This live collection features ten of Squier's most well-known hits from his nearly three decades of being in the music business. Judging from Squier's eroding voice and highly chorused backing synthesizers, this is quite obviously a recent recording from the later portion of his career. It is by no means a definitive greatest-hits collection, but if you're a casual fan who wants to hear "The Stroke" and a blistering version of "Everybody Wants You," or if you saw Squier on a recent package tour of '70s and '80s rockers and wish to have a souvenir, this is a reasonably priced document to have in your collection. ~ Rob Theakston Billy Squier Extended Versions Songs | 1. | Stroke, The | |

Extended Versions album
$6.25 Billy Ocean's Greatest Hits packs nearly all of the singer's charted singles that were on the Jive record label. Ocean scored an impressive run of feel-good Top 40 hits in the mid- to late '80s, including three number one singles, those being the classic post-disco jam "Caribbean Queen," the ballad "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)," and ...

$9.55 Although this album contains a lot of non-essential hardcore, it does get props for so thoroughly documenting the early-'80s D.C. hardcore scene. For some of the groups (Red C, Iron Cross), this compilation was the extent of their exposure. For others ...
| | Reverend Horton Heat Revival CD (2004)
Extended Versions album
$13.49 Listening to some of the lyrics on REVIVAL might give long-time fans of Reverend Horton Heat's madcap, sleaze-loving rockabilly pause. The opening track is a narrative of a man looking back on the things he regrets, hoping for redemption. Elsewhere, "Someone in Heaven" is a traditional country ballad, which is either about the loss of a loved one or turning to the Lord. "We Belong Forever" is a sweet, down-tempo love song that drips with sincerity. What's going on here? Well, it might be that the Reverend himself (guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Jim Heath) is growing up and mellowing out a bit.
Or it might be that he's just trying to psych listeners out, because REVIVAL is still jammed with yee-ha guitar riffs and giddy-up rhythms. The sound is still straight rock & roll, flavored with country, blues, and a healthy dollop of punk energy (thanks to the insanely amped-up guitars and jackhammer drums). Lyrically, Heath has some of his old bluster, too, particularly on "Callin' in Twisted" (a confessional song about calling in to work drunk), and "Party Mad" (about how Heath plans to party like crazy once his lover leaves). And, as always, Heath's axe blazes all over the joint like no one's ...
| | Rca 100th Anniversary Series: The Very Best Of Neil Sedaka CD (2001) (Import) Australia
Extended Versions CD music
$11.65 A fine rhythmic pianist with a thin, high voice that he strengthened by multi-tracking, Neil Sedaka turned his Brill Building pop songwriting smarts and doo wop influences into a long and successful career. He had two really distinct commercial peaks, a string of teen hits in the late 1950s and early '60s and then another run between 1972 and 1975 where he essentially did the exact same thing (and often with the same ...

| | Sur La Mer Samp-Le-Mer CD (2006)
Extended Versions album
$9.55 It's been almost ten years since Slim Moon started Kill Rock Stars' eccentric sister label 5 Rue Christine, but they had yet to release a sampler album until 5RC Sur la Mer Samp-le-Mer, which, with 17 tracks, is long enough to include music from nearly all of their current artists (Nervous Cop and the Seconds were left off). Ten of the tracks are previously unreleased, which should make label diehards happy, and for those unfamiliar with 5RC and who wish to expand their stilted and antiquated ideas of what a song actually is, the sampler will assuredly aid in that discovery. The label strives to push the boundaries of traditional ideas of music, and their artists reflect that eclectic mix of sounds and highlight 5RC's love of ambient noise, fuzz, bleeps, and silence. Not that everything is so abstract that it's impossible to understand. A fair number of tracks here retain a more standard compositional structure (the Advantage's "Castlevania III -- Boss Music, Willow -- Village, Megaman II -- Bubble Man," which, as all the video game fans out there have already guessed, is a cover of Nintendo songs, and is actually very tight-sounding and even kind of fun, or Deerhoof's psychedelic pop-inspired "Running Thoughts"), but ...
