Cannibal Corpse have received a lot of attention and controversy over the years for their song titles alone. But aside from all the over-the-top gross outs of the band's lyrics, the music is really worth checking out. Their relentless combination of neck-snapping death metal beats, sinister detuned guitar riffs, and Cookie Monster vocals is harrowing and fun at the same time, and the execution is better than that of most similar bands. Most impressively, the album remains interesting from front to back, thanks to concise song lengths and a healthy variety of tempos, which alternate from rat-tat-tat machine gun-style onslaughts to chugging mid-tempo mosh sections (check out "Dormant Bodies Bursting" to hear it all in one song). And don't forget about those great song titles; fans won't be disappointed with numbers like "Hatchet to the Head," "Compelled to Lacerate," and the exquisite "Sanded Faceless." This is great stuff. Includes a Metallica cover hidden at the end. ~ Andy Hinds
Contains an untitled hidden track following "Grotesque".
Recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios, El Paso, Texas.

CMJ (3/4/02, p.14) - "...the aural equivalent of watching an outstandingly sloppy brain surgery....deathfully delicious..." hatchet to your head This cd and gallery of suicide are my favorite cannibal corpse cds.Its totally brutal through the whole cd.the guitarists are some of the best and you can't get any better screams or growls than from the old corpsegrinder himself.Best songs are hatchet to the head, dormant bodies bursting, grotesque, when death replaces life, savage, mutation, and theres an awsome remake of metallicas no remorse.Id buy it just for that song alone. slipknot couldn't carry cannibal corpses luggage don't be discouraged by someone saying that cannibal corpse is the next best thing to slipknot. us real metalheads know that slipknot is not even close to being as good of a band as cannibal corpse. this cd is supurb all the way from beginning to end. it doesn't have a bad song on it. brutal cannibal corpse the best thing next tp slipknot? please....cc blows slipknot in all aspects slipknot is just some whiny rap with gutars and mick and james cant play worth a crap. jack and pat are yet more rippers in death metal and this cd might not be the most extreme of death metal, but for somebody whos just starting to listen to this kind of music they are a great band Submitted by XxNeedled 24 7xX (lakeland, fla) Was This Review Helpful? An Interesting Twist In This Album That Most Don't Know!!!! What I'm talking about is the recording on this album. It is what is called a HDCD (high definition cd) You won't notice any differance in the clarity unless you play it on Windows Media Player or a very fine home theatre (play it with your DVD player) On your computer look above the play button you'll see an "HDCD" come up when you play this disc but not with your other music. Some have said that the recording on this album sucks and I thought it did to at first. But then I played it on my home theatre system with the ability to get abundant bass and my reciever is DTS high def. and all the sudden this was like another cd all together. Gore Obsessed
$9.69 For album number nine, Wretched Spawn, Cannibal Corpse continue on with much the same style of gore-themed death metal that had made them a mainstay of the stateside scene for a decade-and-a-half. Bassist Alex Webster and guitarist Jack Owen write most of the songs here, respectively, and those songs are pretty much what you've come to expect from Cannibal Corpse by this point -- musically pulverizing and lyrically unsettling. Vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" ...

| | Chad Makela Flicker CD (2005)
Gore Obsessed
$15.89 Although the instrumentation of baritonist Chad Makela's pianoless quartet may lead one to think of Gerry Mulligan, the music performed by these modern musicians is closer to that of Ornette Coleman. The "free bop" music sometimes uses chord changes, but the improvisations are never tied strictly to bebop or a predictable running of changes. The interplay between the four players is consistently impressive. Makela ...

| | Diana Pops CD (2006)
Gore Obsessed
$18.99 BioDiana Pops has a gift. It sounds cliché, but it really does seem like the only way to explain the prodigious talent of this young singer / songwriter and the way she arrived on the indie music scene in Canada. At 16 years of age, Diana had a pretty typical teenagers life: school, friends, hobbies, baby sitting gig for the neighbor. There were a couple of noteworthy exceptions. One of her hobbies, songwriting, had already produced hundreds of songs. And her regular baby sitting job was for the family of an award winning album producer. (Hmmm…what’s going to happen next?*)As the story goes, the producer was working on an album for a two time Juno award winner, and they were a song short. Diana, (who is actually quite shy and not given to aggressive self-promotion), cranked up her courage and handed him a tape of three of her songs. Both the producer and the artist were immediately captivated by a song of Diana’s called “Subtle Shiver”, and they promptly added it to the album. The artist and producer happen to own an independent record label. They were so taken with Diana’s giftedness as a songwriter and singer that they signed her to a contract to make an introductory EP. Her self titled debut was released on March 12, 2006. Diana has just completed a cross Canada tour as the special guest of Steve Bell. Bell, winner of multiple Juno’s and numerous industry awards, says “There is a beauty and maturity about Diana’s songwriting that belies her youth. She is the real deal – the keeper ...
