THE WAY I FEEL was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album.
"Take A Message" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance."Rocksteady" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance.
In contemporary music, timing is crucial. 1996 was a perfect moment for neo-soul artist Maxwell to be hailed as the next Prince, especially at a point when His Royal Badness alienated his most loyal fans with eccentricities. As history would have it, R&B fans, weary of bland beats and stale samples were hungry for something fresh and earthy in 2002. Four years in the making, THE WAY I FEEL is the Motown debut of one twenty-three year old Canadian Remy Shand, and his arrival challenges industry convention in the nick of time. The self-taught singer/songwriter/producer and multi-instrumentalist has effectively culled the sound and feel of classic soul; echoes of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder are paid homage with vintage instrumentation and warm production. From the Memphis vibe of "I Met Your Mercy" to the slow jazz of "Liberate," Shand connects with his influences from the heart. The plinky, imperfectly tuned acoustic piano in "Burnin' Bridges" is just one of countless subtle touches that create a mood devoid of digital sterility. Vocally, Remy Shand glides easily from a Prince-like tenorino to his more natural and comfortable mid-range. Most importantly, THE WAY I FEEL is a study in the virtue of song; a musical art that can be timeless and without boundaries.

Remy Shand Way I Feel Songs Way I Feel Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Worth listening to! I really enjoy listening to this CD. Some of it reminds me of the early Simply Red days. The music and the rhythm is kickin. It's worth having in your collection. Submitted by campbellk_1998 (Columbus, OH) Was This Review Helpful? Excellent!!! More than I expected and sorry that I waited over 1 year to buy this CD. I first heard it Nov 02 in Windsor, Ontario while celebrating my birthday with my boyfriend. We took a quick weekend trip from Detroit to Windsor (about 10 mintues over the bridge). But, none the less, the Detroit area radio had played one or two of the tracks and I did like them. Well it was not until the Windsor visit in a Martini bar that we heard the entire CD!! So nice, so cozy...you can chill to his music so easily!! Still I waited all this time and regret it now having my own copy. I'm sure it will be one of my all time favorites. The 1977's 2002 I like analog keyboards and synths. Imagine to go back in 1977/78 and you can have an idea of Remy and his music: not disco, but soul, slow and evocative music. Submitted by Luca (Piacenza, Italy, Europe) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Sheer Class! 23 year old Canadian Remy Shand really gets to grip with his awesome talent on this 11-track album. Considering he single handily wrote, produced and played all instruments on here I think a standing ovation is more appropriate than mere lip service. Lovers of the organic approach to modern soul music, and the real classic sounds of yesterday, will find this album nothing short of essential. I cannot fault this album at all ? there are nods to the Memphis sound of Al Green, the funk of the Average White Band and even a slight flavour of late 70?s jazz-fusion. If forced to pick a track or two for highlighting, I would point you in the direction of ?Take A Message? and ?Looking Back On Vanity?. I believe that this young man will go very far if he is allowed to ? but today?s hit orientated, tired formulaic corporate culture does strangle this ? and should earn Motown / Universal a lot of respect from those who are truly connoisseurs of excellent, real music and artistry. In short, simply breathtaking and one of THE definitive and must-have soul / R&B releases of 2002. Submitted by a reviewer (Hampshire, United Kingdom) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
