Russell Mulcahy's original saga of immortal Scotsman Connor Macleod, one of a race of immortals who can only be killed when beheaded with a sword. After living in peace for four centuries, he is challenged by an old enemy named Kurgan. During a fierce sword battle in the 1500s, Connor MacLeod, a simple Scotsman known as a poor fighter, is mortally wounded -- but he does not die. MacLeod learns from the mysterious Ramirez that he is of a race of immortals. These rare knights never age and never reproduce, they can only meet death by the blade of another of their kind. Leaping back and forth through the centuries, MacLeod once again meets the evil Kurgan who nearly killed him 500 years ago.

Produced by TESE. The Collector's Edition laserdisc (Cat. #LV-25895) includes the director's cut of the film, which is actually the 6-minute longer version released outside the U.S. in 1986. Also included are a running film commentary, by the producers and director Russell Mulcahy, and a CAV supplement containing press releases, background profiles, text and pictures from lost scenes, trailers, and more. Although "Highlander" made only $5 million at the U.S. box office, the film grossed almost $70 million overseas. It went on to spawn two sequels, an animated children's television series, a live-action television series on the USA cable network, a series of books, a "Highlander" Web site, a CD-ROM game and a huge merchandising catalogue.

Highlander Quotes/Excerpts:

"There can be only one!" -- Connor MacLeod (CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT).

Highlander Reviews:

"...Entertaining....The picture is beautifully photographed....Outstanding special effects..." -- Brit., Variety

"...[This] entertaining fantasy flits between centuries of film-making styles with abandon..." -- Geoffrey Macnab, Sight and Sound

5 stars ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER FROM THE 80'S
KUDOS TO CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT, SEAN CONNERY AND CLANCY BROWN WHO WERE BRILLIANT IN THIS MOVIE. JUST GREAT ACTING BY A GREAT CAST. THIS MOVIE CAME OUT OF NOWHERE IN 1986 AND WAS A CULT HIT JUGGERNAUT JUST LIKE "EQUILBRIUM" DID IN 2002. IN MY OPINION "HIGHLANDER" WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST SCI- FI/FANTASY MOVIES EVER MADE. IT SIMPLY BELONGS IN EVERY MOVIE COLLECTION EVERYWHERE. "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE"!

5 stars There can be only one!!!!
One of my favorite movies of all time. There are immortals among us. Very original. The cinematography, the story and the soundtrack were amazing. Unfortunately this movie set the bar so high, the sequels failed miserably to live up...proving once again that 'there can be only one!'

5 stars There can only be one
This is a crazy movie about immortals that fight with sword & the only way to kill them is to cut off their head, then they take in the others power. Someone was smoking some good stuff making this movie.

John Nada (Roddy Piper) is a quiet loner, a drifter who gets work where ever he can find it. While working on a construction site in L.A. and sleeping in a vagrant community at night, John stumbles upon a secret society of alien beings who pose as wealthy and powerful people in human society. John joins a rebel group commited to exposing this conspiracy, and becomes their reluctant leader and the only hope of the human race. Former wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper is outstanding as the unassuming hero, playing the role with understated shock at what he uncovers and stubborn courage when he confronts it. Director John Carpenter laces the film with his trademark blend of humor and horror, making aliens that are hideously arrogant, greedy, and easy to hate, while the humans are confused and desperate in their struggle against them. The world looks a little different at the end of THEY LIVE, and one will never look at billboards, money, or sunglasses the same way again. The film contains the longest, and perhaps most realistic, fist fight in film history. ...

DVD $9.69  4.5 stars Top 100
Picking up where NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD left off, and still offering no explanation of why the dead are walking the earth, DAWN OF THE DEAD plunges headlong into one of the most violent and original horror films ever made. After securing an apartment building overcome with flesh-eating zombies, two Philadelphia area SWAT team members, Peter (Ken Foree) and Roger (Scott Reiniger), flee to a television station, where they escape in the station's helicopter with Francine (Gaylen Ross) and Stephen (David Emge), two station employees. Seeking refuge from the zombies and the ensuing hysteria, they land on top of a Pittsburgh area shopping mall, despite the fact that the undead seem to be flocking there. What begins as a stop for supplies becomes a longer stay as the four become embroiled in a futile war within the mall to keep their flesh to themselves and remain alive. The film's relentlessly disturbing and innovative gore effects are one reason to see DAWN OF THE DEAD, but those who can stomach the endless barrage of blood and gnarled zombie faces will be rewarded--and possibly surprised--by what the film says about human nature and life within a consumer-based culture. Any aficionado of horror is likely to place the film high on their list of revered cinema. The original 1968 horror ...

The longest and (in retrospect) most significant of the sixth-season DOCTOR WHO adventures, "The War Games" began its ten-week run on April 9, 1969. The TARDIS materializes on a planet that bears a remarkable resemblance to Earth. But there are a few differences: for one thing, the landscape seems to be festooned with battlefields; for another, the combatants are garbed in costumes from a vast and dizzying array of countries and centuries. The Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and his companions Jamie (Frazer Hines) ...

Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) continue their battle against the machines in THE MATRIX RELOADED, the second chapter of Larry and Andy Wachowski's MATRIX trilogy. As RELOADED begins, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus arrive in Zion with new crew member Link (Harold Perrineau), and discover that 250,000 dreaded sentinels are close to launching a massive attack on the underground haven for the liberated minds of humanity. When Neo seeks advice from the prophetic Oracle (the late Gloria Foster), their meeting leads to a sorely outnumbered fight with Neo's old nemesis, Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving). While the sentinels advance on Zion, various battles within the Matrix continue to escalate, culminating in an extended highway chase sequence involving Morpheus, Trinity, more imposing agents, and two new adversaries--the relentless white-clad Twins (Adrian and Neil Rayment). With RELOADED, the Wachowski brothers delve deeper into both the realm of the Matrix and the apocalyptic, machine-controlled future reality. Initially giving ample attention to both the romance between Neo and Trinity and to the vast underground city of Zion, the film eventually delivers one stunning set piece after another, with the amazing martial arts sequences and jaw-dropping effects of the first MATRIX elevated to even more astounding heights. In addition to the returning cast of Reeves, Moss, Fishburne, Weaving, and Foster, Perrineau and Jada Pinkett Smith make for welcome new additions, and Monica Bellucci offers up an unforgettably sensual appearance. Larger than the original scale on every ...
