Chances are you've heard Kinky's "Mas" in previews for NBC's SOPRANOS knockoff KINGPIN. The guns, sweat, violence, and dangerous sex of the commercial are an ideal setting for the Mexican band's hot, danceably exotic sound, which blends electronica and rock with Latin rhythms and ethereal vocals in a compelling, percolating mix.
Campy (consider the Dirk Diggler disco of "Mirando De Lando"), yet with an undeniably tough center, Kinky expertly navigates the shoals of its first full-length effort as if it had spent every day of the past decade in the studio. The percussive batucada onslaught of "Sol" will have even the most diehard wallflowers strutting their stuff, and if some of the rhythms of "Ejercicio" sound a trifle recycled, just consider it a breathing space before the next take-no-prisoners rush of Central American funk. "Cornman" blends chiming Monterey accordion with tough New York Avenue C R&B in an irresistible amalgam that segues into the equally seductive, timbale-laced "Anorexic Freaks," a stylish, almost throwaway cut so simultaneously funky yet post-modern you'll wonder if these guys aren't Japanese or something.

Just finished watching CSI Miami TV show, episode starting with some band playing catchy rythm. Noticed the name "Kinky" on the bass drum, and found out that's "Mas", an opening track from the album "Kinky". Gonna check it all out, worth a try!

great groove
This CD has been in my car for a month now. I like the variety of sounds, samples, and grooves. If you like a creative, innovative, and edgy sound, this CD will appeal to you.

this mexican band mix all the latin and mexican sounds with beats of electronic and rock stuff, to create a different sound, great songs,crazy lyrics,a very recomendable cd.

Though R&B pinup boy Jaheim's artistic focus is on life in the ghetto, he doesn't fall in line with the confrontational hip-hoppers who revel in the difficulties, violence, and harshness of urban life. Instead, as the album's title suggests, he focuses on the romance that blossoms even on the mean streets.
GHETTO LOVE roams smoothly from the sultry slow jam of "Looking for Love" to the '70s-style funk backing and forceful beat of "Let it Go" and the hip-hop-oriented "Li'l Nigga Ain't Mine," which revisits the theme examined in Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Jaheim is assisted on his debut album by some talented friends, including Castro, Miss Jones, and Terry Dexter, but it's his own way with a melody and knack for balancing street-cred hip-hop with heartfelt soul that are the most memorable elements on this disc.
As the title indicates, STILL GHETTO pretty much picks up where Jaheim left off with his previous album GHETTO LOVE. Once again we find the singer deftly mixing street-real themes and hip-hop production techniques with slow-jam R&B tracks and soulful vocalizing. Despite his hard-guy front, Jaheim mostly comes off as a Love Man, as on "Put That Woman First" and his leather-and-lace deut with Mary J. Blige "The Beauty and the Thug." Even though STILL GHETTO finds him enough of a softie to have children's voices chiming in on his tunes, the street side will out; Jaheim may be one of the few contemporary singers capable of pulling off a romantic ode entitled "Me and My "B*tch," for example.

Proud to announce the release of Buffalo, NY Recording Artist The Exoutics “Anything You Want - Old School… Funk, Love & Soul” CD. About The Artists - Original members include: Michael Pennick (Bass Guitar), Ronald Walker (Lead Guitar), Van Brailsford (Drums), Marvin Valentine (Keyboards), Andrew Williamson (Keyboards), Latisha Parker (Vocal), Darrel Vaden (Vocal), Leon Martin III (Percussions), Additional artists: Dennis Andrews (vocal), Annette Batia (vocal), Joe Diggs (vocal), Tom Hall (vocal), Neil Harris (Drums), Wade Hawkins (Keyboards), These R&B artists began performing in small night clubs in Western NY and became locally recognized after releasing the song “Here We Go Again” on their independent record label in 1978. The song became a regional success and peeked at number twelve on local charts with the support of radio D.J. AL Parker Jr. The success of this song prompted the group to write and record “The Exoutic Touch” album, which featured the soulful vocals of Darrel Vaden and very much challenged the musical status quo at the time by combining smooth harmony with driving funky beats in an unconventional format. The album was over shadowed by the success of Rick James and had limited success in the U.S. however it was very well received in the U.K., Europe and Japan. The group continued performing in small concert halls and larger night club venues throughout the northeast. The song “Spring Time Love” was released in 1981 and with the support of Frank Lorenz Jr. climbed to number 2 on Western NY regional charts, remaining on the charts for about 5 months. Although never receiving national recognition the Exoutics continued to write, record and perform through the years. Inspired by the recent trend to recapture the “old school” soul music feel and repeated requests by fans to make “The Exoutics” songs available, this CD project was born. About The CD: The 13 songs on the “Anything You Want” CD were recorded by the Exoutics at various stages of their evolution from 1978 - 2006 and gives insight into their personal and musical growth through the years. As with most groups, changes occur as time marches on. This collection is an historical audio reflection of those changes. Several of the songs on this project were recorded many years ago and have not been released until now (it truly is new, old school music). “E-Stomp The Funk” is the very first original song recorded by The Exoutics. More recent recordings include “Anything You Want”, “Over Again” & “I’ll be Around”. Musical Style: The Exoutics’ musical style is a cross of R&B and Old School Soul with light Jazz overtones.
