks - The CirrcusAkhenation Music/Philasofikal RecordsThree man crew Catastrofiks come through with their debut album 'The Cirrcus'. Reppin' Philly hip-hop in style with help from Philly veteran Mike Lowe (aka Amazingrace) handling the bulk of production.'The Cirrcus' sees Vision, Rook and D-Rellz mixing it up with solo, duo and tracks with all three members across the 18 tracks (1 skit) of the album. On this debut guest appearances were kept to a minimum with Young Phil appearing on 'Bring it Back', Mr. Eon (of The High & Mighty) on the album's standout 'Spin It', State Store on 'Bonita' and Bradd on 'Heyyo'Catastrofiks manage to hold together a solid debut while exploring different styles of rap from more commercial club-like material through to political and underground bangers. Stand outs on the album would have to be 'AOL - America On Lockdown' where the three explore political themes over a beat produced by Auspex and 'Spin It' featuring the charismatic Mr Eon over a bouncy head nodder by Mike Lowe. This is a very solid debut that leaves you wanting to hear more. The dope tracks outweigh the lesser tracks by far and there's enough variety to keep you listening. Def worth a listen.-Undadwella Review direct link- http://www.bnesfinest.net/vbull//showthread.php?t=99His (vision) rap group, the Catastrofiks, produced and independently released their debut LP which contains 19 tracks, most of which have a distinctive Philadelphia flavor. Since rap is like soul food - prepared the same but containing different ingredients - his group showcased the primary ingredients needed for a commercially successful hip hop act: the ability to flow with confidence and conviction. Their tracks, "The Conception," and "The Cirrcus" quickly and easily put them in the ring with the most potent rappers on the airwaves (or underground for that matter), but it's their most commercial track, "Comin In," that establishes them as innovators of their own "brand." It's radio friendly and would make the perfect first single. -GIAN FIERO DIRECT ...
