| | J-Live All Of The Above CD J-Live Discography of CDs
(7 Customer Reviews)
East Coast underground rap at its finest, All of the Above showcases why J-Live is so beloved by fans of literate, well-mannered hip-hop. The focus here is on lyrics, through and through, and J-Live indeed serves up a linguistic feast for astute listeners. The pretensions of All of the Above -- from its Coltrane-esque cover art, to J-Live's disdain for commercial-minded rappers, to his thoughtful liner notes -- might turn off some listeners, particularly those less discerning ones who don't share his high-mindedness. But that's why All of the Above is an underground release: it's an album for a select audience that prefers intellect and understated beats over bombast, boasting, booty, and bluntedness. ~ Jason Birchmeier

This CD is REALLY good, but after listening to his first CD "The Best Part", Production wise, it was lacking. But any one who knows J-Live, Knows that he is a Lyricist FIRST, and as long as the best at least makes your head move he did his job. Try to hear this one AFTER you hear The Best Part. And sit down with this one or put it in your car and let it run, you wont be disappointed. Some say the only draw back of the CD is for the last part of it, the beats start to get a little r&b. But thats ok, he makes up for it with the Bonus Tracks. YOU NEED THIS CD IN YOUR COLLECTION! Submitted by Lauren (Dominican Republic) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wish There Were More Rappers Like Him All of the Above... is phenomenal.
The lyrics and rhymes are intelligent.
The music is great.
All themes are philosophic. The more you listen to it, the more you pick up new ideas in the lyrics.
Something for everyone. It's fun and serious. This is an art. No thugs like.
Obviously, he is a very intelligent man and artist.
Amazing

Rael Hip Hop On Your CD Damn. There's no stoppin' this guy. Collabos with greats like Premo. Keep doin' your thing and show the mainstream sell outs what real hip-hop's suppose to sound like Submitted by Plummah (Montclair, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
AMAZING, But "BEST PART" is BETTER J-Live is one of those emcees that will never make it mainstream because he is too talented and too smart for his own good. "All of the Above" is an incredible LP with clever wordplay, thought-provoking topics and dope-as-hell beats. Pick it Up, but ONLY after you have heard his first, and better album, THE BEST PART. This man's talent cannot be described in words, only in his music. Submitted by Charlie (New York, New York) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Vancouver BC......3 Stars? GET A CLUE...
This is one of the most complete albums to come out in AWHILE. What makes this album so good is the versatility J displays throughout. He can flip many rhyme styles and beats as well. There is a song on this album for everyone, every song is different. In Addition he touches various topics, 'All Of The Above' is music from the heart. All Of The Above album
$12.99 This is the defining album of East Coast crime rap, which was largely established by the Brooklyn-based Boot Camp Clik of MCs. ENTA DA STAGE is a classic in its genre, featuring deep-in-the-crates beats by DJ Evil Dee (who continues to have a presence in New York's underground hip-hop scene), lurid street imagery delivered by MCs Buckshot and 5T and a flavor forever reminiscent of early-'90s New York.
As much a social phenomenon as a congregation of MCs and DJs, the Boot ...
| | Das EFX Dead Serious CD (1992)
All Of The Above CD music
$8.39 Das EFX -- part of EPMD's Def Squad crew, which also included K-Solo and Redman, among others -- made such a wide breakthrough in 1992 with their debut album that their hit "They Want EFX" was even referenced in the lily-white teen serial Beverly Hills 90210. That Dead Serious could have that sort of broad impact and still retain its credibility within the underground hip-hop community says something about its appeal, which was considerable. But the album wasn't just appealing; it was also enormously influential, ushering in an entirely unique rhyming flow that influenced any number of rappers, established and novice alike. What exactly the duo is rapping about is anyone's guess. One thing is for sure: their lyrics are about as far ...

All Of The Above CD music
$11.49 DanHolmesGroup is one of the Midwest's most sought after bands. With a keyboard-sax-drum-bass set up, this four piece group puts on a show all ages can enjoy. Their original music is a little bit of New Orleans mixed with some funk rock as told by a singer/songwriter.WHAT IS DanHolmesGroup ABOUT?When Dan formed DanHolmesGroup, he sought out only the best musicians. He pulled together the talents of the legendary Steve Brunner on drums, Big Bill Ritter on bass, Karl "the Mouth" Leichty on sax, and Dan himself is on keys. They are not your typical act. They customize each show to each venue they play. If you go to see them at a rock club, you'll hear a rock show. Or if you see them in a blues club, you'll hear a blues show. They are very comfortable performing as a duo, trio, or quartet. You'll have to go to a lot of shows to get the full effect of this versatile act!WHO IS DAN HOLMES?Dan Holmes became an active part in Indianapolis' music scene in 1994. Playing every chance he could, he quickly became a fill-in keyboard player for many different bands. Within the past few years, he played all over the Midwest with ...
