Shesus Loves You...Loves You Not CD (2003)
Nude on the Moon: The B-52's Anthology CD music Shesus' debut album, Loves You...Loves You Not, is one of those releases that calls for a variety of adjectives -- and those adjectives range from melodic and poppy to dissonant, abrasive, and discordant. The mostly female alternative pop/rock outfit is coming from a punky power pop aesthetic; that's the thing they have in common with '80s new wavers like the Go-Go's, the B-52's, and Blondie as well as '90s artists such as Letters to Cleo, Eve's Plum, Bif Naked, and Elastica. But Shesus is far from a carbon of those artists, even though some of them are among the Dayton, OH, band's influences. Shesus, for all their girlish and melodic poppiness, are also noisy and abrasive -- they're as poppy as the Go-Go's or No Doubt (who, arguably, picked up where Blondie left off), but they also share Lydia Lunch's and Courtney Love's appreciation of discordance. It should be noted that when the Go-Go's started out in 1978, they were a lot more raggedy than the band they had evolved into by the time they recorded their first album, Beauty and the Beat, in 1981 -- so Shesus has something in common with very early, pre-IRS Records Go-Go's as well as the smoother, more polished band they became. Much to Shesus' credit, they pull off the poppy/discordant contrast impressively well; it's a combination that makes for infectious listening on tracks like "B-Side Radio," "Confrontation," and "The More You Laugh." From original material to an inspired remake of David Bowie's "Hang on to Yourself," Loves You...Loves You Not is a very promising debut. ~ Alex Henderson

Sybersound Party Tyme Karaoke: Guy Hits, Vol. 3 CD (2006)
Nude on the Moon: The B-52's Anthology songs Unlike a lot of karaoke discs, Sybersound's Party Tyme Karaoke series gives karaoke enthusiasts the benefit of being able to choose between instrumental and vocal versions. Their releases typically begin with the instrumental versions and then repeat the program with the vocal versions of the same songs. The renditions of the songs are functional but hardly substitute for the originals. Party Tyme Karaoke: Guy Hits, Vol. 3 includes instrumental and vocal versions of Chris Brown's "Run It," the All-American Rejects' "Move Along," Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud," the Fray's "Over My Head (Cable Car)," and Nick Lachey's "What's Left of Me." ~ Andy Kellman

Cool, Blue and Lonesome: Bluegrass for the Broken-Hearted CD (2002)
Nude on the Moon: The B-52's Anthology album for sale Released close to Valentines Day, Cool, Blue and Lonesome: Bluegrass for the Broken-Hearted may be just the ticket for those surviving without red roses and heart-shaped candy boxes. After all, who wants to listen to some cheerful soul sing about their true love's kisses when their heart has been trampled on? Indeed, as soon as Larry Cordle starts singing "Lonesome Standard Time," the listener has found a bit of solace for his or her mangled self-esteem and salty tears. Doyle Lawson pours more sadness into that great big empty hole with "Mis'ry River," while the Nashville Bluegrass Band agree that there's no lower feeling than being "All Alone." From the sampling here, more men seem to have been left behind than women, which leads one to believe that Sugar Hill will eventually release a collection by women who were glad to see them go. For the occasional woman who isn't glad to be left alone and blue, Kathy Kallick and Laurie Lewis team up on "Used to Be," testifying that lonesomeness isn't completely gender related. While Cool, Blue and Lonesome is perfect for a train-wrecked relationship, the happily connected shouldn't avoid it. It a good collection of top-notch bluegrass artists, and besides, it doesn't hurt to have a first-rate, lonesome album in one's collection -- just in case. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford, Jr.

