Fast album for sale by Custom was released Mar 19, 2002 on the Artist Direct label. Having first made a splash directing the late Michael Hutchence in the film LIMP, slacker Renaissance man Custom turned his attention to creating his own personal recording studio 120 in lower Manhattan and emerging with his debut CLEAN. Fast CD music Cleaving to an eclectic path a la New Radicals founder/one-man band Gregg Alexander and Beck, Custom mixes up loops and hip-hop beats with more traditional musical nuances like acoustic guitar, drums, and Wurlitzer. The results include the clever breakout single "Hey Mister" which deals with going from picking up girls to being on the other side of the coin as the father of a daughter, the low-key break-up ode "May 26." and the introspective existentialist rant "One Day." Aiding Custom throughout his debut is good buddy Duncan Sheik, who not only provides guitar and harmonies, but co-wrote "Like You," a gothy song full of swirling keys and a muted vocal that brings to mind classic Cure. don't listen to rolling stone
i've been happy with this cd since the day i bought it despite all the poor reviews it got. tracks 1 and 2 are excellent, and the rest of the album is good enough to listen through.
