Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown, Roxanne Hart, Sean Connery - Director: Russell Mulcahy Russell Mulcahy's original saga of immortal Scotsman Connor Macleod, one of a race of immortals who can only be killed when beheaded with a sword. After living in peace for four centuries, he is challenged by an old enemy named Kurgan.
During a fierce sword battle in the 1500s, Connor MacLeod, a simple Scotsman known as a poor fighter, is mortally wounded -- but he does not die. MacLeod learns from the mysterious Ramirez that he is of a race of immortals. These rare knights never age and never reproduce, they can only meet death by the blade of another of their kind. Leaping back and forth through the centuries, MacLeod once again meets the evil Kurgan who nearly killed him 500 years ago. Produced by TESE.
The Collector's Edition laserdisc (Cat. #LV-25895) includes the director's cut of the film, which is actually the 6-minute longer version released outside the U.S. in 1986. Also included are a running film commentary, by the producers and director Russell Mulcahy, and a CAV supplement containing press releases, background profiles, text and pictures from lost scenes, trailers, and more.
Although "Highlander" made only $5 million at the U.S. box office, the film grossed almost $70 million overseas. It went on to spawn two sequels, an animated children's television series, a live-action television series on the USA cable network, a series of books, a "Highlander" Web site, a CD-ROM game and a huge merchandising catalogue. Highlander Quotes/Excerpts: "There can be only one!" -- Connor MacLeod (CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT). Highlander Reviews: "...Entertaining....The picture is beautifully photographed....Outstanding special effects..."

Highlander Movie Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) Awesome movie! I love this movie! This is the first Highlander movie; where it all began. And it is the best. Submitted by stephdouglas (lockport, ny) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER FROM THE 80'S KUDOS TO CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT, SEAN CONNERY AND CLANCY BROWN WHO WERE BRILLIANT IN THIS MOVIE. JUST GREAT ACTING BY A GREAT CAST. THIS MOVIE CAME OUT OF NOWHERE IN 1986 AND WAS A CULT HIT JUGGERNAUT JUST LIKE "EQUILBRIUM" DID IN 2002. IN MY OPINION "HIGHLANDER" WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST SCI- FI/FANTASY MOVIES EVER MADE. IT SIMPLY BELONGS IN EVERY MOVIE COLLECTION EVERYWHERE. "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE"! Submitted by MICHAELCBAREFOOT (FOUR OAKS, N.C.,U.S.A.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
There can be only one!!!! One of my favorite movies of all time. There are immortals among us. Very original. The cinematography, the story and the soundtrack were amazing. Unfortunately this movie set the bar so high, the sequels failed miserably to live up...proving once again that 'there can be only one!'

There can only be one This is a crazy movie about immortals that fight with sword & the only way to kill them is to cut off their head, then they take in the others power. Someone was smoking some good stuff making this movie. Submitted by Lee (Alabama) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
IT'S A CLASSIC ,BUT I PREFER BEOWULF!!! Bottomline if I had to choose between this movie, and Beowulf.I'd choose Beowulf.Grant it this movie made Christopher lambert. But he was alway's a bit of a underdog, and a wimp in this film I thought,to me he play's a better tough guy.To tell you the truth most the time I was rooting for Kirgen, because he looked way cooler. With a cooler sword, and seemed more confident, and tougher all around.
Now if they would of took Christopher lambert off the second film, and put him in this one.It might of been a better match, and probably a much better movie, plus I think his white handled sword look's wimpy, and the overal movie's very slow, with a boring historical feel, not to mention way to much Queen music, but I think if you like Christopher Lambert as an actor than you should definately already own this... $29.59 Those prepared to hate the reboot of STAR TREK--whether they’re diehard fans or those in the anti-sci-fi camp--may be convinced to lower their shields after seeing this fun, action-filled film. Best known for creating mythology-driven series like LOST, J.J. Abrams has imbued his version with the elements that have made his shows such mind-bending entertainment while still keeping the soul of the saga intact. STAR TREK begins with an attack by an impossibly advanced Romulan ship captained by the tattooed, snarling Nero (Eric Bana). Among the survivors is the infant version of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), who grows up to wreak havoc on the Iowa countryside. When Captain Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) meets an adult Kirk, he encourages him to join Starfleet, giving him the opportunity to meet Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), and the rest of the characters audiences have loved for decades.
Abrams has assembled a fine cast who seem to be aware of their predecessors but never resort to impressions. Both Quinto and Pine do a fine job with their portrayals of Kirk and Spock, and Karl Urban couldn’t be better as Leonard McCoy. The supporting players--Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), and Anton Yelchin (Chekov)--all capture the essence of what drove their characters, though their screen time is limited. STAR TREK manages the nearly impossible: it pleases hardcore fans with plenty of in-jokes and references (and an appearance by the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy), but it doesn’t alienate newcomers with tons of technobabble. The action and effects rank with any other top-tier summer blockbuster, but there’s plenty of humor to balance the excitement. For anyone who (wrongly) ...

$9.69 Based on both the short story by John W. Campbell, Jr. and the 1951 film produced by Howard Hawks, THE THING is John Carpenter's stunning masterpiece of horror. A group of weary scientists enduring the winter in an isolated camp deep in Antarctica chance upon an alien spacecraft buried in the ice. Near the strange craft is the body of an alien being, frozen solid. Thinking they have made the find of a lifetime, the scientists bring the alien body back to camp and thaw it out. The alien awakens, not in the best of moods, and proceeds to take over the identities of the scientists, one by one, body and all. Helicopter pilot MacCready (Kurt Russell) must lead the surviving men in discovering who among them is human and who is not and how they can destroy "the thing" before it takes them all and moves on to the heavily populated mainland and the rest of humanity. Rob Bottin supplies the awe-inspiring special effects of the creature in its many, ever-changing forms. The effects were groundbreaking at the time and hold up flawlessly over the passing years. But Carpenter does not rely solely on special effects, utilizing his spectacular cast, which includes Wilford Brimley and Richard Dysart, to create three dimensional characters enduring an unthinkable situation. The score from Ennio Morricone is understated, yet increases the tense mood tenfold. Shooting was difficult and done in below freezing conditions, but despite the discomfort the cast and crew produced a truly terrifying film that will stand the test of time. THE THING ...

$7.15 A meteor shower disrupts the earth's ecosystem and, unfortunately for the roughly 99% of the world's population that either advertently or inadvertently witnessed the beautiful but dangerous event, it blinds them. Moments later, Bill Masen takes off his hospital blindfold and realizes he's one of the only people with sight left on Earth. It just might be up to Bill and an alcoholic scientist to care of the Triffids, sentient and hostile alien plant life triggered by the blinding blast to emerge from spores that had already been brought to Earth by an earlier meteor shower. Based on a novel by John Wyndham that originally revolved around experimental-but-decidedly-earthly plants running amok, many elements were added to this feature adaptation to make it somewhat reminiscent of WAR OF THE WORLDS. The screenplay was originally credited to only Phillip Yordan, with co-scribe Bernard Gordon receiving no billing.
The Triffids are coming! The Triffids are killing! A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds anyone ...