Alicia Deeny Highways CD (2001)
Nude on the Moon: The B-52's Anthology buy CD music Alicia's music is on the cutting edge of the cross-cultural Latin American explosion that is occurring in pop music today. She has charmed audiences in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. In 2000 she was nominated by the Washington Area Music Association for a Wammie Award as Latino Vocalist of the Year.
Alicia has been a performing musician since she was a child. She was first inspired to play the guitar and sing by her Puerto Rican grandfather who taught her typical music from the Caribbean island during the summers she spent there as a child. As she grew, she began to write her own music, study voice and classical guitar, and during high school and college, she started to play at colleges, coffeehouses, bars and clubs. Her songs are a musical journey through moments of American life - train tracks in Richmond, cornfields, carousels, smoky bars - and everyday life - romance, heartbreak and family relationships.
Alicia performed as a solo singer/songwriter until she began working with guitarist and producer Jay Weaver. Their collaboration has created a musical style that is a fusion of pop, rock, country, folk, jazz, and Latin music. While her style is seemingly eclectic, there are common threads that weave her music together to create a singular sound. Her lyrics, melody rich songwriting, and strong vocal presence, as well as the exciting arrangements and instrumentation of her band, give her music the backbone that allows her to move from one style to the next while remaining uniquely Alicia.
Born from her collaboration with Jay Weaver, Alicia's second CD Highways features her compositions with the broad sound of her band. Musicians Subha Das (drums), Steve Palko (bass), Jay Weaver (guitar), & Al Snyder (keyboards) bring together the collective musical influences of American and Latin Jazz, as well as pop, rock, country, and blues to the recording. Alicia and her band blend soulful singing and songwriting, skilled musicianship, and beautiful musical arrangements into a performance that inspires and wows listeners. Highways follows the 1999 release of her debut album Here With You, a reflective solo effort so characteristic of the singer/songwriter troubadour style that has made Alicia so popular.
Alicia is currently promoting her new CD and scheduling a tour with her band for the spring of 2002.

Better Chemistry 6 Foot Shorty CD (2007)
Nude on the Moon: The B-52's Anthology buy CD music Infectious. Enveloping. Irresistible. Those are just a few words to describe the Los Angeles six-piece band Better Chemistry, who have been overwhelming and conjuring with audiences since 2001 with their propulsive brew of reggae, rock, ska and funk. From small clubs to stadiums and from backyard parties to three day festivals, the band's feel great, let the good times roll approach has won them a devoted following and a career's worth of accomplishments. Their new album, 6 Foot Shorty is the next step in the band's evolution, showcasing their growth and development as songwriters, players and arrangers, while hewing to the warmth and positivity that has been the hallmark of their sound since they began.
The band's story started at the Bulldog Pub in Upland, CA at an open mike night where the band's members first met in 2001. Discovering a common group of influences (Bob Marley, Grateful Dead, The Clash, The Specials, SKA, Toots and the Maytals, Dennis Brown, Phish, String Cheese Incident), the band came together and quickly built up an impressive resume, opening for legends like B.B. King, Average White Band, Steel Pulse and reggae legend Pato Banton. Others took notice as well; Access Hollywood featured the band as part of a Super Bowl feature in 2003 and the band earned airplay on the most influential modern rock station in the country, KROQ in Los Angeles, as well as a myriad of other stations.
Now, following their first two albums (2001's Undiscovered Elements and 2005's Better Chemistry) comes 6 Foot Shorty, recorded by the band in their home studio, which introduces the band anew. Featuring the soulful lead vocals and rhythm guitar of Dave Monaco (the band's primary lyricist), Ray Green on lead guitar, Chad Junkin on keyboards, the propulsive rhythm section of Rene Casas on bass and Ed Collins on drums as well as guitar/recording supervision/ production engineer, Eric "Dr. Wood" Woodruff on the turntables/additional percussion/ background /engineering assistance the CD breaks new terrain for the band. There's the hip-hop/club influence of "6 Foot Shorty," featuring English Dance Hall great Tippa Irie and vocals from Jurassic Five member Chali 2na, which introduces new musical flavors into the Better Chemistry arsenal. Recently, the band wrote and produced "Frozen in Your Tracks" for Fox Sports Net, which aired on January 27, 2007 for the Los Angeles Kings game opener. And while the band still retains their positive and spiritual flavor, there is the a new political element, embodied in the indictment of President Bush in "How Do You Sleep?" with lyrics by "DJ Wood," a former 82nd airborne member. The unqualified good times the band once sang about are now much more hard earned - which makes the joy in the songs even more resonant.
Better Chemistry's music is about the journey of the soul, spirit and the challenges and joys of life - the pitfalls of love and relationships ("Difficult," "Who Loves You"), the threat to our environment, the simple gratitude in being alive ("Praise") and they view their music as a vehicle to bring people together to experience oneness, community and the knowledge that our similarities far outweigh our differences. The band will be taking the songs on their new album on the road for the rest of the year, bringing their national audience peace, love and soul - while giving them the music to which they can dance all night.
