While continuing the Mediaeval Baebes' tradition of reprising anonymous medieval compositions, THE ROSE branches out to include credited material from Chaucer ("Slay Me Suddenly"), Dante ("The Circle of the Lustful"), and Gwerful Mechain, a 15th-century Welshwoman whose racy poem "The Sour Grove" had long been suppressed.
The album is also notable for its elaborate instrumentation. "Byrd One Brere" is a beautifully arranged ballad, while the bawdy "Dringo Bell" is unusual for its inclusion of a male chorus. Perhaps the most surprising track is "L'Amour De Moi," a 14th-century French composition arranged and sung with tremulous grace by 67-year-old Dorothy Carter.
Mediaeval Baebes: Katharine Blake (leader, vocals, autoharp, zither, violin, harmonium, keyboards, glockenspiel); Teresa Casella (vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass); Ruth Galloway (vocals, acoustic guitar, autoharp, zither, recorder); Cylindra Sapphire (vocals, keyboards, astrowheel); Audrey Evans (vocals, keyboards, percussion); Marie Findley, Claire Ravel, Carmen Schneider, Rachel Van Asch (vocals).
Mediaeval Bloakes Choir: Nick Marsh (vocals, acoustic guitar); Christian Hayes (vocals, electric guitar); Pike Galloway (vocals, ebow zither); Matt Fisher, Mick Bevan, David Ryder-Prangley (vocals).
Additional personnel: Dorothy Carter (autoharp, dulcimer, hurdy gurdy, zither); Gavin Wright, Boguslav Kostecki (violin); Bruce White (viola); David Daniels (cello); Mike Servent (harmonium, piano); Trevor Sharpe (percussion).

Ultimate Christmas Album, Vol. 1: KLUV is an impressive 25-track collection of seasonal favorites assembled from a wide range of eras and genres. Highlights include Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run," Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas" and Gene Autry's "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"; while not a definitive holiday collection, it includes enough hits and obscurities alike to be a worthwhile purchase nevertheless. ~ Marvin Jolly
Volume two of Collectables' Ultimate Christmas Album gathers more classic pop and rock holiday tunes, including the Beach Boys' "Little Saint Nick," Gene Autry's "Here Comes Santa Claus," and Diana Ross & the Supremes' "White Christmas." Most of this volume's best-known tracks are by traditional pop crooners, such as Dean Martin's "Let ...

$14.79 Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Lenny Rankins (known as "Fuzzy") spent the majority of his childhood in Wilmington, Delaware, where, through his church, he was first introduced to singing and playing musical instruments. He had the opportunity to play with various gospel groups, such as the Gospel Ambassadors and the Shield Brothers. Fuzzy moved to York, Pennsylvania, where he continued playing at the church and touring with gospel groups. At the age of 16, he performed in shows with Shirley Caesar, Al Green, Five Blind Boys, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Gospel Keynotes, James Cleveland, and many others. At the age of 19, Fuzzy formed his own gospel group called God's Angels based in York, Pennsylvania, recording, traveling and performing on the East Coast. He eventually expanded his music and organized an R&B group called the 14 Karat Band that toured and performed with major R&B artists, such as Tone Tone, Roy Clark, Basic Black, Patty Labelle, and Gerald Levert. Fuzzy moved to California in 1990 to further pursue his musical career. He met blues and jazz performer Fro Brigham (formerly associated with Louis Armstrong). Fuzzy began playing guitar with Fro's group and discovered the diversity of the blues. In 1992, he formed his own blues band, Fuzzy and the Bluesmen, which became very popular in the Southern California area. In 1993, Fuzzy and the Bluesmen was presented with the Jim Croce Blues Award. That same year, the group received the "Best Blues" music award. Fuzzy and the Bluesmen made several television appearances, including the Jerry Lewis Telethon show. | | Alexander Djordjevic Gray Clouds: Piano Music Of Franz Liszt CD (2009)
Rose music CDs
$13.29 Gray Clouds: Piano Music of Franz Liszt is the latest CD release from pianist Alexander Djordjevic which features a variety of solo piano works from Liszt’s late period. Known most often for his great, powerful Romantic works (B minor Sonata, et al), Liszt was a master at smaller scale works as well, and many of these are beautifully intimate works which often feature great harmonic and musical invention. As with any Liszt works, these shorter pieces require a pianist of utmost skill and artistry, and Alexander Djordjevic brings formidable talent and technique to these works, coupled with a profound poetic sensitivity to the music. Gray Clouds features a number of Liszt’s “sacred” works for solo piano – the “Stabat Mater”, “Vexilla Regis Prodeunt” & “Sancta Dorothea” are among those on this collection, and Djordjevic gives each of these works a stately, yet reflective tone, bringing out their grasping for the Divine, while works such as the well-known “En Reve Nocturne” exude the spirit of Romanticism, and the incredibly original “Bagatelle Sans Tonalite” points towards the 20th century. Through all of these works, Djordjevic displays a deep affinity for Liszt’s music, showcasing by turns their profundity, their thoughtfulness and their joy, and in every case transcending any limitations ...
