Cross LA BOHÈME with CABARET, throw in a little bit of RENT, and you might almost begin to describe Baz Luhrmann's visually opulent, fast-paced, funny, heartrending MOULIN ROUGE. The film, which premiered as the opener to the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, is a musical set in 1899 Paris at the notorious Montmartre cabaret club, the Moulin Rouge. Directed by Luhrmann (WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO AND JULIET, STRICTLY BALLROOM), the movie stars Nicole Kidman as the high-kicking courtesan, Satine; Ewan McGregor as the sensitive poet, Christian; and John Leguizamo as the flamboyant artist and matchmaker, Toulouse-Lautrec. Luhrmann's use of eclectic lighting and saturated color, the fast zooms and quick cuts of his camera, and his magnificent costumes and sets perfectly capture the excess and freneticism for which the Moulin Rouge was famous. Beautifully led by McGregor and Kidman, the flawless supporting cast brings to life the culture of belle époque Paris with magical realism. Above all, the anachronistic, energetic contemporary soundtrack is what drives MOULIN ROUGE, with popular songs by L'il Kim, Christina Aguilera, David Bowie, and Beck--as well as Kidman and McGregor adding their own superb vocals. Spectacular Spectacular! I purchased Moulin Rouge recently on iTunes, and enjoyed every second of it. I understand some people may not understand the film, it is a very eclectic, artistically done piece. You'll laugh, cry, and want to watch it again, and again. Plus, seeing Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in such a sweet paring as Christian and Satine is really nice! Submitted by ammoro.amavero (Staten Island, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
More than words can say! This is not only a hilarious and joyful movie, it always gives you a sense of emotion. This is definitely one of the best musical movies I've ever seen! Too good to be true, I love this movie. Submitted by Flora (Toronto, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Nicole is stunning It took me a few times of watching this movie to really enjoy it, I had a hard time of the incorporation of modern music to old themes but I have since come around to really appreciate Baz's vision. Cor Blimey! Fantastic film from Baz. I was a little concerned regarding the singing voices of the two stars but they pull it off magnificently. The film is enhanced by Craig Armstrong who is surely the greatest composer of film music at present.
I bought it from the States as it's not due to be released here in England until May.
I saw the film at the Cinema last summer and was reticent about going at first as I thought it maybe too much of a "chick flick" for me. I'm glad my girlfriend persuaded me to go. I loved every minute.
A camp classic which also has Kylie in it! What more can I say?

$23.39 After nearly two decades of successful detours into mature thrillers (THE GIFT, A SIMPLE PLAN) and superhero blockbusters (the Spider-Man series), director Sam Raimi returns--full tilt--to his scrappy horror roots with DRAG ME TO HELL. Alison Lohman stars as Christine Brown, a soft-spoken Southern girl with a good heart, a PhD-toting boyfriend (Justin Long), and a job as a loan officer at a bank just outside of Los Angeles. When evicting a vile and negligent old woman named Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) seems to be the only way to secure an important promotion, Christine pushes her moral flexibility about as far as it can go (not very far at all) only to dearly pay the price as the recipient of a rather nasty curse. The next three days of Christine’s life amount to an unimaginable endurance test in which she is subject to physical and psychological torture while a terrifying demon draws ever closer to take her to hell, where she would burn for eternity.
Raimi manages to keep the feverish awfulness of DRAG ME's central concept palpable while layering on his distinctly disturbing and exhilaratingly kinetic macabre-meets-slapstick portraiture, and the result is an efficient celebration of the art of horror movies that’s campy, scary, and fun. Similar to HBO’s classic TALES FROM THE CRYPT series, HELL feels like a living, breathing EC comic. While it may come as a minor shock that Bruce Campbell, the beloved mouthpiece of the EVIL DEAD franchise, is nowhere to be found in this unabashed horror-comedy, Christine is an excellent twist on Raimi's genre-hero archetype. Fans will get a kick out of seeing her inexplicably leave her gob agape as putrid projectiles pour in, and hearing her, after a bit of pushing, spout a Campbell-ism or two ("I’m gonna get me some!").

Moulin Rouge review
$36.99 Developed by Bruce Geller, creator of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, this long-running detective series was known for its over-the-top fistfights, inventive title sequence, and swinging theme song. After quitting Intertect to launch his own detective agency in the second season, gumshoe Joe Mannix (Mike Connors) continues to do things the old-fashioned way: with a little boot leather and a punch to the gut. Helping him make the transition are his faithful secretary, Peggy Fair (Gail Fisher), and some of the city's helpful boys in blue. Included here is every episode of the series' third season.

$15.15 Director Michael Bay (ARMAGEDDON, THE ROCK) uses a tragic romantic triangle to set the stage for the infamous Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in this epic tale of love, loss, and patriotism. When Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale), a beautiful Navy nurse, meets dashing ace Army fighter pilot Rafe (Ben Affleck), the two fall madly in love, only to be separated abruptly when he is called upon to help fight the war in Europe. Unforeseen circumstances lead Evelyn into the arms of Danny (Josh Hartnett), another fighter pilot and Rafe's best friend since childhood. In the meantime, the Japanese military is planning the surprise early morning raid on Hawaii that will pull the United States into World War II. Spectacular special effects vividly recreate the attack in devastating detail as bombs explode, torpedoes shoot through the water, and bullets fly, shaking tranquil Pearl Harbor to its core. Bay deftly captures the patriotism and the loss of innocence of the young men and women who were suddenly thrust into the war. Cuba Gooding, Jr., Jon Voight, Alec Baldwin and Mako also star in this tribute to both the fallen and the survivors of one of the most horrific tragedies ever to occur on American soil.
Rafe and Danny are childhood friends who both dream of flying. As the world becomes embroiled in World War II in the early 1940's, Rafe and Danny sign on with the United States armed forces. Eager to participate in combat, Rafe is compelled to join the British air fight against the Nazis, leaving his girlfriend, beautiful army nurse Evelyn behind. When Evelyn and Danny are transferred to the military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, they hear the new that Rafe has been shot down and killed. Hoping to move on after grieving, Danny and Evelyn find themselves in love. When Rafe returns alive, the three find themselves in an uncomfortable personal situation that is soon engulfed by th
