Following its greatest success yet with the concept album SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON, Iron Maiden changed out Adrian Smith for ex-Ian Gillan guitarist Janick Gers on NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING. Rumors swirled that the band was breaking up, especially when Bruce Dickinson issued a solo album, but the band re-congregated for 1990's NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING. The album marked a musical move back to the basics, as Maiden dropped the synth shadings of its previous two albums in exchange for a more guitar-driven sound. Standouts include "Holy Smoke" and "Bring Your Daughter...To the Slaughter," as well as the album-opening "Tailgunner."
Iron Maiden: Bruce Dickinson (vocals); Dave Murray, Janick Gers (guitar); Steve Harris (bass); Nicko McBrain (drums).
This is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The Enhanced portion includes music videos for "Holy Smoke" and "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter."
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Q (2/91) - Recommended as one of the five best metal albums of 1990. "The biggest metal band in the world who have honed down their sound of classic guitar-led metal, the introduction of Hartlepool-born Janick Gers has spurred fellow guitarist Dave Murray along considerably. Suitably crunching." "No Prayer" often gets a bad rap from Maiden fans, due to a few circumstances. This was the post-Adrian Smith album. His song writing and guitar talent contributed to all of Maiden's immense success in the '80s, and was missed very much in No Prayer (w/exception to "Hooks in You", co-written w/Bruce). Also, Maiden fans were used to Dickinson's "air raid siren" style, and crisp, smooth vocals. Here, he went for a rougher approach. No Prayer also followed in the foot tracks of Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son, the latter of which is arguably one of Maiden's best, and showed them at the height of their evolution. No Prayer was, in many ways, a "back to basics" album, w/cuts like "Tailgunner" (reminiscent of Aces High), "Hooks in You" (a Charlotte song), and videos that resembled their Number of the Beast days. My faves? Holy Smoke (the first single), Hooks in You, and my favorite of them all here is the title track, "No Prayer for the Dying", which could have easily fit somewhere on Seventh Son for its style, and poetic lyrics. Would I recommend it? Yes. Submitted by cyrus_aman (Seattle, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Their Least Appealing Album, Yet Most Can't Beat It Well, I guess you could say this one is a bit of a disappointment for hardcore Maiden fans, yet not a terrible album by any means. It's just really not up to par with the superiority of Maiden's previous albums. I love it but if its your first listen, i wouldn't suggest this one as much. instead, pick up Brave New World, Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, or SSOASS. I'd give it more if I could This is by far my favorite from the beast. Every song is awesome. The title track is the best Maiden song ever released. I just can't stop listening to this CD. It has a lot of melodic riffs like in Mother Russia, No Prayer, and Run Silent. If you're a Maiden fan, you'll love this CD. Buy it. Janick is underrated you gotta give Janick credit on No Prayer. He may not have the same incredible riffs and melodies as Adrian but at least he filled in better for Maiden than Blaize Bayley did for Bruce Dickinson. The solos still are raging. No Prayer For The Dying album
$13.85 Although alternative rock was burning up the charts in 1992, longtime metallist outfit Iron Maiden admirably stuck to its guns with FEAR OF THE DARK. This effort follows in the path of 1990's NO PRAYER FOR THE DYING, as Maiden again sticks to more simple compositions, avoiding the more ambitious songwriting tendencies that marked the group's late-'80s work. The album-opening "Be Quick or Be Dead" recalls the work of such younger speed metal bands as Megadeth, while "From Here to Eternity" is one of Maiden's few forays into tales of sex and sin, a la Guns N' Roses. Unfortunately, Singer Bruce Dickinson quit the band after the ensuing tour (although he and guitarist Adrian Smith would return for a reunion in 1999).
While 1992's Fear of the Dark was definitely more of a return to form for Iron Maiden, it was still wasn't quite on par with their exceptional work from the '80s. Easily an improvement over 1990's lackluster No Prayer for the Dying (both musically and sonically), the album debuted on the U.K. charts at number one. The opening "Be Quick or Be Dead" proved Maiden could easily hold their own with younger thrash metal bands, "From Here to Eternity" contained lyrics that seem better fitted for Mötley Crüe, while the expected epic ...

No Prayer For The Dying CD music
$13.69 1982's THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST remains one of heavy metal's all-time classics. Although the British quintet was in the midst of enjoying its first taste of global success, original singer Paul Di'Anno abruptly quit in 1981. Though stunned, the young band wisely agreed to soldier on, making ex-Samson singer Bruce Dickinson their new frontman. Nicknamed "The Air Raid Siren," Dickinson's voice was to become one of the band's most prominent signature characteristics. It also didn't hurt that the band had composed some of its best songs ever, ...

No Prayer For The Dying songs
$13.95 Iron Maiden issued its fifth release, POWERSLAVE, in 1984. It was a time in which the band had become a worldwide arena-headlining sensation. The album was also the first to not have been marked by a lineup change, helping Maiden produce another metal classic.
While most other metal bands of the era were still singing about partying, Maiden continued to tackle some serious, thought-provoking subject matter. The band addresses the threat of nuclear war on "2 Minutes to Midnight," World War II-era fighter pilots in the album-opening "Aces High," and the demise of an Egyptian king in the title track. But the true highlight is the long and winding 13-and-a-half-minute epic "Rime of the Ancient Mariner," a track that does ...

No Prayer For The Dying album
$14.95 Principally recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, The Bahamas and Wisseloord Studios, Hilversum, The Netherlands.
Iron Maiden's 1986 SOMEWHERE IN TIME contains more than a few highlights, such as the ferocious album opener, "Caught Somewhere in Time," as well as softer singles "Wasted Years" and "Stranger in a Strange Land." And as with the band's preceding studio release, POWERSLAVE, another masterful composition closes the album, in this case the sprawling "Alexander the Great." Departing from the familiar sounds of stellar earlier ...

No Prayer For The Dying CD music
$14.95 ON SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON, the songs tell the tale of a young prophet who predicts the destruction of his village, and is ignored when he tries to warn the others. Eventually, the man goes mad and commits suicide. Employing synthesizers, Iron Maiden takes a two-fold risk: with the music and by doing a concept album. This formula might have spelled disaster for most bands, but not Iron Maiden. SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON turned out to be one of the band's strongest releases, debuting in the U.K. charts at Number One, and spawning four Top-10 singles ("Can I Play With Madness," "The Evil That Men Do," "The Prophecy," and "Infinite Dreams"). ...
