(1 Customer Review)
Throughout, Anastasio is the star, displaying the kind of guitar expertise that's doubtless launched countless Saturday morning guitar heroes at the local music store, while the band delves deep into the unexplored jazz-rock territory typified by the set-closing "David Bowie." The band's confidence had obviously blossomed by the time of this confident set, which captures the Phish/Anastasio phenomenon in full musical bloom, and finds it skillfully melding its well-known eccentricity and musical smarts in one smooth package.
The 12th in this historic collection of live two-track recordings taken from the band's mixing desk is, as you'd expect, heavily jam-centric, featuring Trey Anastasio's fiery, Robert Fripp-influenced guitar histrionics and some high-octane tempos, resulting in a resemblance to a somewhat more rock-oriented Mahavishnu Orchestra. In contrast "The Lizards" is a sweetly lyrical Brazilian-flavored excursion around Anastasio's fretboard, and the down-tempo ballad "Strange Design" carries distinct echoes of early-'70s Pink Floyd.
Phish: Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon, Page McConnell.

Live Phish, Vol. 12 songs
$23.05 Throughout the '90s, Phish built up its reputation as the ultimate jam band, an outfit fit to take up the Grateful Dead's you-have-to-be-there ethos of exploration via live performance. Accordingly, even after Phish was put on hold and guitarist Trey Anastasio went off to record with supergroup Oysterhead, the neo-hippie icons saw fit to release a five-volume set of live albums, each sold separately and containing two or three discs worth of material from a given night in Phish's concert history. As with the aforementioned Dead, Phish pulls up to its full height in concert, and so this live series is probably the best way to experience the group's improv-oriented but always accessible music.
Volume two of the series, recorded in 1994 in North Foyston, VT (home turf for the band), is the earliest volume in the series. As such, ...

Live Phish, Vol. 12 CD music
$27.29 Recorded live at Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls, New York on October 31, 1994.
Like so many bands entering the 21st century who found that their in-concert appeal warranted a series of live releases to please the fans and beat the bootleggers (String Cheese Incident and Pearl Jam come to mind, but Zappa and the Dead got there first), Vermont's favorite (please don't call them a) jam band Phish entered the fray with a vengeance. Their live albums are multi-disc affairs with snazzy packaging and hours of sonic fun built in. Volumes 13-16 capture different years of the band's famed Halloween concerts where, traditionally, ...

| | Queers Beyond The Valley... CD (2000)
Live Phish, Vol. 12 songs
$11.85 (MP3 Available for Download) One of the odder entries in the Queers' extensive catalog, 2000's Beyond the Valley... is a much darker and less overtly funny album than almost anything the band has ever done. There's a lot of anger expressed in these songs, and little of it is of the cheerful middle-finger-salute variety head Queer Joe King specializes in. (It may be worth noting that this was the Queers' first release after the 1999 death of King's longtime ...
