Chapters From A Vale Forlorn Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) Too fast is metal!!! Great voice is folk! A great album with the voice of Mathias, a great singer that constrasts with the speed and the drums of this power metal band. One of the best power metal bands Falconer has blown me away with this CD. Mathia Blad's voice is purely angelic and paints out the picture of renassiance before you beautifully. Coupled with the intricate weaving of a delicious symphony Chapters From A Vale Forlorn is a masterpiece. Submitted by Becky (Eugene, OR, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Very Good Follow-up I'm not (yet) as big a fan of this CD as the previous one, but it's growing on me (after just a couple of listens). Very good CD and recommended for fans of the previous CD. Submitted by a reviewer (Fairfax, VA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I had higher expectations.... After listening to this CD, my overall impression is that either they were under some pressure to record it, or they didn't have the time to really work on the arrangements. Their debut CD had such a wonderful flow to the songs, and this one sounds like they were trying to make things fit together. Unfortunately, they failed more often. Also, look at the difference in times of the CD's. Their debut was 10 songs at a total time of over 50 minutes. This one is 9 songs at barely 40 minutes. That leads me back to my first impression that they were rushed to put this together. However, on the positive side, the production is much crisper on this CD, and Mathias Blad has such a wonderfully unique and powerful voice that has gotten even better here. So, in summary even the best songs on this disc (probably The Clarion Call is the best) fall short of just about anything on their simply excellent debut. | | Blind Guardian Night At The Opera CD (2002)
Chapters From A Vale Forlorn
$13.09 Contains an untitled hidden track following " And Then There Was Silence."
Probably the most adventurous disc of Blind Guardian's career (and that's saying something with this troupe), A Night at the Opera lives up to its name by channeling Queen's most symphonic arias through a dynamic prog metal background that makes Fate's Warning's most complex licks seem positively pedestrian in comparison with a glorious production that allows every nuance to literally explode from the loudspeakers. As ambitious as this disc is, however, it is similarly difficult to digest. Everything is over the top to the nth degree; every refrain is bolstered with a chorus lifted to the heavens; every song is an overwrought epic overture of garish calls to Valhalla; every moment is a grandiose concerto. By the time you hit the bonus track ...

Chapters From A Vale Forlorn
$12.35 Josh Homme's Queens of the Stone Age have risen above the generally sound-alike stoner rock genre by virtue of their clever, intricate songwriting and virtuoso musicianship. Hanging out and recording at Rancho de la Luna Studio in Joshua Tree, CA, Homme and various musical pals have also released a series of Desert Sessions, which rely on neither the kitschy '70s references nor the recycled Sabbath riffs that their stoner rock brethren venerate. Instead, Homme and pals concoct a varied group of rich, elaborate compositions which conjure up an exotic world of gem-loaded desert caravans and opium-smoke-filled harems. Among Desert Sessions, Vol. 7-8's many fine moments is an appearance from Mark Lanegan singing on "Hanging Tree," a top-notch rock tune benefiting from Lanegan's grunge-era voice and some hypnotizing background effects. Another great smoke-out tune is "The Idiot's Guide," where Homme's whispered falsetto is particularly effective. ...
