Tabloid reporters Jack Harrison (Jeff Goldblum) and Gil Turner (Ed Begley, Jr.) are sent to Transylvania with two choices: find the Frankenstein monster or find new jobs. But before the jumpy journalists can dig up their big story, they must first face the horrors of an extremely clumsy butler (Michael Richards), a nymphomaniac vampire (Geena Davis) and a semi-mad doctor (Joseph Bologna), as well as assorted mummies, werewolves and more Transylvanian oddballs. Can these two bumbling heroes unravel this monstrous mystery or are they in for some very scary surprises? Two fearless journalists travel to Transylvania to search for proof of the region's legendary monsters and vampires. Instead of Dracula, however, they find a mayor-cum-hotel manager transforming castles into theme hotels, and madcap doctors performing wild and wacky experiments. An uproarious spoof of vampire thrillers. Transylvania 6-5000 Reviews: "...[Goldblum and Begley] make an engaging screen team....Michael Richards executes goofy slapstick moves..."

| | Thin Lizzy Black Rose: A Rock Legend CD (1979)
Transylvania 6-5000 review
$10.65 Hard rock quartet formed by Philip Lynott out of Dublin, Ireland. Thin Lizzy had numerous charting albums throughout the 70's & 80's. Black Rose was originally released in 1980. Featured guitarists are Gary Moore & Scott Gorham. 8 tracks. 2001 reissue.
Additional personnel includes: Bluesy Hughie (harp); Jimmy Bain (bass).
Recorded at Pathe Marconi Studios, Paris, France and Good Earth Studios, London, England.
Producers include: Tony Visconti, Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott.
Black Rose: A Rock Legend would prove to be Thin Lizzy's last true classic album (and last produced by Tony Visconti). Guitarist Brian Robertson was replaced by Gary Moore prior to the album's recording. Moore had already been a member of the band in the early '70s and served as a tour fill-in for Robertson in 1977, and he fits in perfectly with Lizzy's heavy, dual-guitar attack. Black Rose also turned out to be the band's ...
| | Starz Violation CD (1977) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Transylvania 6-5000 DVD
$10.45 Starz' sophomore album, Violation, was quite similar to its predecessor. Jack Douglas was still the band's producer, and Starz continued to favor the type of slick, commercial hard rock that would be called pop-metal in the '80s and early '90s. This 1977 LP didn't establish Starz as major players in the pop-metal field; the New Yorkers did have a small following, although not a huge one. Nonetheless, this is an enjoyable record. It doesn't contain any pop-metal masterpieces like Kiss' "Shout It out Loud" or Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz," but tracks like "Cherry Baby" and "Rock Six Times" are certainly decent. Most of the time, Starz vocalist Michael Lee Smith sings about the same things that Kiss and Sweet were singing about in the '70s; namely, all-night parties and wild young women in tight dresses. Starz's lyrics, as a rule, were meant to be fun, not profound, and while Violation didn't go down in history as one of pop-metal's all-time classics, it's worth hearing if you're a fan of the style. ~ Alex Henderson

| | Witchcraft Firewood CD (2005)
Transylvania 6-5000 movie DVD
$13.55 Ask a group of doom metal or stoner rock enthusiasts what band was the blueprint for the doom/stoner field, and the vast majority will -- without hesitation -- say Black Sabbath. So when a band is as Sabbath-influenced as Witchcraft, it is understandable that some headbangers would describe them as a doom band. But Witchcraft isn't nearly as forceful or as heavy as Eyehategod, Orange Goblin, or Toadliquor, and Firewood isn't typical of what has been considered doom metal and stoner rock in the '90s and 2000 -- actually, this 2005 release shows no awareness of post-'80s metal or even post-'70s metal. Rather, Firewood is a total throwback to the heavy metal, hard rock, and psychedelic rock of the late '60s and very early '70s. Black Sabbath's first few albums with Ozzy ...

Transylvania 6-5000 film
$9.79 Reviving the beloved comedy franchise THE PINK PANTHER, the brilliant Steve Martin returns to his slapstick physical-comedy roots. After years of flirting with the world of high culture--from his hilarious NEW YORKER pieces to his critically acclaimed novella, SHOPGIRL--Martin is back to doing what he became famous for: splitting our sides with laughter. Here he reinvents the character of Inspector Clouseau, the hapless, bungling detective with the overwrought French accent and metaphorically huge head. With his black beret and ...
