Anna Maria Horsford, Clifford "Method Man" Smith, Fred Willard, Mike Epps, Obba Babatunde, Reggie "Redman" Noble - Director: Jesse Dylan HOW HIGH is a raucous comedy about two underachieving potheads from the projects, Cyrus and Jamal (rappers Method Man and Redman), who, through bizarre circumstances, end up attending Harvard University. It all begins when Cyrus' friend Ivory dies, and Cyrus uses his ashes as fertilizer to grow marijuana. When the two are taking their college entrance exams, Jamal explains his philosophy: Study high. Take the test high. Get high scores. Smoking Cyrus' magical weed somehow summons the ghost of the brainy Ivory, who gives them all the answers to the exam. They are recruited by Chancellor Huntley (Fred Willard) to attend Harvard, where they use the weed to continue their academic success, but thanks to the machinations of the uptight Dean Cain (Obba Babatunde), they soon find themselves without Ivory's help, and are forced to maintain their scholarship grades on their own. The plot reaches its peak of comic ludicrousness when the hapless duo attempts to dig up and smoke the remains of John Quincy Adams. HOW HIGH features Mike Epps, Tracy Morgan, and Spalding Gray in supporting roles. The film is scabrously funny and refreshingly free of logic, reason, and political correctness. Theatrical release: December 21, 2001 How High Reviews: "...If you like stoner comedies and Cheech & Chong, HOW HIGH will feel like home....Method Man and Redman lend a certain charm to this film....The pair exudes humor..."
-- Jae-Ha Kim, Chicago Sun-Times "...Enough cheery mockery to amuse even non-tokers..."-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly "...Frequently amusing....Dylan maintains a consistent level of a swaggering, semi-anarchic silliness..."-- Joe Leydon, Variety

$8.85 Antoine Fuqua (THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS, BAIT) turns up the intensity level with TRAINING DAY, a charged drama about police corruption in downtown Los Angeles. Ethan Hawke stars as Jake Hoyt, a well-intentioned young officer who thinks he's found his ticket to becoming a detective in the form of undercover officer Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington). Harris is a notorious figure in the streets and in the office. He also has the authority to make Jake's professional wishes come true, provided Jake is able to prove his worth on Alonzo's team. At first, Alonzo's blunt, carefree demeanor provides a shock to Jake's optimistic system, but as it becomes clear that Alonzo is dangerously out of control, Jake must decide whether or not to risk his future in the name of the law.
Washington's performance as the evil, pragmatic detective is a sight to behold. He delivers his lines with a devilish ferocity that keeps the film bubbling throughout. Hawke slips into the role of the rookie everyman with ...

But no one could have predicted the chord she'd strike among women with ...

| | Little Britain - The Complete Second Series DVDs (2004)
How High review
$25.39 An odd, distinctly British sketch show, LITTLE BRITAIN rose to become one of the most popular comedy shows in its native U.K. Starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams in a variety of guises, each sketch features a unique take on the minutiae of British life. Imitating people from various walks of life, Lucas and Walliams grotesquely exaggerate them for comedic effect; their chirpy yet deliberately irritating character Vicky Pollard even spawned a catchphrase that seeped into everyday use in Britain ("yeah, but no, but yeah!"). In a further twist, former DOCTOR WHO actor Tom Baker provides voiceover duties for a number of sketches, with his booming, Shakespearean tones adding a further aberration to the absurdist mêlée. LEAGUE OF GENTLEMAN fans should find plenty of amusement in this well-observed set of caricatures, with the folk who populate LITTLE BRITAIN offering a sprightly counterpart to the dark and devious inhabitants of Royston Vasey. The second series is included here in its entirety.
