Searching for a way to retool their sound, Judas Priest attempted to accentuate their melodic side on Turbo by incorporating synthesizers and '80s pop-metal stylings ("Wild Nights, Hot & Crazy Days" sounds more like Poison, albeit with synths). The restrained songcraft sometimes pays dividends, especially on the synth-driven leadoff track, "Turbo Lover," easily the best song on the record and a successful reimagining of the Priest formula. ~ Steve Huey

The restrained songcraft sometimes pays dividends, especially on the synth-driven leadoff track, "Turbo Lover," easily the best song on the record and a successful reimagining of the Priest formula. But often, the band simply sounds directionless, unsure of exactly which path to accessibility it should follow; moreover, the synth-guitar backing and overly polished production give the album an oddly mechanized, processed feel. It certainly doesn't help most of the material, which is often at least competent but rarely inspired enough to make much of an impression. That's unfortunate because Turbo's best moments indicate that with a clearer focus, the album could have been a creative success; however, it's overall Judas Priest's weakest release since Rocka Rolla. ~ Steve Huey
After seeing the chart success that such acts as Van Halen and Motley Crue were enjoying with their melodic hard rock sound, Judas Priest decided to give it a shot with their 1986 release, TURBO. While it performed respectably on the charts, TURBO wasn't the big smash Priest hoped for, and it left many longtime fans puzzled as to the whereabouts of the old lethal Priest.
The presence of synthesizers can be heard throughout the album, while such tracks as the opening "Turbo Lover," "Locked In," and "Parental Guidance" would prove to be highlights. The band would subsequently wisely return to their familiar ultra-metal direction.

4 stars Turbo!
Judas Priest went to a more commercial look and sound. The sound actually works VERY well. Synthesized guitars mixed with real guitars as well as Rob Halford's scream vocals is a final conclusion of original sounding heavy metal. Now, the look is just like any other band at the time and I think us metal fans should cut these guys some slack cause to us now it all seems stupid but at the time it was the buisness. All the tracks are fantastic and the live version of "Locked In" brings the cd to a great close. I recomend this cd and don't get caught up in the mass attitude of, IT MUST BE METAL! ALL THE WAY! Music is freedom my friends and people who put rules on it are only trying to control it for they're own benefit.

4 stars Open your eyes and ears, this album ROCKS
So tired of hearing all the negatives about this album.. This was the one that got me into JP in the first place. I have happily discovered their earlier stuff and enjoy it all but this is still at least a tie for first place with defenders of the faith. 18 years later, the only songs that stick out as weak to me are Parental guidance and Rock you all around the world. You simply will not hear a better metal song than Reckless. This may have been a change in direction for Judas Priest, but it is FAR from being the stinker it has been labelled time and time again.

3 stars only a 4 cylinder
Well the mighty Priest took its' foot off of the accelerator and released the most "80's" sounding album of their illustrious career. 5 of the 9 originals are worthy of the name with 4 being regrettable throwaways (tell me "parental guidance" EVER should have been recorded let alone released). Too commercial overall, Turbo does sport some 'tude on classic metal meteors such as the title cut, "Reckless", & Locked In" but this is no "Hell Bent For Leather" let me tell you. If you're wondering about the extra cut on the remastered version of this, "Fired Up" is one smokin' cut eclipsing much, if not all, of the original album. Some of the extra cuts were hit or miss on the remasters but like "Race With The Devil" off of Sin After Sin, Fired Up is well worth hearing & owning. The record company knew what they were doing by inserting one the best previously unreleased tracks onto one of Priest's weakest efforts. All in all, Preiest at their worst is still better than most and this is worth owning for nostalgia and the occasional time travel back to the 80's. Turbo-charged? Nah, this thing barely has a 100 HP 4 cyclinder but it will still take you from here to there.

4 stars Great Priest album!!!
Not as good as their earlier work like Defenders of the faith or point of entry but its still a great metal album. This album isnt pop, and its far from it! This is real metal! If you thiunk this is pop ,why dont you just go buy some disturbed or slipknot..your all nu metal fans anyways! This may have synthesizers on a few songs(most dont use them) but that hardly makes this CD pop! Heavy riffs, strong vocal, and great atmosphere make this one great. Best trax are Turbo lover,Parental Guidance, and Rock You All Around The World!!!

5 stars Yes, it was an experiment...
& it wasn't bad. Giving in to the current trend back then turned out pretty good. Mostly all the songs had good hooks & great riffs. It was about growing up & being wild. For anyone who was in that stage (like me), it was & still is a great anthem album.

The last quality album from Judas Priest's commercial period, Defenders of the Faith doesn't quite reach the heights of British Steel or Screaming for Vengeance, in part because it lacks a standout single on the level of those two records' best material. That said, even if there's a low percentage of signature songs here, there's a remarkably high percentage ...

Brenda HarpBiographyS h e S i n g s H e r H e a r t O u tYou may have heard her voice on the airwaves. In the Rocky Mountain region and beyond, she's a juggling mom, singing, "I'm lovin' it" for a McDonald's jingle, and she has vocally appeared with original background songs in numerous episodes of NBC reality TV shows during prime time. Over the past decade, the deeply worshipful song "Messiah," among other tunes she either penned or covered, is played on Christian radio stations and included in worship compilation CD's nationwide. Now you can know the artist by name.Brenda Harp is an accomplished singer, songwriter, worship leader, and teacher. Her carefully crafted lyrics tell quite a bit about the artist behind the music. The depth of feeling that emanates from her songs cause listeners to want to know more about Brenda Harp as an artist. Her talent is pure and refined, yet she is always seeking new avenues of expression, new ways to grow musically. She is an intelligent soul, a delight to be around. She can balance the serious with playfulness and can draw the listener in completely with her compelling words. She mixes the mysterious with transparency well, building both personal and universal appeal into her lyrics. Brenda explores the many facets of life experience in her lyrics: unconditional love, loss, hope, healing, questioning, faith, listening, expressing the truth. Her insightful lyrics can cause the listener to question, ponder, feel encouraged, lifted, be filled with hope and confidence in our Creator. After a show, the listener is left wanting to hear more. Touching listener's hearts with her music fuels and inspires Brenda, creating a connection between people that only music can make. Her songs even inspired a line of hand-made greeting cards, with some available at www.jennarations.com."Brenda's musical roots lie in her upbringing, coming from a very musical mid-western family. She wrote her first song when she was eight, and started performing her original songs at age 14. At John Brown University, where she earned an Education Degree, she won first prize in the school talent show. After graduation, she relocated to Portland, Oregon, and spent 6 years there teaching elementary school and continuing to write original tunes. Next stop was Denver, Colorado. It was in Denver where her musical career as a performer and recording artist really flourished. She soared in the worship ministry of Crossroads Church in Denver, which led to many collaborations and the recording of her debut CD, The Road Home. Her involvement with Calvary Chapel Music gave her a place to contribute her talent, and also ...
