I am an 82 year old self taught classical music lover; Looking back I think it has been better than being taught by others. I have had the pleasure of discovery; For instance,many years ago I heard the Albinoni adagio,and it invoked feelings of mystery; It took many years before I discovered that it was called an adagio and it was attributed to Albinoni; Whe I discovered this CD on the web, I bought it because the name "Albonini" caught my eye I first heard thebSamuel Barber "Adagio for strings many years ago and at that time like many others, I did not know that it was a part of a three part concerto for strings; It is so beautiful that it stands alone and has been used in many movies ("Platoon" "The Elephant Man" "El Norte" and "Lorenzo's Oil". I "discovered" Mahler many years ago, when I saw his name on an album and remembered hearing of a piece of music entitled "Mathis Der Mahler" by another composer;Recently some young men visited me to ask me to join their church,saying that if I love good music think of what music in heaven must be like; I told them that if the adagietto of GUstav Mahler isn't heaven sent it will do until I hear the real thing.Irecently discovered that the main street of this little town has beautiful christmas trees on either side every hundred yards; Ihad never notiiced them before; That reminded me that some years ago, while listening to Beethoven's Ninth, I "discovered" that it had a beautiful adagio movement just before the last magnificent "Ode To Joy" movement that I had completely missed te sheer beauty of the third mvement: I highly recommend this CD for beginners and "Old Hands"
