Closed Captioned; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments Super-hunk Scott Hastings is an ambitious, athletic dancer eager to break with the Australian Dance Federation's stodgy traditions and choreograph his own steps for the upcoming Ballroom Dancing Championship. Scott's mother Shirley, his prissy partner Liz and coach Les are up in arms over his brash attitude towards ballroom conventions. Angry at Scott's new passionate refusal to follow the rules, Liz quits, leaving him without a partner. When Fran, a klutzy beginner, approaches him, Scott doesn't believe she can make the grade. But once Fran and her family introduce Scott to the vivacious Spanish rhythms and sharply sensuous moves that are part of their culture, he realizes this is the very outlet he's needed for his talents. Together, Fran and Scott boldly challenge the Federation's provincial attitudes, making everyone green with envy. A top ballroom dancer pairs with a plain, left-footed local girl when his maverick style earns him the disdain of his more conventionally-minded colleagues. Together, the team gives it their all and makes dreams of the National Championship title come true. Directed in a delicious high-key style by director Luhrmann (WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO + JULIET) in his madcap debut. Original aspect ratio of 1.85:1.
Ballroom costume design by Agnus Strathie. Flamenco Dance Tutor was Antonio Vargas.
"Strictly Ballroom" was originally a staged musical in Sydney.

Funny and fabulous Strictly Ballroom is for ballroom dancers the Dirty Dancing for the rest of the viewing public. The story is somewhat predictable, but the humor and dancing was just great. Submitted by dancerick (York, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A Feel-Good Movie For Everyone When this movie came out in 1992, audiences danced in the aisles, laughed, cried, clapped, cheered and gave it a standing ovation. I saw it 5 times in theatres and the reaction was always the same! 10 years on and the feeling is still the same. It would be hard for anyone seeing this movie NOT to have a big grin on their face. The ending is a a classic Hollywood moment that will have you cheering for the underdogs and booing the villians. You don't have to know a thing about ballroom dancing to thoroughly enjoy this quirky Australian movie - the David and Goliath story that will have you cheering for more. The bolero jacket that Scott Hastings wears in the finale is worth the price of the DVD alone!!! Submitted by a reviewer (Canberra, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$10.85 Stephan Elliott (EYE OF THE BEHOLDER) wrote and directed this tale of two drag queens and a transsexual that embark on a road trip to a remote resort town in the Australian desert on a bus christened Priscilla. When Anthony "Tick"/Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) is invited to perform in Alice Springs, he recruits flamboyant young stud Adam/Felicia (Guy Pearce) and the legendary, refined Bernadette (Terence Stamp) to join him. Mitzi, however, fails to disclose one important fact to his friends: his wife is the one who invited them to Alice Springs. With one big secret about to be revealed and another one up his sleeve, Mitzi is a little stressed.
With long hours on the road ahead of them, the trio lip-synchs campy songs on the bus, creates fabulous costumes, and meets a multitude of colorful characters along the way. They party with friendly aborigines, are confronted by judgmental townspeople who are averse to drag queens, ...

$10.29 In GOSFORD PARK, Robert Altman explores the English class system and master-servant relations via his preferred modus operandi of multiple characters and intertwining storylines, which he achieved so brilliantly in NASHVILLE. Featuring an all-star British ensemble cast, the film recalls both THE RULES OF THE GAME and THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, with a midpoint shift to an Agatha Christie whodunit. In November 1932, a phalanx of moneyed guests arrives for a weekend shooting party at the estate of Sir William McCordle (Michael Gambon) and Lady Sylvia (Kristin Scott Thomas). Mary (Kelly Macdonald), a fresh-faced, naïve new maid accompanies the sniping Countess of Trentham (Maggie Smith), and is shown the ropes by the house's worldly head housemaid, Elsie (Emily Watson). While the masters ...
