This is a strong, virile action picture produced in the blood-and-guts tradition of the "Dollar" westerns. A crooked banker, a bandit and a bounty hunter known only as "the stranger" are the heroes, the plot of which revolves around a million dollars in gold stolen from a train by the bandit's gang. A gang of bandits rob a train of it's one million dollar gold shipment. Once the gang's leader makes off with the pot he becomes persued by a bounty hunter, a banker, and a lone bandit. The word gets around about a missing shipment of gold and all the blood and guts start to fly from then on as all killers, thieves, and trainrobbers play their guns. Any Gun Can Play Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Not the best Spaghetti Western but good, fun film. Starring George Hilton, Edd Byrnes, and Gilbert Roland, this is an early rip-off attempt of Leone's masterpiece "The Good,The Bad And The Ugly".
This DVD release restores the opening stylish scene previously missing in other released versions of the three bandit gunmen (dressed and riding suspiciously like Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Franco Nero) being gundown by bounty hunter George Hilton. It's for this reason that I've rated it as a 4 star instead of 3.
The rest of the film meanders through various situations until we reach a most satisfying 'feelgood' ending where the three main characters face each other in a final shoot-out.
This movie was made in 1967/8, just before the 'pessimistic' style ending became the norm of the genre. It also features a good musical score by Francesco De Masi.
A great picture and well worth the price. I would recommend this as part of any Spaghetti Western collection, but at the same time if you think you are getting Leone you are not. Nice fun though and they don't make these type of films anymore. Submitted by a reviewer (England, United Kingdom) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
