1982's GREEN LIGHTS was Bonnie Raitt's first album of the '80s. On it, her sound took a more mainstream turn away from the blues and R&B normally associated with her music. Instead of interpreting material by Mable John and Sippie Wallace, Raitt went with tunes by reggae artist Eddy Grant ("Baby Come Back") and Bob Dylan ("Let's Keep It Between Us." Raitt co-wrote the rubbery, reggae-tinged "Can't Get Enough" and the Stonesier "I Can't Help Myself," with Vince Gill helping out on harmony vocals.
Additional guests include Rick Vito, Jackson Browne and jazz organist William "Smitty" Smith. Raitt's best cover choices by far are a pair of tunes from the NRBQ catalog. The hard-driving title track is barely beat out by the infectious "Me And The Boys," proving Raitt equally adept at rocking out or wielding a potent blues slide.
Rhino/Warner Bros. digital remaster of 1982 release. Features 'River Of Tears', 'Me And The Boys' & 'Baby Come Back'.

Green Light album
$6.09 Following on the heels of her gold record SWEET FORGIVENESS (with its hit cover of Del Shannon's "Runaway"), THE GLOW finds Raitt paying homage to an interesting cross-section of R&B influences and contemporary songwriters. Songs by Sam & Dave ("Thank You") and Mable Johns ("Your Good Thing [Is About To End]") are as excellently executed as material by Jackson Browne ("Sleep's Dark And Silent Gate") and fellow female blues artist Tracy Nelson ("[I Could Have Been Your] Best Friend").
Heartbreak is a recurring theme ...

| | Bonnie Raitt Give It Up CD (1972) Remastered
Green Light music CDs
$5.95 GIVE IT UP is the high point in Bonnie Raitt's early career. On it she brings together her R&B, folk, and straight blues influences with a mellow soft rock approach that would become synonymous with the California FM sound, yet none of these elements dominate--Raitt mixes the sounds perfectly. The result is an accessible, sensual music that never relies on cliché for effect, a sound that laid the foundation for her future commercial success.
Raitt contributes a handful of fine originals here, including the snappy, bluesy "Give It Up or Let Me Go," and the beautiful "Nothing Seems to Matter." Yet her excellent renditions of cover tunes like Jackson Browne's "Under a Falling Sky" and Chris Smithers's "Love Me Like a Man" prove she is as powerful ...

Green Light songs
$7.29 Raitt looks directly to her influences on a version of the Martha and the Vandellas' R&B classic "You've Been In Love Too Long," which kicks off the album, then looks further back with an acoustic rendition of Mississippi Fred McDowell's "Write Me A Few of Your Lines/Kokomo Blues," proving her grasp of the genre. But the record's highlights encompass more contemporary fare, such as Jackson's Browne's "I Thought I Was A Child," Mose Allison's "Everybody's Cryin' Mercy," and Randy Newman's "Guilty," with a light calypso "Wah She Go Do" balancing out these more plaintive compositions. A stellar cast of musicians, including members of Little Feat, Taj Mahal, and Ernie Watts (who ...

$11.99 As one-third of the intrepid street rap trio LOX, Styles Paniro had seen hip-hop go through a number of awkward phases since the death of friend and mentor the Notorious B.I.G. Biggie Smalls and Sean "Puffy" Combs were the first to recognize the talents of Styles and fellow Yonkers natives Jadakiss and Sheek Luciano. After Biggie's passing, the LOX released their debut, Money, Power & Respect, in 1998, and Styles was always the MC who listeners looked forward to hearing on the track. After the LOX became fed up with Puff Daddy's glammed-out approach to the rap game, they rediscovered their gully roots and resurfaced with DMX, Swizz Beatz, and the Ruff Ryder camp in early 2000, releasing ...
