In the four years following the release of 1998's SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE, Alanis Morissette went far afield from music, dabbling in film (DOGMA), TV (SEX & THE CITY) and stage (THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES). Her return to the studio found the older and wiser former child star hooking up with her old band along with a number of superstar guests. Sharing the same confessional approach towards songwriting as musical brethren Natalie Imbruglia and Fiona Apple, Morissette delves into personal experiences with ex-lovers ("Narcissus" featuring Flea), new ones (the soaring "Surrendering"), and feelings of insecurity ("So Unsexy" featuring Me'shell N'Degeocello).
Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo and former Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery lend their talents to the yearning of "Precious Illusions." Best of all is the uplifting closer "Utopia," an anthem of hope that combines the spiritually focused Canadian's ethereal vocal phrasing with lush string arrangements and trilling acoustic guitar. Despite being weighted in a good deal of introspection, Morissette's third outing finds her deftly avoiding any hint of pretentiousness or self-absorption.

I was so looking forward to hearing more wonderful instrumentals and hearing how she had grown over the last years lyrically, but I was disappointed with a lot of the album. Song 1, 9, 10 and 11, however, do have lyrical merit for me. Positive without being boppy, she is able to bring out the good while still expressing yourself soulfully.
Instrumentally this was another wonderful album. Kudos for Songs 9, 10 and 11. Beautiful.

It seemed Alanis had disappeared altogether, and then, the next moment she resurrects herself as if she was never gone. This album has the power like that of her second album.
This album marks the sign of the times. It's a must have.

 It's ok but not worth the money
I personally don't like this cd. If you're looking for jagged little pill like angst, you won't find it here. Over all this lacks personality. Just songs that were written in a ten second manner.

GREAT ALBUM!!!!
this album is probably considered worse than supposed former infatuation junkie but i think people need to stop comparing her albums to jagged little pill cuz all her albums show a different side of her and are all as good as jagged little pill and under rug swept is no exepction! i give this 5 stars it is awsome!
