an outstanding legal story Verdict video Paul Newman plays a down on his luck lawyer who just can't get a break. He is given a case against a hospital owned by the catholic church. It is a wrongful case in which a young woman was put in a coma due to neglect of the doctors. He goes against James Mason and his team of lawyers. Along the way he has many set backs but in the end juctice wins. This story is excellent and the truth of what really happened is frightening-it could happen to anyone. The cast is great and Charolette Rampling--well you will just have to see for yourself. Paul Newman is excellent. A brillant movie with brillant performances. Newman & Mason at their best! One of my two favorite Newman films; the other being Absence of Malice. Paul seems totally comfortable with his role, as if he were born to play it. James Mason's suave, cool and controlled evil is the perfect foil to Newman's desperation as his hopes for winning the case dwindle. You wont regret seeing this film. Among Newman's Best Excellent portrayal by Newman as a down and out, alcoholic, and vulnerable lawyer. Equally fine performance by Mason in a supporting role as the attorney for the defense.
