| Value package, great compilation Excellent selection of music, fantastic value, where else can you get 74 of Neil's best songs for under $30 all in one package. By David (Dallas TX USA) |
| Music of my lifetime Being a 38 year old male, I grew up on Neil Diamond. I love all his early Bang material, as well as his catalog with UNI. By a reviewer (S.W. Kansas USA) |
| Fantastic Collection The best of Neil Diamond was recorded while he was at MCA. At his previous label he was indecise between Rock'n Roll and romantic ballads, and at the next label after MCA he became a little sophisticated and his arrangements too electronic. Animals Retrospective CD (2004) Top Seller
Play Me: The Complete Uni Studio Recordings...Plus! album for sale Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from a traditional folk lament to an urgent, ominous piece of churning tumult.
Of course, the group skillfully expanded those roots (with the help of some great writers), and turned out some classic working-class-rebel anthems ("We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life"). By '67, the original lineup disbanded, and Eric Burdon led a new batch of Animals into a psychedelic West Coast sound ("San Franciscan Nights," "Monterey"). The Animals may not be given pride of place in the rock history books, but RETROSPECTIVE shows that they fully deserve it.

Who Ultimate Collection CDs (2002) Top Seller
Play Me: The Complete Uni Studio Recordings...Plus! CD music Initial pressings of THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION included a limited edition bonus disc featuring four previously unreleased tracks.
Recorded between November 1964 and June 1982. Includes liner notes by Matt Kent and Andy Neill.
When it comes to a ground-breaking, iconic band like the Who, dubbing an anthology THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is no small claim. The kicker here is that it happens to be the truth. Without venturing into the realm of the box set, there's never been such a definitive batch of Who tunes all under one roof before. Virtually all the bases are covered here, from such attitude-laden mid-'60s mod anthems as "My Generation" and "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere" to the conceptual expansiveness of TOMMY-era tunes ("I'm Free," "See Me Feel Me"). We get the full-on long-haired, bare-chested glory of the early '70s ("Won't Get Fooled Again") as well as the tapered, synth-flecked smartness of the early '80s ("Eminence Front," "You Better You Bet." For someone looking for an entry point into the work of this larger-than-life group, or just somebody who wants a great all-purpose who disc, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is truly a case of truth in advertising. Get one.
Keith Moon, Kenney Jones (drums).

Chicago Chicago Transit Authority CD (1969) Top Seller
Play Me: The Complete Uni Studio Recordings...Plus! buy CD music This debut has surprisingly endured, whereas all their following 18,000 albums with the same title (other than a number change) have little or no credibility in the public's memory. This album can be interchanged with the second and third Blood Sweat And Tears album; all represent the very best of late 60s American jazz/rock. The band changed their name soon afterwards as they ploughed a successful path into smooth AOR. Lengthy tracks such as "South California Purples" and their excellent cover version of Spencer Davis Group's "I'm A Man" prove beyond doubt that these chaps can really play. Maybe they were smarter than most in seeing the limitations of jazz/rock and moving on to play Russian roulette.
International exclusive reissue of Chicago's 1969 debut album packaged in a limited edition LP sleeve (12'' X 12''). WEA. 2004.

Hot August Night CDs (1972) Top Seller
Play Me: The Complete Uni Studio Recordings...Plus! songs Recorded live at the Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, California on August 24, 1972. Originally released on MCA Records (6896). Includes liner notes by Karen Shearer.
In addition to his excellent skills as a songwriter, Neil Diamond is also known for his bold, often theatrical performance style. One glance at the cover of HOT AUGUST NIGHT--Diamond clothed in denim and Native American jewelry, with his hands hovering over his body, and an expression suggesting a trance of intensity--and the listener knows he or she is in for some serious performing. The pop icon delivers as expected; HOT AUGUST NIGHT, recorded in 1972 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, documents the epic showmanship of a Neil Diamond concert.
Listeners will certainly get their money's worth. Diamond's best-loved songs stuff the two-disc, 25-track set list--the ubiquitous "Sweet Caroline," the infectious "Song Sung Blue," et al, plus versions of "Red Red Wine" and "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon," which he wrote, but were also hits for others. An energetic backing band and a full string section complement the singer's impassioned performances, and an encore medley of "Soolaimon" and "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" brings the show to a fiery close. HOT AUGUST NIGHT remains one of Diamond's best-selling albums. Give it a listen and see why.

Chicago Chicago V CD (1972) Top Seller
Play Me: The Complete Uni Studio Recordings...Plus! album for sale CHICAGO V (from 1972) was in some ways the end of the "old" Chicago, pointing the way towards a smoother, mellower style they'd adopt in the years to come. V still has jazz and progressive elements ("A Hit By Varèse," "Dialogues"), political commentary ("State of the Union"), and melodious, sunny, horn-laden pop (the huge hit "Saturday In The Park"). The playing was still tight and clean, and the vocals still earnest and heartfelt, but a lighter mood began to replace the urgency of the band's late-'60s recordings.
Expanded & remastered. The band's first single-LP album, includes the crossover hit 'Saturday In The Park' and nine more original tracks, plus bonus tracks 'A Song For Richard And His Friends' (studio without vocals), 'Mississippi Delta City Blues' (1st recorded version with scratch vocal) & 'Dialogue (Part I & II)' (Single version). 2002.

Chicago Chicago VI CD (1973) Top Seller
Play Me: The Complete Uni Studio Recordings...Plus! CD music The album on which Chicago fully dropped its early jazz-rock roots and went strictly pop, 1973's CHICAGO VI features two of the band's finest singles, the romantic "Just You 'N' Me" and the uplifting "Feelin' Stronger Every Day," along with a solid set of album tracks. Although Robert Lamm's solo piano ballad "Critics' Choice" reveals a thin skin concerning the group's poor reviews from the hipster press, Terry Kath's "What's This World Coming To" and Lamm's dreamy "Something in This City Changes People" are nearly as strong as the big hits. Elsewhere, the country-fried "In Terms of Two" proves an interesting stylistic detour. Chicago has always been a definitive singles band, but those looking to explore their catalogue beyond the hits should check out this excellent release.
Expanded & remastered. This album shows the emergence of Chicago's more pop-oriented style, and features the hit singles 'Just You 'N' Me' and 'Feelin' Stronger Every Day' with 8 more original tracks, plus the bonus tracks 'Tired Of Being Alone' (with a Al Green) & 'Beyond All Our Sorrows' (Terry Kath Demo). 2002.
