Six Organs of Admittance took a huge step forward with Dark Noontide -- the second full-length from the essentially one-man acoustic project -- without completely abandoning the sound of its predecessor. While still operating within a tradition that includes such blues/raga guitarists as John Fahey and Sandy Bull, Dark Noontide brings vocals to a more prominent position on songs like "Spirits Abandoned" and "This Hand." Connecting these more song-oriented outings are perfectly paced drones and ambient field recordings that are enjoyable on their own merits. Working within a very limited framework -- essentially solo guitar and four-track manipulations -- Six Organs is able to explore a surprising variety of moods and textures on Dark Noontide. ~ Jason Nickey

Dark Noontide album
$8.89 Isis' first official release, this 1999 EP shows off a few different facets of the band's hardcore/doom/sludge/metal style, which at this stage was already pretty impressive despite not yet having fully developed to the point it would on subsequent efforts. From the hateful screaming and dense guitar/bass sludge of "Charmicarmicarmicat Shines to Earth" to the pummeling riffs and downshifting grooves of "The Minus Times" and on through the discordant guitars and more stretched-out song structure of "Red Sea," the ...

Dark Noontide CD music
$11.59 On Six Organs of Admittance's self-titled debut, Ben Chasny lays the foundation for the psychedelic folk-blues that he would continue to explore all the nooks, corners, and crevices of in his subsequent work. The record relies heavily on ambience and noise to give the beautiful acoustic guitar pieces a rough-hewn quality that makes them seem timeless. A single drone lasts the entirety of the first song, "Maria," but "Sum of All Heaven," ...
| | Six Organs Of Admittance Compathia CD (2003)
Dark Noontide music CDs
$11.85 With Compathia, Ben Chasny takes Six Organs of Admittance further in the direction of "songs" in the traditional sense (as opposed to extended, largely instrumental, raga-like jams). Assuredly, these aren't pop songs, but they are, most definitely, songs. With Dark Noontide, Six Organs' previous effort, Chasny's folky eastern melodies were balanced by his chant-like moan. But with Compathia, he sings on every track save one, the brief title track (which functions as a beautiful instrumental breather mid-album). His voice is also noticeably pushed forward in the mix, and the songs themselves are less cluttered by percussion and other instruments, further emphasizing ...

| | Six Organs Of Admittance Manifestation CD (2000)
Dark Noontide album
$12.39 If there were one track that completely illustrated the strange and mystical magic that is Six Organs of Admittance, "Manifestation" is it. Issued on vinyl in a numbered, limited edition of 500 in 1999, "Manifestation" is a single 22-minute track. (The other side of the record was an etched drawing of the sun.) Raga-like in its meandering textures and meditative quality, yet utterly different because of its lack of fixed rhythms, Six Organs is Ben Chasny and bandmates Jennifer Juniper Stratford, and percussionist and electronics whiz Utrillo Kushner (from Comets ...

| | Ian Siegal Meat & Potatoes CDs (2005)
Dark Noontide music CDs
$16.95 Ian Siegal doesn't sound like the name of a blues singer; his name doesn't have the stereotypically bluesy ring of names like Memphis Slim, T-Bone Walker, Mississippi John Hurt, Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Maceo Merriweather or John Lee Hooker. Perhaps someone who is seeking to combine Celtic music and klezmer could be named Ian Siegal (Ian is a very Scottish name, Siegal very Jewish). But this Ian Siegal (who is from England) doesn't play either Celtic music or klezmer, and Meat & Potatoes is most definitely aimed at the blues market. On this 2005 recording, Siegal favors electric blues-rock with a strong Howlin' Wolf influence; his ...

| | Rescues Crazy Ever After CD (2008)
Dark Noontide CD music
$18.99 Issued in 2008, the Rescues' debut outing, CRAZY EVER AFTER, presents an assured and accessible set of adult-alternative pop/rock tunes. Clearly drawing on the influences of the Mamas and the Papas as well as RUMOURS-era Fleetwood Mac, the Los Angeles-based ensemble boasts two male and two female singer/multi-instrumentalists, and they are all well showcased on the catchy title track and the airy "My Heart with You."
“Historic. A new band composed of three of L.A.’s finest singer-songwriters. It was as if these three had been born for this moment, such was the chemistry emanating from the stage. The Rescues have everything they need to become the leaders in a musical revolution.”-Music Connection“Unforgettable. The first Indie Supergroup. Fleetwood Mac with harmonies like Crosby Stills and Nash and the edginess of Concrete Blonde. The Rescues may be brand new, but have shown that they are at a level above everything else on the L.A. music scene.”-Easy Reader“Pure musical bliss. Imagine a singer-songwriter with powerhouse vocals, poignant songwriting and instrumental mastery. Now multiply it times three.”-Indie-Music.comThe Rescues are Kyler England (North Carolina), Gabriel Mann (Texas) and Adrianne (Florida). Each is named among Music Connection’s “Hot 100 Unsigned Artists of 2007.” Kyler and Adrianne met while at Berklee College Of Music and both eventually relocated to Los Angeles. There they encountered Gabe while all were playing on a vibrant scene that revolves around the Hotel Café music venue in Hollywood. Friends, collaborators and occasional tour-mates for years, it took a marriage to bring about their union as The Rescues on May 12th, 2007. A former music executive who had been a fan of all three artists asked them to form a group to play a concert at his wedding. It was an auspicious first show. Far from a “club date,” an amphitheater was built to house the band and the Mayor of Los Angeles came to introduce them to a seated audience of 200. The synergy was explosive from the start.Individually they have toured all 50 states and Europe, both on their own and sharing the stage with major acts like Alanis Morrissette, Sting, Avril Lavigne, The Rolling Stones, Kelly Clarkson, Gavin Degraw, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Annie Lennox and many others. They have played major events and festivals including The Sundance Film Festival. SXSW, CMJ, The Toronto Film Festival, V Festival in England, and the Bele Chere Festival. They have released more than 10 independent records. They own four recording studios between them (three in Los Angeles and one in Atlanta) and have produced albums for such artists as Sara Bareilles, Naimee Coleman and others. They have either won or been finalists in such songwriting ...
