The soundtrack to Pierre Jeunet's charming, slightly surreal romantic comedy Amelie features music by Yann Tiersen. Just as the film presents an idyllic, idealized version of Paris, Tiersen's score captures the most romantic aspects of French music, complete with fluttering accordions, delicate harpsichords, mandolins, and poignant strings and pianos. Pieces like "J'y Suis Jamias Alle," "Le Moulin," "La Valse Des Monstres," and "Les Jours Tristes (Instrumental)" -- which features a toy piano -- convey the film's sweet, slightly skewed outlook perfectly, and are completely charming in their own right. Aside from the three variations on the heroine's theme, "La Valse d'Amelie," most of the score comes from Tiersen's other albums, making Amelie a fine introduction to his work as well as an appropriately winning soundtrack. ~ Heather Phares

Amelie From Montmartre Soundtrack songs
$9.39 Rush is an excellent dark blues score written by Eric Clapton (with help on the three songs) and performed by an augmented version of his band. This soundtrack album produced one big hit for Clapton with "Tears in Heaven," but it's a wonderfully intense piece of work all the way through, with some terrific guitar work from Clapton himself. Buddy Guy turns up to add lead vocals and guitar on the 11-minute version of Willie Dixon's ...

Amelie From Montmartre Soundtrack album
$11.45 Brooklyn-based experimental-rock outfit the Book of Knots layer progressive tendencies, noise, and heavy, head-banging rock on their self-titled debut. Released originally in 2004, then re-released in 2007, THE BOOK OF KNOTS is a concept album of sorts dealing with nautical themes and seafaring narratives, but the music is pure deconstructive indie rock. Strains of Slint and Sonic Youth can be heard throughout, but the Book of Knots' warped, arty aesthetic has its own special twist. The music isn't likely to appeal to your average mainstream rock fan, but those thirsty for alternative sounds will find much to appreciate.
Several years ago two Boston-based rock musicians (and moms), Chris Toppin (Fuzzy) and Tanya Donelly (Belly, Throwing Muses, Breeders), decided they wanted to start a project that would bring together their tremendous music community in order to create the kind of kids' cd that didn’t seem to exist, with a few rare exceptions (Dan Zanes, Ralph’s World etc. - pre "kindie rock" scene). When Chris and Tanya asked some of their friends to each write and record a song, the immediate response from each of the artists was of great enthusiasm. Chris and Tanya felt that they were going to end up with something quite special but what they ended up with far exceeded their expectations. Each song seemed to have its own particular style and sparkle, and when all 16 submissions were put together to form one body of work, it became truly magical! David Minehan’s “Shelter Soulmate”, a touching pop/rock gem of a song that depicts Minnie the kittie’s point of view of how wonderful it is to be found by your "soulmate" family at the animal shelter; Tanya Donelly’s ...

$13.15 Darrick, born and raise in Chicago had his first taste of music early in life. From the things he heard, it started a ball of excitement beyond understanding.“I didn’t at first, know what the words meant, all I knew was that it felt good.”Darrick began without any formal training, but after writing his first song at the age of 18, he went on to study at the Sherwood Music Conservatory to hone his talents.Working with different artist, Darrick began to see that being stuck to one style would not make it in music, so he took a different direction of writing songs, instead of trying to write what he himself would like, he thought about how he felt when he heard those beautiful sounds from said Artists. So he wrote with the feelings of listeners in mind.In 1999, Darrick join a group called “Secret”, while the group garnered minor success, winning various Chicago talent shows and a winning appearance on the famous “Showtime at Apollo” in 2001. Following that success, Darrick began his solo career, ...
