Star Is Born Soundtrack album for sale Product Description
Star Is Born Soundtrack album for sale by Barbra Streisand was released Jan 29, 2002 on the Columbia label. When Streisand and Kristofferson, two very different '70s pop culture icons, united for the remake of the classic film A STAR IS BORN, few expected how well their distinctive styles would complement each other. Streisand was always the singers' singer, possessed of a golden voice and almost superhuman pitch and tone control, while country-rock rebel Kristofferson was from the John Prine/Bob Dylan school of singing, where emotion and intent mattered far more than proper pitch. Star Is Born Soundtrack CD music contains a single disc with 11 songs. ...See Full Description

Animals Retrospective CD (2004) Top Seller
Star Is Born Soundtrack buy CD music Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from a traditional folk lament to an urgent, ominous piece of churning tumult.
Of course, the group skillfully expanded those roots (with the help of some great writers), and turned out some classic working-class-rebel anthems ("We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life"). By '67, the original lineup disbanded, and Eric Burdon led a new batch of Animals into a psychedelic West Coast sound ("San Franciscan Nights," "Monterey"). The Animals may not be given pride of place in the rock history books, but RETROSPECTIVE shows that they fully deserve it.

Essential Barbra Streisand CDs (2002) Top Seller
Star Is Born Soundtrack CD music Although Barbra Streisand has recorded for the same company, Columbia Records, throughout her career, her work has not been particularly well represented on compilations. Four single-disc best-ofs dot her discography, but the listener who wanted to do something as simple as purchase an album containing the original studio recordings of both her first Top Ten hit, "People," and her first number one, "The Way We Were," without plumping for the four-CD box set Just for the Record , was out of luck. Complicating the compiling of her career highlights is her position as essentially an album artist, despite having scattered 11 Top Ten pop hits across 32 years. The ideal collection would have to do justice to her popular early albums of the '60s, her mid-career singles hits of the '70s, and her renewed album success in the '80s and '90s. Here it is. At a CD-busting length of over two and a half hours, this 40-track double-disc set encapsulates Streisand's recording career in chronological order from her 1963 debut album to 1999. (Two previously unreleased tracks sound like outtakes from her later album projects. "Someday My Prince Will Come" probably got left off of A Love Like Ours, while the gospel-tinged "You'll Never Walk Alone" must have been intended for Higher Ground.) Intelligently picking signature performances from her best and most popular albums, it largely eschews a raft of singles that got into the bottom half of the Top 40, but leaves out only one Top Ten hit, "What Kind of Fool." The singer's versatility and her ability to impose her immediately identifiable vocal style on a variety of material are emphasized in recordings that range from Broadway show tunes to disco. A collection like this has been needed for a long time as a gateway to Streisand's bountiful, indeed overwhelming, catalog. ~ William Ruhlmann

Star Is Born DVD (1976) Top Seller
Star Is Born Soundtrack album for sale Two rock superstars play out their lives against the high pressure background of big-time rock and roll. Streisand's singing adds luster to a familiar script. Academy Award Nominations: 4, including Best Song Score. Academy Awards: Best Song ("Evergreen").
The fire of Barbra Streisand. The magnetism of Kris Kristofferson. The reckless world of big-time rock 'n' roll. All three bring a new passion and timeliness to A Star Is Born, one of the screen's classic love stories (previously filmed in 1937 and 1954) and winner of five Golden GlobeŽ Awards, including Best Picture, Actress and Actor (Musical/Comedy). Paul Williams, Kenny Loggins, Leon Russell and others worked with Streisand on one of the most popular song scores ever, topped by the Streisand/Williams Evergreen winning the Academy AwardŽ and Golden GlobeŽ Award as 1976's Best Original Song. Their teamwork resulted in a box-office triumph as well as "a considerable achievement" (Clive Hirschhorn).

Guilty CD (1980) Top Seller
Star Is Born Soundtrack CD music Released in September 1980, GUILTY was Barbra Streisand's best-selling album to date, moving in excess of 20 million units. It is Streisand's THRILLER and arguably her best recorded work. This is largely due to producer Barry Gibb, who developed the songs especially for Barbra, and whose vocal presence is felt throughout the record. "Guilty" (a duet with Gibb) is a mid-tempo smash that blends the superstars' vocals to create pop perfection. "Woman In Love" topped the charts for three weeks and features the trademark "chipmunk-like" Gibb on background vocals.
"Run Wild" is an uptempo number showing that there's no filler here. "Promises" is a mid-tempo track that sounds custom-made for radio airplay. "The Love Inside" features excellent keyboard arrangements while "What Kind Of Fool" (another duet with Gibb) is a ballad that proves Barbra and Barry were meant to sing together. Her vocals on the fast-paced, optimistic "Never Give Up" reveal such a calm demeanor that you can almost picture the relative ease with which this record was produced. This album is a perfect 10, two thumbs up, and proof of what can be achieved when talent and technology come together.

Star Is Born Soundtrack buy CD music The film adaptation of the Broadway musical Funny Girl arrived in theaters four years after the show had opened, again starring Barbra Streisand, but much had changed in the interim, and that's reflected in the soundtrack album. While the stage show had been dominated by Streisand, there had still been room for character songs performed by other people, and the cast album contained 15 different numbers, all written by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill. For the film, eight of those songs were dropped, replaced by three new Styne-Merrill numbers and two period tunes, one of them the torch song "My Man," which was associated with Ziegfeld Follies star Fanny Brice, of whom the film was nominally a biography. There were still a few moments for secondary characters to burst into song, notably the comic "If a Girl Isn't Pretty" and a verse of "You Are Woman, I Am Man" for co-star Omar Sharif (who proved to have an adequate conversational tenor). But the movie version of Funny Girl was even more of a showcase for Streisand than the stage production had been. She responded with a more mannered performance than the one she had given on the cast album, broader and full of spoken interjections. In part, that was necessary -- when you're singing "Don't Rain on My Parade" from a tugboat in New York harbor, you'd better oversing just to keep up with the production values. But the third time around with it (including the hit single rendition), she loaded "People" with vocal effects that bordered on self-parody. With a full movie orchestra, this version of the score is generally bigger and glossier, and Streisand holds her own and then some. But the result is that this drastically revised rendering of the score is less successful than the previous one. ~ William Ruhlmann
