Beethoven: Symphony No 9 / Koussevitsky, Et Al
$13.15 2009 sixth album from Finlands masterful progressive power metal band. 12 tracks
Personnel: Tony Kakko (vocals, keyboards); Johanna Kurkela (vocals); Elias Viljanen, Elias Viljanen (guitar); Henrik Klingenberg (keyboards); Tommy Portimo (drums). Audio Mixer: Mikko Karmila. Recording information: Fantom Studios; Great Sounds Studio; Kakkos Studio; Lanceland 2; Magic 7-Studios; RockValley-Studios, Finland; Studio 57; Tico Tico Studio. Illustrators: Gina Pitkänen; Janne Pitkänen. Photographer: Toni Härkönen. Arrangers: Sonata Arctica; Tony Kakko. Having announced their "boredom" with the likeable but at times all-too-predictable power metal peddled on their first four albums, Finland's Sonata Arctica brought a notably heavier sound and darker outlook to bear on their fifth opus, Unia, which understandably didn't sit well with many fans, but certainly helped their metal credibility as a band willing to take chances. So, for their sixth studio album (discounting numerous EPs and a few live recordings along the way), The Days of Grays, the Fins decided to keep things interesting by shifting direction yet again -- but this time they reigned in some of their progressive elements and focused their revived melodic tendencies underneath lyrics devoted either to doomed romance ("Juliet," "No Dream Can Heal a Broken Heart") or bouts of clinical depression (see "The Last Amazing Grays," the claustrophobic "Zeroes," and "The Truth Is Out There," which explores psychology as alien abduction). The romantic tracks often boast a mass appeal on par with Sonata's most successful countrymen, Nightwish, but by doing so naturally sacrifice almost every last metallic vestige and will likely further traumatize the band's older fans who still pine for the days when high speed power metal and fanciful fantasies dominated the band's songwriting. As it stands, The Days of Grays offers but two obvious opportunities for those fans to saddle their steeds and don their invisibili

Beethoven: Symphony No 9 / Koussevitsky, Et Al
$13.15 Steve is classically trained and completed his Master's degree at Potsdam, NY. As a student, his Fanfares For Brass were performed at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Steve later studied privately under the internationally recognized composer, Luigi Zaninelli."Autumn Wonders" is a compilation of 14 pieces composed for piano. Elements of classicism, romanticism and popular music are combined into an accessible style, providing one with a memorable experience. Melodic expression, light linear texture and clarity of sound are the hallmarks of this recording. Steering clear from the repetitive nature of much of the 'New Age' music, Steve chose instead to present an album based on classical structure, with romantic undertones. Instead of being merely mood enhancing, it transports the listener to a higher plane. The music of Steve Misiaszek is often said to be inspiring, healing and uplifting. It is being used in film clips, chiropractors' offices, homeopathy and massage spa treatment centers. It is also being used during yoga and expressive dance, and as background music in romantic settings, weddings and in childbirth. Steve stated the following about "Autumn Wonders":Since I believe music should be positively functional, it is my sincere expectation that the music presented on this recording will enrich and enhance your life. Its purpose is rejuvenating, restorative; a soothing balm to the soul. It is open, honest, honed to its essence without sacrificing artistic integrity. Each composition has its own descriptive character, as implied in each title. Although it is my intent for the music to stand alone, mental images can easily be evoked when associating each piece with its corresponding title. Perhaps an eagle sweeping the skies can be pictured in 'Soar,' or you may envision ocean waves rolling in and crashing against the cliffs in 'The Lighthouse.' 'The Music Box' captures the enchantment in the eyes of a child as she gazes at the twirling ballerina. The stationary sound of 'Waterlilies' culls an image of someone resting at a tranquil pond, observing, listening, absorbing the subtle nuances of sound and motion.Whatever images may come to mind; whatever emotions are evoked, you will find this music relaxing, soothing and restorative. So leave this hectic world behind and embark on an absorbing musical journey…
