"2 LP's On 1 CD" B/W "Honey"
2 LPs on 1 CD: IT MUST BE HIM (1968)/HONEY (1968). Originally released on Columbia. Liner Note Author: Ray Conniff. Recording information: 03/22/1967-04/08/1968. Arranger: Ray Conniff. A good matchup of two similar and consecutive LP releases is offered on this discount-priced two-fer. It Must Be Him and Honey were Ray Conniff's first two albums of 1968, and they were among his more successful, each enjoying a long chart run and earning gold record certification. Conniff had updated his arranging style by this point, adapting himself to the rock revolution by bringing in electric guitars and beefing up the sound of the rhythm section, but he hadn't changed his basic approach. All 22 tracks here are his versions of songs that were in the pop charts between 1964 and 1968, originally recorded by the likes of British Invasion acts like the Beatles and Herman's Hermits as well as a slew of middle-of-the-road pop singers. Some of the songs, notably "Yesterday," "Sounds of Silence," and "Goin' Out of My Head," as well as the trio of songs written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and the two written by Jimmy Webb, have gone on to become standards. Others are more of their time, though they may spark a smile of recognition among '60s nostalgia fans. Conniff's arrangements shadow those of the original recordings, while his singers render the lyrics in a consistently pleasant, superficial style, even when they are negotiating the disquieting sentiments of "Sounds of Silence," for example. The indiscriminate use of male voices on lyrics written from a female point of view sometimes lends an unintended subtext of sexual ambiguity ("It must be him!," sing the boys and girls with apparently equal ardor) -- that is, if you want to hear it that way. Maybe the best way to appreciate this long-outdated style of music is with a sense of humor. ~ William Ruhlmann

The Classic (Great) Sond of Ray Conniff.
22 well known big hits as only Ray Conniff can do them. He gives his “touch” to these classic songs and elevates them to a higher level of listening enjoyment. Admittedly, several of the songs on this album were not my favorites in there original release. Mr. Conniff worked his usual magic and created an album full of great music. If you like Ray’s late 60's style you’ll like this album. Recording quality is typical “Columbia sound” and is excellent. Brief liner notes, but who cares? Sit back and enjoy another Ray Conniff masterpiece!

Special Sound. Ray Conniff does not pretend to be a classical, but its sound is unique! He is like The Beatles. In the kingdom of music, they will live forever! Submitted by a reviewer (Miami, Fl.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The best CD of R. C. I think those are the 2 better LPs of R. Conniff. The arragements are spectacular, the sound, 1A, the music, super! I really love the music of Conniff from late 60´s, as the music from Percy Faith, and all the music of Ronnie Aldrich Submitted by renegonzalezmedina (Bogotá, Colombia) Was This Review Helpful? What a tribute to Vikki Carr with "It Must Be Him" To feature Vikki Carr's million seller hit "it Must Be Him" on one of his first LPs now on CD is great! I love the music during the era and I heard Vikki's version on the radio the other day and it still sounds as good as I first heard it all the time on the radio! This is a perfect CD to unwind and relax! Great tunes for Ray fans! Submitted by Gregory (New Orleans, LA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$13.05 with members of SANTANA, CONSOLIDATED and MEAT BEAT MANIFESTOThe LATIN SOUL SYNDICATE is a band that arose out of the friendship between Happy Sanchez, Mark Pistel and Karl Perazzo. In the late '70s, Happy and Karl became friends while playing around the salsa scene in their native San Francisco. Karl went on to play percussion with SHEILA E's band, and in 1986, Happy opened up a rehearsal/recording studio, working with local bands as a musician and producer. In the early '90s Karl was asked to join SANTANA. At the same time, the industrial/hip-hop group CONSOLIDATED, which included Mark Pistel, was becoming popular on the local scene. By the late '90s, Happy had started a record label and hired Mark to produce and engineer some of his artists. In 2000, Happy brought in Mark and Karl to help on a project, and the three discovered how much fun they had working together. After leaving his band LOS MOCOSOS in 2002, Happy decided to put a musical group together with Mark and Karl.
