Standard Screen; Soundtrack English An American WWII veteran relives his memories of the dazzle, romance, and hard times in the postwar City of Lights. THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS stars Van Johnson as Charles Wills, a war writer who meets a mercurial and beautiful young socialite in Paris, Helen Ellswirth (Elizabeth Taylor), and falls in love with her in the years following the war. This epic romance captures the joys and tragedies of expatriates in café society Paris and features Elizabeth Taylor at her luminous best. Based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald story "Babylon Revisited," this epic romance is a captivating blend of Parisian expatriate high society and the struggles in post-WWII Europe. When war writer and veteran Charles Wills (Van Johnson) meets the lovely and restless Helen Ellswirth (Elizabeth Taylor) in Paris after the war, the two strangers instantly fall in love, basking in the glory of a free Paris. Helen and her father, James Ellswirth (Walter Pidgeon), are eccentric American expatriates living life in high style but always on the brink of going broke. Charles is captivated with the Ellswirthses' reckless and fun-loving lifestyle, staying out all night, gambling and living life in the glory of the Left Bank artistic society. Charles and Helen get married and have a family, but life becomes more difficult as they continue on with their free-spirited and reckless adventure. Elizabeth Taylor is glorious as the lovely young ingenue Helen, who loves Charles in spite of herself. Her stunning costumes are shot beautifully, contributing to the glorious style of this beautifully rendered epic. Last Time I Saw Paris Quotes/Excerpts: "I'm sick to death of death!"--Helen (Elizabeth Taylor) to Charles (Van Johnson)
"I may not be able to cook or sew, but I sure can find myself a taxi--it's the first thing I learned in finishing school."--Helen to Charles

Last Time I Saw Paris film
$12.99 For his fourth directorial feature in the span of two years, Clint Eastwood tells the story of a grizzled Korean War vet's reluctant friendship with a Hmong teenage boy and his immigrant family. Set in contemporary Detroit, GRAN TORINO tackles the shifting cultural and economic landscape of not only the Motor City, but America as well. Eastwood stars as Walt Kowalski, an unabashed bigot who never heard a racial insult he didn't love. Bitter, haunted, and full of pride, Walt refuses to abandon the neighborhood he's lived in for decades despite its changing demographics as he clings desperately to a mindset long since out of step with the times. When his Hmong neighbor Thao tries to steal his prized muscle car as part of a gang initiation, Walt is forced to grapple with the world around him.
GRAN TORINO's approach to the complicated issue of race relations is equal parts Archie Bunker and CRASH. That is to say, there is nothing subtle about Walt's bigotry, yet his misanthropy knows no bounds, and Eastwood does a remarkable job of finding the humor in Walt's equal opportunity racism. More than simply a racial morality tale, however, GRAN TORINO is about the unlikely bonds that people form to navigate the subtle complexities every day life. Like MILLION DOLLAR BABY, GRAN TORINO explores the challenging yet rich new world that can open up when individuals let down their guard, even if for just a moment. Estranged from his family and his church, and without any sense of personal peace, Walt offers all that he has to Thao and his family, namely wisdom and protection. When tragedy ...

$10.49 The boozing, smoking, cussing captain of a tramp steamer, Charlie Allnut, saves prim and proper Rose Sayer after her brother is killed by German soldiers at the beginning of World War I in Africa. Many quarrels later, the two set sail on the Ulonga-Bora in order to sabotage a German ship. Based on the 1935 novel by C.S. Forester, the wonderful combination of Hepburn and Bogie (who won an Oscar) makes this a thoroughly enjoyable blend of comedy and adventure. Later came the book (and Clint Eastwood film) White Hunter, Black Heart, which chronicled Peter Viertel's experiences observing ...

Last Time I Saw Paris review
$25.19 Created by legendary television producer Stephen J. Cannell (THE A-TEAM, HUNTER), 21 JUMP STREET took a MOD SQUAD-like premise and used it to explore complex issues facing teenagers and young adults. A group of young police officers is chosen to join a specialized team to go undercover in high schools and colleges. Their goal is to stop criminals early in their careers, before they're entangled in a life of illegality. With a cast headed by heartthrob Johnny Depp, 21 JUMP STREET never shied away from presenting storylines with controversial topics, although never in an exploitative way. The fifth and final season contains 23 episodes from the eventful show, as well as three episodes ...
