Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, Timothy Carhart
Director Ivan Reitman
Producer Joe Medjuck

When Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murrary) and his Columbia University colleagues (Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson) are kicked out of their prestigious academic posts, they start a private practice as professional ghost-catchers. Although the three parascientists are idle for awhile, their television advertisements finally pay off when beautiful Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) contracts them. It seems her apartment has become the entryway for ghastly ghosts and goofy ghouls hellbent on terrorizing New York City. Soon they're going to her rescue, trying to rid the city of the slimy creatures. GHOSTBUSTERS hit US screens in June of 1984 and went on to become one of the most successful comedy films of all time, spawning a sequel and a popular animated series.

The screenplay for "Ghostbusters," written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, is said to take its premise from the Michael Winner-Jeffery Konvitz' 1977 feature film "The Sentinel."

Ghostbusters Reviews:

"...It's Murray's picture, as the popular comedian deadpans, ad libs and does an endearing array of physical schtick....Weaver is deliciously sexy..." -- Lor., Variety

"GHOSTBUSTERS is still a rounded, rousing entertainment." -- Andy Webster, Premiere

"What turned GHOSTBUSTERS into a classic was director Ivan Reitman's ability to stir genuine ghoulish scares into the clever dialogue and funny bits." -- Paul S. Katz, Entertainment Weekly

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "An 80s phenomenon and classic comedy, with Bill Murray upstaging everything in his path..."Premiere

5 stars One of the best comedies of all time.
There wasn't a dull/un-funny moment in this movie, from the libray scene at the beginning to Mr. Stay Puft. Whenever I watch it, it still gives me a good laugh. If you appreciate good comedy, I recommend this item.

It's an oldie, but a goodie. I love it, and the my kids love it. Rick Moranis, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are hilarious. Great music, effects, and a zany storyline bring it all together.

Kind of Blue isn't merely an artistic highlight for Miles Davis, it's an album that towers above its peers, a record generally considered as the definitive jazz album, a universally acknowledged standard of excellence. Why does Kind of Blue posses such a mystique? Perhaps because this music never flaunts its genius. It lures listeners in with the slow, luxurious bassline and gentle piano chords of "So What." From that moment on, the record never really changes pace -- each tune has a similar relaxed feel, as the music flows easily. Yet Kind of Blue is more than easy listening. It's the pinnacle of modal jazz -- tonality and solos build from the overall key, not chord changes, giving the music a subtly shifting quality. All of this doesn't quite explain why seasoned jazz fans return to this record even after they've memorized every nuance. They return because this is an exceptional band -- Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb -- one of the greatest in history, playing at the peak of its power. As Evans said in the original liner notes for the record, the band did not play through any of these pieces prior to recording. Davis laid out the themes before the tape rolled, and then the band improvised. The end results were wondrous and still crackle with vitality. Kind of Blue works

Gerald Wilson Detroit CD  (2009)

Ghostbusters review
CD $14.69  5 stars Top 100 Audio Samples
Audio Mixer: Todd Whitelock.

Detroit comprises a six-composition suite commissioned for the 2009 thirtieth anniversary Detroit International Jazz Festival, played in the studio with musicians from composer/arranger Gerald Wilson's Los Angeles home or New York City area. Curiously, there are no Motor City-based players on the disc, but the themes are based in certain locales from the industrial Midwestern City that has fallen on hard economic times but played a pivotal role in the development of Wilson's highly developed skills as a composer, arranger, and bandleader. A quite spirited and energetic music is heard here from the 90-year-old Wilson, whose charm and wit would rival anyone many decades his junior. It's a swinging affair molded in the traditional big-band visage of Count Basie, Ernie Wilkins, or early Quincy Jones, with Wilson's deft touch for embellishing the blues. Players like trumpeter Sean Jones, son/guitarist Anthony Wilson, violinist Yvette Devereaux, the fine pianist Brian O'Rourke, and particularly L.A. alto saxophonist and flutist Randall Willis or Kamasi Washington on tenor sax, spice up the band's ensemble and solo contributions. The suite begins with "Blues on Belle Isle," a bopping tribute to the riverside playground and picnic area Detroiter's depend on to relax and escape from their troubles. The vaunted school for many jazz legends over the years, a dedication to "Cass Tech" is based on the changes of Benny Golson's "Along Came Betty," and swings along quite nicely with a reharmonized melody. The title track is a ballad for the sprawling metropolis that reflects both its jewels and rundown buildings, while "Before Motown" is a regal and tough Spanish-flavored piece, and the finale "The Detroit River" goes from hard bop right into solos, with Jones as the strongman. In the middle is "Miss Gretchen" for Mack Avenue founder and festival financial supporter Gretchen Valade; it's a midtempo swinger reflecting Charl

