Brad Pitt is reunited as a co-star with his A River Runs Through It (1992) director Robert Redford for this espionage thriller from Tony Scott. On the verge of retirement from the Central Intelligence Agency, veteran spy Nathan Muir (Redford) learns that his one-time protégé Tom Bishop (Pitt) has gone rogue and been taken prisoner in Beijing after attempting to smuggle a prisoner out of China. Although Muir and Bishop had once been close friends, sharing adventures from Vietnam to Berlin, bad blood and resentment developed between them, and the two men haven't seen each other in years. As his memories of their friendship come flooding back, Muir agrees to take the most dangerous mission of his career — the rescue of his old friend from a Communist jail. Spy Game (2001) co-stars Catherine McCormack as a human rights activist and Bishop's love interest. Robert Redford stars as veteran CIA agent Nathan Muir in this thriller from Tony Scott (TOP GUN, ENEMY OF THE STATE). Set in 1991, Muir expects his last day before retirement to be an easy one. Instead, he finds that his protégé, Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt), is being held on espionage charges in a Chinese prison will be executed in 24 hours. A seasoned agent, Muir has played spy games for a long time and quickly realizes that the CIA may not be acting in Bishop's best interest. Even as an agency committee is grilling Muir, he is secretly working to secure his former charge's freedom. Action-packed flashbacks establish the relationship between the two men: their first meeting during the Vietnam War, Muir's recruitment of Bishop following the war, Bishop's training and early missions in Berlin, and an important operation in Beirut. Similarly, the flashbacks trace the evolution of Bishop from an eager, brand-new agent in 1975 to a disillusioned veteran in the mid-1980s who is at odds with his mentor, Muir. This last layer of conflict adds extra suspense to SPY GAME, as Muir must decide whether to help his old friend or take the easy way out. Theatrical release: November 21, 2001 Spy Game Reviews: "...[A] tautly written, beautifully executed thriller....SPY GAME hinges on the perfect symmetry of Redford and Pitt....It's a thrill to watch here..."
-- Bill Zwecker, Chicago Sun-Times "...The film is brimming with plots, counterplot, dossiers, and sinister corrupt priorities....A stylishly moody and jacked-up cloak-and-dagger adventure..."
-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "...Mr. Scott has an eye for sharp images and cool stuff....SPY GAME is seamlessly and crisply edited..."
-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "...[SPY GAME] produces Robert Redford's most engaging performance in years..."

Spy Game Movie Review Average Rating: (2.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews I thought the Spy Game would be more exciting! For what appeared to be an exciting spy thriller, this movie was all but exciting. At the very most I'd say it's on the slow side, but don't you think Brad Pitt looks like he could be Robert Redford's son? Submitted by a reviewer (TIFFIN , IOWA 52340) Was This Review Helpful? See it for yourself Everyone knows that there isn't such a thing as a perfect review, and that no two people are going to agree exactly on anything. This having been said, all I can offer is my opinion: and it is that the other people who reviewed this movie are either cinematically slow, or just missed the movie's concept all together. Spy game was a very well made movie, from the acting right down to the editing. Pitt and Redford give very convincing performances. (Except for the noticeable age problems in the flashbacks) I think the soundtrack is an extremely crucial part of this movie...more so than any movie I've seen in a long time. It has no continuous flow throughout, but captures the mood of each scene perfectly. It's no fake, shoot-'em-up non-believable action film (like all the other reviewers seemed to want) but it is extremely entertaining. Even a bit of a thinker... Wonderful Cinema Going Adventure This movie is full of great plots twists, intelligent words that are made even better with strong performances from the cast, and a great choice in music composing. Robert Redford shines in this drama that is set in the world of international espionage. A highly recommended thriller on the same lines as High Crimes. I could not wait to get my hands on the DVD, and I was not disapoointed, only excluding the missing menu, but that is alleviated with some basic knowledge. If you want to depart away from the classic spy = death cliche this is the one for you. Submitted by a reviewer (Sydney, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
THIS WAS THE WORST DVD PURCHASE THAT I EVER MADE!! I bought this movie thinking that I was going to enjoy my self and the movie; boy was I wrong. In a matter of fact, I was depressed after seeing the film in its entirety. The movie was mostly talking and flash backs. It was a pethetic, dull, and frustrating movie. This film barely deserves one star. Fella's, the theatrical trailer is basically the whole movie so DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE!! Submitted by a reviewer (RapidCity, SD) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Thank god for the 'fast forward' button. Looked like a very exiting movie when it first came out. It seemed intelligently written and well plotted, but it was dull and completely pointless!!!
The only ones who will enjoy this movie are chicks who just wanna look at that Pitt guy.
This movie is just a big waste of time!
Even writing about it makes me sleepy... Submitted by a reviewer (Denver) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Spy Game review
$9.69 Following a spur-of-the-moment escape from an Oregon prison, macho ladies man Joe Blake (Bruce Willis) and sensitive, hypochondriac Terry Collins (Billy Bob Thornton) become the best-known thieves in the country. Deemed "The Sleepover Bandits," Joe and Terry add a twist to conventional bank robberies by taking the bank manager hostage the night before the heist and accompanying him/her to the bank first thing in the morning. With the help of Joe's cousin, Harvey J. Pollard (Troy Garity), a simple, aspiring stuntman, "The Sleepover Bandits" rob their way down to southern California with hopes of making it to Mexico. Joe and Terry's partnership and friendship is tested, however, when they each fall in love with Kate Wheeler (Cate Blanchett), an unhappy, unappreciated housewife who deems herself their hostage and ultimately finds herself attracted to both men. Directed by Barry Levinson (DINER, RAIN MAN, WAG THE DOG), this somewhat quirky comedy features fine performances from Willis, Thornton, and Blanchett and ...

$8.95 Loosely based on the 1960 Rat Pack film of the same name, OCEAN'S 11 is a hi-tech crime comedy that features a top-notch cast. Con man Danny Ocean (George Clooney) has just been released from a four-year jail term and decides that his first order of business is robbing three Las Vegas casinos owned by the slimy Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia). To pull off this nearly impossible task, he quickly assembles an eclectic crew--including a card shark (Brad Pitt), a pickpocket (Matt Damon), an explosives expert (Don Cheadle), and an aging gambler (Carl Reiner)--and seeks financial backing from a freewheeling casino mogul (Elliott Gould) who holds a grudge against Benedict. However, it soon becomes apparent that Ocean has more at stake than money and his newly found freedom--his ex-wife, Tess (Julia Roberts), just happens to be Benedict's new girlfriend. Can Ocean steal back Tess's heart and more than a hundred million dollars at the same time?
Continuing an impressive streak of films that began with OUT OF SIGHT and THE LIMEY and exploded into even wider acclaim and popularity with ERIN BROCKOVICH and TRAFFIC, Steven Soderbergh helms this star-studded caper flick with a strong sense of style and humor. Clooney and Pitt, in particular, ...
