| | Mia Sheard Reptilian CD (2000)
Homesick James & Snooky Pryor songs
$18.99 Toronto-based singer/songwriter Mia Sheard explores deep subject matter while keeping the music hauntingly beautiful, sometimes creating a surprising contrast on upbeat tunes, on her second release, Reptilian. A bit of PJ Harvey, Joni Mitchell, and Sarah McLachlan may be heard, but Sheard makes each song her own with her stunning vocal capabilities and by pouring herself out for the listeners to relate to. Her sometimes powerful and sometimes understated vocals tell a story of where she has been and experience gained, also spinning tales of human nature. Opening track "Cover Girl" may come across as male bashing and feminist at surface level, but the lyrics are meant as a contrast between the treatment of women in Eastern and Western cultures. "Viaduct," a simply beautiful down-tempo number, makes you look to the lyrics to discover the story that lays beneath -- a suicide that Sheard witnessed at the Bloor Street viaduct in Toronto. Masking the uneasy and not-so-pleasing side of life with the well arranged, amazingly orchestrated sounds, this album might not be immediately accessible for most listeners, but the time taken to fully digest this album will not be in vain. ~ Jennifer Jones
Reptilian contains 10 impressively literate, wonderfully rendered ruminations on the dark side of mankind. [Her] songs are rarities in today's musical climate in that they actually require the listener to think... Sheard sets herself apart from hordes with a ...

Homesick James & Snooky Pryor album
$9.35 BIOBorn in San Bernardino, California but raised here in Rialto, California. I graduated from Eisenhower High school i. I come from a very well-mannered family. Yet that didn't seem to prevent me from being in the streets or getting into trouble. I got into selling "dope" and made money, but realized it actually taught me how to hustle and sell my own CD's. So with that knowledge I quit the "dope" game and instead pursued my love for music and rappin'. I started rappin' about 7 years ago with 2 of my homeboys ...
| | Johnny "Guitar" Watson Untouchable! The Classic 1959-1966 Recordings CD (2007)
Homesick James & Snooky Pryor CD music
$14.75 Like many a journeyman bluesman, Johnny "Guitar" Watson led something of an itinerant recording life during much of his career, wandering from label to label in the 1950s and 1960s with just a little chart success. Untouchable! does a great service to collectors by assembling 27 tracks from 1959-1966, many of which, surprisingly, had not only never previously come out on CD, but had never been reissued in any form. While in general these are blues/R&B crossover sides, there's more variety than one might think, and though the hopping between styles makes it a little uneven, it makes ...
| | Rhythm Pimps Identity Crisis CD (2008)
Homesick James & Snooky Pryor music CDs
$13.65 Eugene SceneThis power trio, dubbed âThe Rhythm Pimpsâ hail from Eugene, Oregon; a city known for its oddities and of course a thriving underground music scene. It was rated in the top 10 most thriving music college towns in the US by Rolling Stone. Other bands to have sprung forth out of Eugene are The Cherry Poppin\' Daddies, Floater and The Rock n Rock Soldiers to name a few. The Rhythm Pimps add another chip to the roster of rock that has sprung forth from this Hippy College town. Identity CrisisThe Rhythm Pimps are promoting their new album, âIdentity Crisisâ. The majority of the tracks were originally going to be demos, but with the help of Justin Dodge (who just produced Marv-Ellisâ new album) they were able to remix the tracks a bit more professionally, also adding a few new songs to the mix, recorded at a friendâs studio in Veneta, Oregon. The Drums for Identity Crisis were recorded in Drummer - Brian Kauffmanâs basement in Eugene. Brian nailed most of the drum tracks in one take, if not two. The guitar, bass and vocals were recorded at Anthony McCarthyâs work, after hours, when everyone had gone home for the day. âIt was usually just me and the janitor. I was working at a local company that makes educational software and DVDs for at-risk youth. I was our sound engineer so I had access to the sound booth and my boss was actually cool with it.â McCarthy admits. The tracks sat as demos for a year. âWe talked about sending them out to radio stations and record labels but I think we got as far as ordering the manila padded envelopesâ says McCarthy. The Rhythm Pimps recorded a few new tracks at âRivacyd Recordsâ and decided to put a few of those together with the demos and release them as their new album. âWe remixed the demos and that was that. Now itâs our next album and Iâm really, really proud of it. It was definitely worth the wait.ââIdentity Crisisâ is a follow up to The Rhythm Pimpsâ first D.I.Y. album âGroundscoreâ released in 2003. âGroundscoreâ was a chronicling of TRPâs diverse song-writing capabilities, incorporating everything - funk, reggae, a little swing, punk, rock and metal and surf riffs. But in the grand scheme of it, itâs all pop. âEverything we write is poppy underneath whatever skin itâs in. Thereâs no escaping it. The songs are catchy and memorable and somehow maintain a uniqueness.â\'Identity Crisis\' a little less scattered and with a new drummer, narrows in a bit more showing how The Rhythm Pimps have evolved to what their sound is for the moment; a mishmash of rock genres, keeping the funk and punk alive. TRP have ...
