Keyboardist/composer Wayne Horvitz has performed many different kinds of music in many different contexts. Rock 'n' roll-tinged avant-blowout with John Zorn's Naked City; neo-noir soundtracks for movies that haven't been made yet with his The President band; funky-groove jazz with his Zony Mash quartet; Americana-roots music with wife Robin Holcomb, and more. From the earthy to the cutting-edge, he's played it all.
On FOREVER, he gets back to his acoustic piano roots with a fairly straight-ahead jazz album, backed by guitar, bass and drums. The ambiance of Horvitz's moody tunes and production recalls the early ECM albums of Gary Burton and John Abercrombie. The ominously-titled but infectiously lyrical "Prepaid Funeral" channels the spirits of Bill Evans and Vince Guaraldi with its genial, genteel swing. The sly, sultry Mediterranean-tinged "Capricious Midnight" recalls film composer Henry Mancini's music for the "Pink Panther" movies. Each track is rich with evocative melodies and supremely accomplished yet subdued playing--you never get the feeling anyone here is trying to "dazzle" the listener with "hot" soloing for its own sake.

This double-CD set is not only the best of Bill Chase's output but -- comprising all three of their albums -- virtually their complete finished studio work, before the plane crash that killed Chase and much of the group. The mastering on this Wounded Bird reissue is excellent, with a full solid bass sound topped by soaring highs on the brass and no compression to speak of. Wendy was born on March 12, 1974, in Redlands, California. She always attended church with her family, which also includes her younger brother. At a vacation Bible school when she was just five years old, Wendy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, thanks to the example and teaching of her parents. So, from a very young age, Wendy has loved Jesus and wanted to serve Him with her life. She was baptized and made public profession of faith when she was twelve.At the age of four, Wendy started music classes, studying piano for a total of nine years and later guitar for two. She began singing when she was little, participating in the church choir, then in a vocal ensemble in junior high and a classical and pop show choir in high school. During her years at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, she sang in a vocal ensemble with whom she toured England and Scotland. That same summer, Wendy studied at the University of Malaga in Spain, earning credits toward her BA in Spanish Studies. She now also holds a Certificate in Interpretation and Translation from the University of California, Riverside.Since she started studying Spanish in 1989, Wendy developed a great interest in everything Latin, especially in the people. It was while she was in high school that she took a spiritual gifts test which confirmed that missions was important to her, but the desire had grown in her heart much before that. She had accompanied a group from her church to take food to orphanages in Mexico in the past, and now she applied to participate in a mission ...
