This sweeping collection covers singer-songwriter Neil Diamond's output for MCA's Uni imprint, for which he recorded from 1968 to 1972, and charts his artistic development from the ambitious pop writer of "Two Bit Manchild" to the existential wizard of "I Am...I Said." PLAY ME also incorporates many lesser-known Diamond gems, like the country-flavored "You're So Sweet Horseflies Keep Hanging Round Your Face," which carries more than a hint of the influence of his erstwhile producer Chip Taylor, and his elaborate "African Suite," from 1970's TAP ROOT MANUSCRIPT album. In addition, seven live tracks, featuring songs Diamond recorded for his previous label, Bang, are included.

Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Value package, great compilation Excellent selection of music, fantastic value, where else can you get 74 of Neil's best songs for under $30 all in one package. Even get one song (rehearsal version) never before released. Submitted by David (Dallas TX USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Neils' magic on every track! Even though all of the songs but one were already in my CD collection, this set is a fantastic, must have. Especially for that one track never before released on CD, the improved sound quality, and the different version of Cherry Cherry, but every track is exceptional, vintage Neil. A great buy and well worth the expense of importing into Australia. It's a treasure, I love it! Submitted by a reviewer (Melbourne, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fantastic Collection The best of Neil Diamond was recorded while he was at MCA. At his previous label he was indecise between Rock'n Roll and romantic ballads, and at the next label after MCA he became a little sophisticated and his arrangements too electronic.
It's a pleasure to find his 6 MCA Albuns together plus bonus live tracks. I just don't know from which Album is the track nr.12 of the first CD(Broad Old Woman). Submitted by raield (Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Music of my lifetime Being a 38 year old male, I grew up on Neil Diamond. I love all his early Bang material, as well as his catalog with UNI. This 3 CD set is just that, the entire catalog of UNI. Well remastered and well packaged. I can give away all the single CD's of these albums and share Neil's wonderful craft. This CD is a treasure and so is Mr. Diamond!! Submitted by a reviewer (S.W.
