| | Patsy Cline Classics CD Patsy Cline Discography of CDs
Principally recorded at Bradley Film And Recording Studios, Nashville, Tennessee between June 1, 1955 and Janurary 27, 1960.
Digitally remastered by M.C. Rather & Hollis Flatt (Custom Mastering, Nashville, Tennessee).
Patsy Cline had nothing to do with Sun Records in her lifetime, although she does share a few other similarities with that label's favorite son: both Cline and Elvis Presley began their recording careers in 1955, both became huge pop crossover successes, and, well, both recorded extensively with the Jordanaires. Eerie coincidence? You decide.
Cline actually recorded for Four Star between 1955 and 1960, and while she was already trying her hand at the smooth pop that would make her a star on Decca in the early '60s, she was still enough of a country girl on the tunes heard here to embrace cryin' steel guitars and twangy rhythm riffs on the honky-tonk and rockabilly tunes. Tunes like "Hungry For Love" hold their own with the R&B of the time, while "Walkin' After Midnight," her first hit, motors along with a honky-tonk shuffle that hits alot harder than her own remake a few years later. While Owen Bradley produced both these and Cline's later tracks, these early ones crackle with the sound of a great singer interacting with a great crew of players on some (relatively) downhome material. This collection includes recording dates and publishing information for all the tunes.

Classics album
$13.65 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled ...

Classics music CDs
$11.45 In the manner of Natalie Cole's UNFORGETTABLE, Elvis Presley's CHRISTMAS DUETS is a collection of Christmas songs that Elvis recorded throughout his career, remixed in 2008 to add new vocal parts by many of today's biggest female country stars, some of whom had not yet been born when Elvis died in 1977. Guest vocalists include Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Sara Evans, LeAnn Rimes, and Amy Grant. Other guests include Anne Murray and Olivia Newton-John, the only two vocalists here whose careers intersected with Elvis chronologically.

| | Johnny Cash American IV: The Man Comes Around CD (2002) Bonus DVD
Classics songs
$11.99 "Give My Love To Rose" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Includes a bonus DVD featuring a music video for the song "Hurt".
When the first volume of Johnny Cash's AMERICAN series appeared in 1994, it would have been difficult to predict its critical and commercial success, much less the fact that an illness-beset Cash would be turning out a powerful fourth installment of the series eight years later. Like its three predecessors, AMERICAN IV is a home-recorded, bare-bones Rick Rubin production wherein Cash tackles old classics by other writers as well as more contemporary tunes by artists from the rock world, with a smattering of his own new compositions thrown in. It's also arguably the strongest since the first volume.
Now that the novelty of hearing the Man in Black tackle tunes by the likes of Depeche Mode ("Personal Jesus") and Nine Inch Nails ("Hurt") has worn off, we can get past the gimmickry to fully appreciate the power of Cash's ...
| | John Denver Definitive All-Time Greatest Hits CDs (2004) Bonus CD
Classics album
$9.59 The title of this collection by the Jesus of 1970s soft pop makes no bones about its intentions. Fortunately, it delivers what it promises in spades. DEFINITIVE ALL-TIME GREATEST HITS chronicles the hit-packed career of John Denver without missing a trick. From his earliest, most folk-oriented material ("Leaving on a Jet Plane," a hit for Peter, Paul & Mary) to his more country-flavored compositions ("Take Me Home, Country Roads," the stomp-along "Thank God I'm a Country Boy"), we're given a full picture of Denver's abilities. Early-'80s duets with Placido Domingo ("Perhaps Love") and Emmylou Harris ("Wild Montana Skies") underscore both the far-reaching ripples Denver made in the music world and the full range of his own gifts. Such gentle, melodic ballads as "Annie's Song" and "Sunshine on My Shoulders" are the distilled essence of what made '70s AM radio tick, and will elicit instant nostalgia for the era when Denver's brand of quiet, graceful songcraft reigned supreme. ...

Classics music CDs
$11.99 This reissue of folk-blues guitarist Davey Graham's first album, from 1963, includes eight bonus cuts from later years.
Often credited with striking the match that set the 1960s British folk revival a-blazing, Scottish guitarist Davey/Davy Graham was both a phenomenal player and an important tastemaker. His solo, fingerpicked instrumentals were lively and complex enough to keep audiences dazzled for the length of a concert or album, and his love of Eastern inflections, odd tunings, and ...
| | Clint Black Spend My Time CD (2004)
Classics songs
$14.45 Clint Black burst on the country scene in 1989 as a young buck with his own slant on country, but the rock and pop influence on country music throughout the '90s sees Black looking more than ever like a traditionalist with SPEND MY TIME. Black has never really hearkened back to the days of classic honky-tonk, but the lack of overblown pop production or rocked-up arrangements here makes this album all the more welcome in a sea of country crossovers. Not that there's ...
