Fiona Shaw, Iain Glen, James Villers, John Savident, Patrick Bergen, Richard E. Grant - Director: Bob Rafelson In the 1850's two British officers, Captain Richard Burton and Lieutenant John Speke, set out on a spectacular adventure to discover the source of the Nile. They are warned that great dangers await them, but against all odds they push on deeper and deeper into the magnificent, untamed African wilderness, where no western man has ever gone. As the difficult journey takes its toll, Burton and Speke forge a strong bond--a bond that will eventually be broken by betrayal. History will be the judge as the two intrepid explorers venture into realms perilous to both body MOUNTAIN OF THE MOON, directed by Bob Rafelson, is a portrait of two 19th-century British explorers, Richard Francis Burton and John Hanning Speke, who searched for the source of the Nile, encountering illness, loss of direction, and fierce animosity from African tribes along the way. In director Bob Rafelson's MOUNTAINS OF THE MOON, Richard Francis Burton (Patrick Bergin) and John Hanning Speke (Iain Glen), two of history's most remarkable adventurers, set out to Africa in 1854 to find the mysterious source of the Nile River, their expedition supported by the Royal Geographic Society. Their quest is treacherous--the two men face intense hardship in the African wilderness and must confront native tribes that proceed to capture them and hold Burton hostage while torturing him. Back home in England, the treachery continues as Speke turns against Burton, and their friendship dissolves in acrimony. Based on the novel BURTON AND SPEKE by William Harrison, Rafelson's film is a remarkably lush production, largely shot on the actual locations where the events occurred. Mountains Of The Moon Reviews: "...An epic of sweep and intimacy....Rousing thrills, startling beauty and searching performances..."

$10.49 Dubbed "Lust in the Dust" by Hollywood wags and, at $5 million, the most expensive film made up to that time, DUEL IN THE SUN stars Jennifer Jones as Pearl Chavez, a stunning young half-breed. After her father's death, she's taken in by distant relative Laura Belle McCanles (Lillian Gish), whose husband, Senator (Lionel Barrymore), is a Texas cattle baron of immense wealth. She soons finds herself attracted to the two McCanles sons: the magnetic hell-raiser Lewt (Gregory Peck) and the educated, restrained Jesse (Joseph Cotten). Since Pearl is presumed to have inherited her mother's hot-blooded disposition, she's tagged as a bad girl by Lewt, who quickly makes a pass at her without success. But with Jesse away on business, she and Lewt eventually become lovers, although she still can't decide which of the two she loves. Meanwhile, Senator is embroiled in a dispute over the invasion of his property by railroad interests, becoming enraged when Jesse chooses the pen over the shotgun as a negotiating tool. Saturated in sexual innuendo, this fabulously overripe, overproduced melodrama, which constantly teeters on the edge of camp, ...