Jean-Luc Ponty Enigmatic Ocean CD  (1977)

CD $8.39  3.8 stars Top 500 Audio Samples Definitive Album
Live Recording Personnel: Jean-Luc Ponty (electric violin, violectra, bells, piano); Allan Zavod (piano, electric piano, clavinet, organ, synthesizer); Allan Holdsworth, Daryl Stuermer (electric guitar); Ralphe Armstrong (electric bass); Steve Smith (drums, percussion).
Recorded in June and July, 1977.
Consistently imaginative, Enigmatic Ocean is one of Jean-Luc Ponty's finest accomplishments. The French violinist recorded his share of fusion gems during the 1970s, and this album is at the top of the list. Often aggressive but sometimes reflective and moody, this CD is as unpredictable as it is adventurous. Ponty has plenty of room to stretch out, let loose, and blow, and electric guitarists Allan Holdsworth and Daryl Stuermer contribute some inspired solos as well. Also quite impressive is the insightful and passionate drumming of Steve Smith, who went on to lead the superb fusion band Vital Information. Ponty takes one risk after another, and all of them pay off beautifully. ~ Alex Henderson
Arguably Jean-Luc Ponty's finest record, ENIGMATIC OCEAN benefits from the two-pronged attack of Ponty's engrossing violin playing and guitarist Allan Holdsworth's equally majestic command of his own six-string and its accompanying devices. Compositionally, the tracks move from fast and furious fusion to moments of blissful restraint.
The lovely "Nostalgic Lady" features Holdsworth in peak form, coloring in the foreground with pastel shades of guitar synth, while former Journey drummer Steve Smith caresses Ponty's sultry violins with graceful strokes to cymbal and snare. The multi-part title track soars on spacey beds of synthesizer, guitar, and drums. As Ponty's rhythmic foil, Smith has never been better, and reveals himself as one of the finest drummers to have emerged from '70s fusion. Enigmatic arrangements and enigmatic playing make Ponty's OCEAN the perfect balm for mind and soul.

Ghostbusters movie DVD
DVD $15.69
Bop saxophonist Dexter Gordon headlines this live concert filmed at San Francisco's Maintenance Shop in 1979 with bassist Rufus Reid, drummer Eddie Gladen, and pianist George Cables. Selections include "Polka Dots and Moonbeams," "Tanya," and "On Green Dolphin Street." NTSC/Region 0. Considered one of the very first Bebop tenor saxophonists, Dexter Gordon began playing clarinet at the tender age of seven. By the time he was fifteen the precocious tenorist had already played in bands with Chico Hamilton and Buddy Collette! He formed part of the Lionel Hampton and Louis Armstrong orchestras in the early forties, and joined the Billy Eckstine band and recorded with Charlie Parker in 1945. Gordon possessed a very distinctive and profound sound. Some of the best-remembered moments of his superlative career were his tenor battles with fellow tenor saxophonist Wardell Gray from 1947 to 1952 and his leading role as an actor in the film 'Round Midnight in 1986, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. The performance included on this DVD showcases Gordon's many talents in an intimate quartet setting at San Francisco's Maintenance Shop; a club that also witnessed one of the last filmed performances by pianist Bill Evans. Dexter is heard on three extended tunes. ImproJazz.
