| | City On A Hill: Sing Alleluia CD (1 Customer Review)
The 2002 Essential Records project City on a Hill: Sing Alleluia serves as the follow-up album to City on a Hill: Songs of Praise and Worship, which was released in 2000. Featuring a stellar lineup of artists, including Third Day's Mac Powell, Jennifer Knapp, FFH, Caedmon's Call, and Jars of Clay, City on a Hill: Sing Alleluia builds upon, and ultimately surpasses, the beauty and craftsmanship of its predecessor. Acoustic praise & worship in style and arrangement, the album reflects careful artistic choices in duets, pairing such voices as Knapp and Powell in the album's first radio single, "Sing Alleluia!" Thematically, the project focuses on the holiness and comfort of God in its songs, including Nichole Nordeman's "Holy Is Your Name" and Jars of Clay's "The Comforter Has Come." Joined in artistry and purpose, City on a Hill: Sing Alleluia" is best captured in a quote made by Caedmon Call's Cliff Young in an interview with Essential Records: "...(A)ll of these artists coming together to sing...it's an amazing thing. The purpose is to show listeners that we all have one faith in Jesus Christ. We worship the same God and share a talent, so we come together to play together and sing together and worship God together. That's a community, and that's what makes City on a Hill unique." ~ Ashleigh Kittle
Digitally remastered using HDCD technology.

| | Damien Jurado Where Shall You Take Me? CD (2003)
City On A Hill: Sing Alleluia
$10.59 Arriving just a year after the surprisingly eclectic and electric rock of I Break Chairs, Damien Jurado's Where Shall You Take Me? is something of a return -- but not a retreat -- to the moody minimalism of albums like Ghost of David. Songs like "Amateur Night" and "Omaha" share the acoustic strumming and rustic, shuffling rhythms of his earlier work, but also have a subtly polished confidence that brings out the warmth in Jurado's singing and playing as never before. The country and folk elements always present in his music come to the fore on "Abilene" and "Window," which, with its sweet, close harmonies, borrows equally from the traditions of bluegrass and hymns. A devotional thread runs through Where Shall You Take Me?, particularly on its second half, where "I Can't Get Over You" and "Tether" contrast love's complexities with deceptively simple melodies and arrangements. Overall, the album is less challenging than ...

| | Michael Olson Where Fear And Faith Collide CD (2007)
City On A Hill: Sing Alleluia
$10.15 Where Fear and Faith Collide saw Michael Olson prove his musical chops, two years after his debut album on Rocketown received a warm welcome from Christian radio. The album leaves the door open for more musical experimentation on future releases, yet Olson deviates very little from his formula. For this reason, Olson was criticized for not taking more creative liberties and sounding too much like the adult contemporary pop/rock of MercyMe and Steven Curtis Chapman. Yet, lyrically and musically, the album celebrates leaps of faith. Olson seems more confident that his acoustic-based pop has found a devoted following. He takes charge with steadier rock tracks like "If You Can Stop the World" and "God Is with Us," the latter of which soars ...
| | Moody Mammoth Tusk 1 CD (2008)
City On A Hill: Sing Alleluia
$16.45 Moody Mammoth's inaugural CD, Tusk 1 is a sonic assault of well constructed electronic beats, soaring classical instrumentation and refined storylines / vocals. "Because", a feature track on Tusk 1, shares San Diego's Sonic Boom Set list with Jeff Buckley, Coldplay, Bjork and Radiohead. Tusk 1 was borne out of a musical exploration embarked upon by longtime collaborators, Rolando Macrini and Stefano Zazzera. They began in February 2007 with a curiosity of what the interplay of classical instruments and programming might produce. Macrini and Zazzera started experimenting with sounds and realtime processing. Next, they layered their riffs with live drums, percussion, and later, alternative strings, in the form of the Strum Stick played by Cristofer Lovrin. Kevin McWha Steele entered the picture uplifting ...
