This is the definitive Kansas recording and includes their most famous tune, "Dust in the Wind." The band is in peak form and also churned out the single "Point of Know Return," which is still played daily on classic rock stations. While their pop-oriented approach and standard rock guitar sound helped define the classic rock sound of the '70s, careful listening reveals that this band's talent goes beyond colleagues such as Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Boston. Their arrangements and time signatures more accurately reflect the music of Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. "Paradox" and "The Spider" are both excellent examples of their progressive approach. Unfortunately, the band always struggled to maintain a healthy balance of progression combined with pop. That made for such awkward moments here as "Portrait (He Knew)" and "Lightning's Hand." Yet despite the minor inconsistencies and a dated sound, their interplay and superior musicianship make this both an essential classic rock and progressive rock recording. ~ Robert Taylor
The high point of Kansas's long career, 1977's POINT OF KNOW RETURN found the American heartlanders finally striking the perfect balance between complex prog-rock, hard-hitting heavy guitar work, and crafty pop sensibilities. This is perhaps best exemplified by the title cut, a sparkling tune full of jaunty interaction between piano and violin that moves unerringly through some tricky musical maneuvers, while remaining engagingly catchy and accessible. The electrifying riffs that fly around in "Lightning's Hand" and "The Spider" show that the knack for tunes like the previous album's classic "Carry On Wayward Son" had not deserted Kansas. At the same time, thoughtful (but not saccharine) ballads such as "Dust in the Wind" and "Hopelessly Human" make it clear that there was more than flash to the band. Nevertheless, there's honestly impressive flash aplenty to be found here in Kansas's finest hour.

5 stars The Best American Band
What a pain it can be for music lovers in Australia. Kansas are my favourite US group, only Tull come in front of them. The well known songs of this are classics, but the tracks like He Knew, Closet Chronicles and Nobody's Home are just as great. Sensational lyrics. Another group never seen here.

5 stars Must have CD of this group. Best Kansas music evah!
I have listen to Kansas since 1975 and with each album the got better. When they came out with "Leftoverture" I thought they had reached the "pinnacle" of progressive rock. I was so wrong. "Point of No Return" is the high water mark for this unique American band. Every song is musically different and yet has the ability to make you wait for the next song, to see how different it will be compared to the others. If you buy any Kansas album, by this one first. Then buy the rest. You won't be dissappointed.

5 stars Another remastered all time rock classic from Kansas.
Number 3 in the Kansas remaster series & their 5th original album release. This album, in my opinion, has the best artwork & sleeve notes of all time as well as the music which displays a band at it's creative peak in 1977. The music is simply stunning; classic American prog rock by an awesome group of musicians who had produced 4 excellent long players in a hectic 2 year period culminating in this excellent set. Now remastered by original producer Jeff Glixman & with all original artwork again & 2 "bonus" tracks, this cd should be in every rock fan's collection. You won't be disapointed.

5 stars Among classicals
I was some 11 years old, in 1978, when I had first this album – from Hungarian Public Radio (don't forget, it was at that time when communist government reigned at its top!). While listening to Point of Know Return, I wished I remained forever near to the speakers of my antediluvian tape-recorder. During these past 30 years I have discovered millions of albums, I've been attracted mainly by classical works but this work has never been set aside.
