Thin Lizzy was a hard rock quartet formed by Philip Lynott out of Dublin, Ireland that had numerous charting albums throughout the 70's & 80s. Wounded Bird will be re-issuing five of those albums on Cd. Thunder & Lightning was originally issued in 1983. Featured is guitarist John Sykes.
Thin Lizzy: Phil Lynott (vocals, 12-string guitar, bass); Scott Gorham, John Sykes (guitar); Darren Wharton (keyboards); Brian Downey (drums). Engineers: Andrew Warwick, Chris Tsangarides. Recorded at Lombard, Dublin, Ireland and Power Plant and Boathouse, London, England. Digitally remastered by Eddie Shreyer & Brian Slagel (Future Disc). Thin Lizzy's final studio release, Thunder and Lightning, was their most consistent album since 1979's Black Rose. Guitarist John Sykes replaced Snowy White, and the new blood must have inspired Lynott and company to write some of their best compositions in years. Although a pop-metal production hinders the tracks, there's more of a harder edge present than on their last release, Renegade. While the title track served as the ensuing tour's raging opener, half-baked lyrics detailing a fistfight and an unwarranted synth-solo weakens what should have been a straight-ahead rocker. But such heavies as "This Is the One" and "Cold Sweat" suit the band much better. Lizzy takes a stab at dance-rock with "The Holy War," while laying back with the tranquil "The Sun Goes Down" and the album's underrated highlight, the melodic "Bad Habits." Like Lizzy's other '80s releases, filler is present -- "Someday She Is Going to Hit Back" and "Heart Attack" and disappointingly, guitarist Scott Gorham abandons his trademark harmony leads of yesteryear in favor of '80s-era high-tech shredding. Not Lizzy's best release, but a definite improvement over their other '80s studio output. ~ Greg Prato For this album Thin Lizzy went all out and recorded what is arguably the heaviest album in their career, partially due to the intricate guitar work of John Sykes (who would later work with Whitesnake and form his own group called Blue Murder). Phil Lynott's voice is in top form on the album, which contains "Holy Wars," "Cold Sweat," and "Baby Please Don't Go." ~ John Book

Best of the 80s Lizzy Definitely a slight return to form after the dreadful "Chinatown" & "Renegade" records. It's also Lizzy's heaviest record.
If you want your Lizzy heavy - get this record. If you want a little more quality song writing, go for the 76 -79 Lizzy. Plus if you get annoyed by over the top guitar solos, avoid this record. New guitarist John Sykes can play, but he's of that 80s breed of guitarists who like to show off a little too much, and doesn't have the originality and "playing for the song" mentality of Robertson or Moore.
The album is let down by two really awful awful songs "Baby Please Don't Go" and "Someday She Is Going To Hit Back". I also believe that the cover art really cost Lizzy here - it's very Spinal Tap (where was their regular artist Jim Fitzpatrick??). Listen before you buy! cold sweat...running down the back of my neck! this was a great final phil lizzy cd.i think it has plenty of nice power rockers and ballads on it. john sykes wails on guitar on this release.....COLD SWEAT is worth the admission price alone.then you got phil's great vocals...and the extremely underated scott gorham on lead/rhythm guitar. a very good slab of rock n roll! i say 4 stars! brian o Submitted by brian (worcester, mass.usa) Was This Review Helpful? Great Shred Album Undoubtedly, this was the heaviest and hardest album that Lizzy ever made, in trying to keep up with emerging acts such as Iron Maiden and Motorhead. To achieve this, Lizzy recruited the most exciting talent on the metal scene back then, John Sykes, from Tygers Of Pan Tang. An exciting, flashy player, Sykes shines on 'The Holy War', the title-track itself, and, especially, 'Cold Sweat', which contains one of rocks finest solos and riffs. Gorham plays very well on 'Bad Habits' and the beautiful 'Sun Goes Down', but Sykes is the clear winner. Any shred fans out there should look at 'Bad Boy Live' by John Sykes, and the all-time classic 'Live at Nottingham Rock City' by Tygers Of Pan Tang. Thunder And Lightning
$6.65 Jailbreak was such a peak that it was inevitable that its follow-up would fall short in some fashion and Johnny the Fox, delivered the same year as its predecessor, did indeed pale in comparison. What's interesting about Johnny the Fox is that it's interesting, hardly a rote repetition of Jailbreak but instead an odd, fitfully successful evolution forward. All the same strengths are still here -- the band still sounds as thunderous as a ...

Thunder And Lightning
$6.55 Thin Lizzy: Phil Lynott (vocals, bass); Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham (guitar); Brian Downey (drums). If Thin Lizzy got a bit too grand and florid on Johnny the Fox, they quickly corrected themselves on its 1977 follow-up, Bad Reputation. Teaming up with the legendary producer Tony Visconti, Thin Lizzy managed to pull of a nifty trick of sounding leaner, tougher than they did on Johnny, yet they also had a broader sonic palette. Much of this ...

$95.25 Many Bear Family releases seem like overkill, but this one is easy to justify. This triple CD is a truly wonderful collection, including every one of the 64 sides that Rex Griffin recorded between 1935 and 1946, and also 16 songs recorded as demos by his brother Buddy between 1948 and 1955. The repertory ...
