| | Nick Lowe Convincer CD - Import Nick Lowe Discography of CDs
The soft, soulful side that former rabble-rouser Nick Lowe began inching towards on 1990's PARTY OF ONE, and followed through on throughout the decade, reaches its apex on THE CONVINCER. With a lived-in crooning style whose softness belies the lyrics' emotional turmoil, Lowe drags his heart over the coals on songs that encompass '60s R&B, country, and even Bacharach-style pop. From the romantic desperation of the Johnny Cash-like romp "Has She Got a Friend?" to the broken-hearted soul plaint "I'm a Mess" and Sam Cooke-on-a-bender "Cupid Must be Angry," Lowe clearly takes delight in fashioning eloquent, period-perfect statements of lovelorn distress. Though upbeat tunes are scarce here, Lowe's inherent good-natured gestalt and luxurious tones keep THE CONVINCER from getting bogged down in its own despair. Instead, it offers the opportunity to marvel at the emotional depth and peerless popcraft of a master whose next album must surely be a rocker, since this one brings things down about as far as they can go.

$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists who have contributed to smooth jazz (including George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Chuck Loeb, and Henry Johnson). Musically, a lot has changed since the '60s, but the more things change in music, the more they inevitably stay the same -- and 2009 found White (like Montgomery 41, 42, and 43 years earlier) still struggling with a desire to improvise and a desire for mass acceptance (the thing that jazz, for the most part, lost after World War II). Of course, one doesn't ...
| | Tord Gustavsen Ground CD (2005)
Convincer songs
$14.05 In the proto-typical Scandinavian ECM style of modern jazz oriented music, pianist Tord Gustavsen follows the path of previous progenitors influenced by Bill Evans, forged by Keith Jarrett, and extended by the likes of Mike Nock. This is certainly late-night, nocturnal music, completely reserved ...

WHEN I LOOK IN YOUR EYES, a 1999 Verve release, heralds the return of the cool and groovy Latin-tinged jazz of the '60s. Upon hearing the opening track, a bossa-nova-fied version of Irving Berlin's "Let's Face The Music And Dance," one might think he had accidentally put on a Getz/Gilberto record. In fact, it's hard to avoid comparing Krall's breathy ...
| | Rabih Abou-Khalil Roots & Sprouts CD (1994)
Convincer music CDs
$13.25 In a satisfying stylistic experiment, Lebanese composer and oud player Rabih Abou-Khalil has decided to put together an album of jazz numbers with no Western instruments other than Glen Moore's standup bass. There is Yassin El-Achek on violin, but the violin is almost as much a Middle Eastern instrument as a Western one. El-Achek usually remains in the Middle Eastern style of playing, but occasionally, as on ...

$6.69 So, you might say to your friends, “Well, I’m not certain what the newest LOST AND FOUND album is, but it is definitely Something.” Let us give you some of our perspectives on what Something is about.Something needs to be sung. Many bands have songs, or whole albums, about their life on the road. In our case, that would not make a very interesting album. Track 1: Woke Up, Then Showered. Track 2: Tried To Find Starbucks. Track 3: Drove All Day. Track 4: Met Concert Hosts and Concert Goers. Ahh! Now, that’s Something: the people who touch our lives.Something needs you. If we had an album about life on the road, it wouldn’t be about our life on the road. Rather, it would be about our life with you on this road we travel together. Without the folks who buy our albums, send us e-mails, and attend our concerts, there would be no life on the road because we’d just stay home and listen to “Running On Empty” ...

Convincer music CDs
$11.39 From the liner notes...We are very excited to release this CD of holiday music. Our goal is to present music that is both familiar and pleasing in new, exciting and interesting (dare we say clever!) ways. All of the arrangements are the brainchild of our good friend David Gilliland. The styles are a fusion of both traditional and contemporary jazz and classical music - often sharply juxtaposed. While most of the tracks on this album rely on the foundation of the brass quintet, several utilize percussion, bass, flute and vocals to broaden the the timbral palette. The music ranges from the traditional, such as 'Low How Rose E'er Bloometh', through big-band jazz like 'Santa Baby', to modern treatments of carols, such as 'Do You Hear What I Hear?'. We hope you enjoy this music as much as we enjoyed ...
