This version contains a P. Diddy/Mario Winans remix of the song, "No More Drama."
"He Think I Don't Know" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
From P Diddy to Lenny Kravitz, a plethora of producers and guest stars graces this updated, remix-added version of Mary J. Blige's 2001 NO MORE DRAMA, a situation usually signaling a dearth of creativity on behalf of the featured artist. Fortunately that's not the case here. Blige is fully in control, from a lyrical reworking of the '70s Al Green classic "Simply Beautiful" entitled "PMS," which could well become an anthem for women suffering from those disabling symptoms, to the Dr. Dre-produced "Family Affair," in which this classic R&B singer self-confidently modernizes her image for the J-Lo generation.
"He Think I Don't Know" is vintage Blige, her roots firmly in late-'70s deep soul, while the autobiographical "Where I've Been" features Eve paying homage to a woman who's struggled through poverty and drug addiction and come out the other side a stronger person. This is a masterful effort that finds Mary J. Blige successfully updating her sound while retaining the musical depth that got her where she is today.
Listeners of Mary J. Blige's seasoned and confident fifth studio release will have zero problems remembering the album's title, No More Drama. An urban-sounding vocal sample that sings, "Mary J. Blige, no more drama," plays throughout the length of the 17-track disc. This very well may be the first time such a tactic has been used in contemporary music; generally a vocal sample repeats throughout the course of only one song, but because the fare on No More Drama is so good, this recurring vocal sample is as subtle and congruent as a consistent drum hit. Blige has come a long way since 1992's breakthrough, What's the 411?, and that's made very clear on this solid disc. The singer/songwriter has blossomed into an all-out R&B diva -- with a hip-hop edge -- full of soul and command. Her songs on this recording exude the wisdom of a woman who's seen it all and has found her center. And she will no longer tolerate drama, pettiness, and overall crap. In 2001's crop of R&B singers, Blige's voice was truly inimitable. It is hus

$8.45 The opening track 'Leave A Message' is an immediately intriguing hook for the listener. A series of answering machine messages over a funky drum beat does not fail, even though most callers insist on saying 'peace' instead of 'goodbye' at the end of every call. The artist first appears on track two, and stays in control throughout an album of high-quality urban R&B/soul. Highly commercial, yet it never sinks to the blandness of some other 90s female pop acts. Tracks such as 'Real Love' lend more to the best of Aretha Franklin pop flirtations than to 90s R&B. Blige is Aretha's heir apparent.

| | Mary J Blige My Life CD (1994)
No More Drama
$10.39 MY LIFE was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
The immediate success of her triple-platinum debut WHAT'S THE 411? put Mary J. Blige in a singular class as a soul-hop visionary, and opened the door for other hip-hop-influenced R&B acts. Yet as the follow-up approached, the nature of her talent began to be questioned, and the strength of her debut became an obstacle.
If Blige heard all those rumors, she must've decided that musical revenge is the best payback of all. Thus, MY LIFE comes across as another ground-breaking venture, linking R&B's new and old schools, filling the airwaves with delightful harmonies AND hip-hop samples. When Blige connects with her music's roots, she doesn't pussy-foot around soul's perimeters searching for eligible influences--so "You Bring Me Joy," "My Life" and "Be Happy" sample such luminaries as Barry White, Roy Ayers and Curtis Mayfield, respectively. ...
| | Mary J Blige Share My World CD (1997)
No More Drama
$11.49 SHARE MY WORLD was nominated for a 1988 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
Uber-producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis come aboard for this hip-hop diva's third album, but they don't take over the way they do with more impressionable singers. SHARE MY WORLD remains very much Mary J. Blige's album, featuring 17 tracks worth of the same bumpin' soul that has made her one of the premier singers of the '90s. Blige earned the title "queen of hip-hop soul" with her amazing blend of hip-hop beats and R&B vocals on her debut album, WHAT'S THE 411?, and then followed up with the equally strong MY LIFE, which showed off a more personal side. On SHARE MY WORLD, she invites you to share a world of true success.
When Blige sings, whether it be a ballad or a hip-hop track, she sings from the heart, both to and for her audience. Collaborating with R. Kelly, Nas, Lil' Kim, Bryce Wilson of Groove Theory ...

No More Drama
$15.09 Additional personnel includes: Rockin' Robin Roberts, Kent Morill, Gail Harris (vocals).
Containing both of the Wailers' first two albums on Etiquette (1961's The Fabulous Wailers at the Castle and 1964's The Wailers and Co.), this is a good summary of the group's early-'60s recordings, particularly as it adds half a dozen bonus tracks from 1961-1964 singles. The live At the Castle album is a historically important document of the early-'60s Northwest sound, spotlighting a white band that could play tough rock & roll with a heavy R&B influence. Mixing hard-driving percussion with guitars, sax, and organ, it was divided between instrumentals (including a version of the 1959 hit "Tall Cool One") and numbers with vocals by Kent Morrill, Rockin' Robin Roberts (who had sung lead on the Wailers' 1961 "Louie Louie" single), and young teenage girl Gail Harris. This doesn't mean, mind you, that the music's that great. In fact, the songs are too repetitive to hold up as well for record listeners as they must have for dancers at their shows. When Harris takes the mic for covers of Etta James' "All I Could Do Was Cry" and Ike & Tina Turner's "I Idolize You," though, the results are astonishingly fierce, throat-ripping soul for such a young white woman of the era, making one regret she didn't record more at the time. Released in 1964, The Wailers ...
